I was in my local scrap booking store and I saw this idea. If you don't have one of those great Stampin' Up tool kits with the metal template then this could be a very cheap substitute (for the template) . . . until you get one, of course . . .
They were selling plastic canvas in strips for easy placement of brads and eyelets (for $3.00!). I went home and cut a strip off of a piece I had and it works like a charm. Now obviously this isn't as cool as the metal template but it works in a pinch! For scrapbookers, you could just use a whole sheet.
Neat trick! ;)

Great idea, gigs! I bet I have a sheet of that stuff laying around here somewhere! I think I'll cut it up and give a 5 and a half inch by 4 and a forth inch piece to everyone in my card club this week! Thanks for sharing this with us.
Great idea! For the mini brads/eyelets - you could use ther smaller (10 to 14 count) plastic canvas. Nice idea someone had to do straight line punches for the eyelets. Thanks for sharing.
Great Thinking! Isnt it amazing what the brain can do when engaged! I have some plastic canvas that I was going to put in for a rummage sale! Now, I'll cut it up and share with my stamping friends! Thanks!

Place the canvas on top of the paper making sure that the paper is centered underneath it. Then count how many squares in and marked it with a pencil and do the same for the other side. No rulers ~ unless of course you need them in an exact place. Then you would be able to see precisely where to punch the holes to place your brads or eyelets. HTH.

Reason: clarification
I've never done needlepoint so have no plastic canvas--but couldn't a person use MagicMesh for the same purpose?
On the front of a bag of taters you usually find a 'window' covered in mesh. I removed the mesh from the bag when I emptied it yesterday. Now I know what to do with it.

That is cool! Anything and everything that makes life easier. I guess if it has a grid it would work. I'm always amazed what people come up with when they think out side the box. The sky's the limit!

I don't have a metal one, but I do have plastic canvas and I am going to do just that! I really appreciate this web site and all the cool tips we get on it.
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post your idea! I am going to use it!
