Good Morning Ladies--Happy Hump Day! I spent a good portion of the day yesterday in the stamp room and completed a swap along with some other cards--Yay for Me! Today is "cut the grass" day as it is supposed to rain all day tomorrow. I also have hostess club tomorrow, taking Skokie to his next "home away from home", packing along with picking up Rebecca's sister, who is staying overnight tomorrow night as she is also flying out with me Friday morning and staying with a cousin in Denver during the 9 days we are in Colorado. Busy couple of days for sure!

I agree, Barb... no more canning after today! We will still have enough to eat fresh, though. YAY!

Morning!

Jeanette, your annual tomato canning always impresses me. Bet you're glad it's over!

Waving, can't stay here long, lots to do at work. Like Maggie's sig line: working interferes with my personal life. Yep.

Glorious spring day here and I have worked outside for 3 1/2 hours this morning - helped my 'lawn man' prune the feijoa trees, and he dug the raspberry canes up for my brother to pick up this afternoon - I then did some other pruning, gardening and tidying around that area then pruned the crab apple tree - so hard it may die, but if it does I won't weep as it is triffid like in it's growth and when it is late dropping the leaves it shades the washing line... now my hands are swearing at me :-(

Hope you are all enjoying as beautiful a day as I am - waving to you all from down under

Hello my friends. Maxine, how great that you were able to get outdoors and accomplish so much! I feel for your hands though. I have the same issue after yard work. Not fun.

Waving hello to all of you and wishing you a great day today.

Good Morning--this will be my last check in from home.................. We are having storms roll through and I am glad I got my Skokie walk in between rounds at 6:00. I am pretty much packed and ready to go. I think I am all caught up on the cards that need to be completed by the 13th--I Hope!

Morning friends. Any plans for the weekend? We are to have crummy weather today and Saturday so it sounds like laundry and cardmaking to me. Ah, darn LOL

I want to keep going on being caught up with my SCS deadlines. Makes me feel like I'm getting back in the saddle...more control over my life, I dont know how to describe it. But there it is. ;)

Waving to all! Friends, we are heading out for a long weekend in the Keys - and I won't be back online until Monday.

The boys will be fishing and doing guy stuff - we plan to canoe, sight see, bird watch, and RELAX! No cooking, unwinding and unplugging!

I wish you a great couple of days!

Hugs!

Good Morning from Colorado--and it is still morning here. I am sitting by a window, gazing at the Continental Divide of the Rockies and loving the view! There is a haze from the wildfires, but the sunrise this morning was stunning! We pick the ladies up off the trail tomorrow around noon and I am sure there will be some great stories. We received a text from them this morning and they got caught in rain a few times and even a hailstorm one afternoon. We heard on the news last night that there was to be some snow, yes snow, on the mountain tops overnight. I did not see any this morning, but maybe our backpackers did. I am sure they will appreciate the cooler or beverages and treats we are taking to the trail head tomorrow and the cookout we have planned for tomorrow night!

Good Evening Fellow Stamp Addicts!

I know I don't usually get on SCS on Sundays, but I forgot to mention that I am leaving on Monday (tomorrow morning) and will be gone until the middle of next week. I'll see you when I get back.

Good Morning Ladies. The hikers were picked up yesterday and had a fantastic time. We are hanging out here today, and will head to Estes Park tomorrow and stay in Boulder tomorrow night. Then, on Wednesday we are going to Denver to have brunch with a couple from our church who moved here a year ago and supper with Rebecca's cousins. We will drive back up here to the mountains on Thursday and stay until Saturday. Friday night we are going to see Mama Mia at the Rocky Mountain Rep in Grand Lake. This is the third year in a row we have included a musical/play there and they have always been great! I hope you have a great start to the new week.

We are home! 2 days of sun, surf, sunburn!!! It was sooooooooo hot!! triple digits at one point in the day and my boys were out fishing - whew! We moved to the pool and cabana right quick  It was nice to unplug and unwind - and tune the world out Now I'm rested but 10 pounds heavier!!!:razz:

And we leave the 15th for vacation - staying at a resort in orlando with my husband's conference. They encourage you to bring family - fully paid resort and water park, food, gas ... you don't have to twist my arm! LOL! My dd's taking her very late graduation trip and we're going to a theme park of her choice and I'm also meeting an online friend who just moved to Orlando - I'm so excited to meet her!

The bad part is the night we get home, school starts the next day! MEH! School starts August 21st here - yuck! So. not. ready.

Waving to all!

Default Hi!

Hello to all!

We are enjoying beautiful weather here! We are also still watching our caterpillar....the big one- we think got eaten. It is amazing to see how many of these poor caterpillars do not make it... I can see why Maggie had a hutch last year! We saw a Monarch lay eggs on a plant, and watched and saw 5 small caterpillars, so hubby moved the plant indoors- it got to looking pretty bad, so he reworked the soil- he thought it was too wet, but discovered the roots were pretty dry. It looks better already. We are only seeing one of the 5 caterpillars- still really small, so will see what happen. There is another outside we will keep watch on, and maybe bring it in when it gets bigger as well.

The wedding was really fun- the bride and groom were so young! 21! And, the trip to Galena was awesome. We came home and went out to the Morton Arboretum Sunday- biked one side and walked the other. It was beautiful out, and there was an interesting Asian festival going on. We stopped and got Chinese after that, and when we got home I headed to the craft 'cave' and made a couple of cards. I also stamped almost all day Monday! Yahoo!!!

I cleaned and did laundry today, then went and picked up mom- with a side trip to my cousins place. Now, dropping in to say hello and to get some cards uploaded.

Ahhhh- missed Jeanette- safe travels.....

Barb- I hope you are having great weather- know it is a but milder there, but sounds like you will be on the go : )

Kelly- how wonderful to unplug- and is that easy for you to relax when your schedule is so hectic? And, Orlando with hubby sounds amazing too. Will you have one less to drive this fall?

Maxine- how did 50th party go? I have been keeping you in prayers still. You really do like to work in the yard! I do not know Feijoa trees- and raspberry canes- what do you do with them?

Darlene- sounds like you had a fun time in your craft room this weekend as well- hope you got lots done!

Waving Hello to all!

Shelly

Checking in and waving hi. All is still rocking along ok around here. Hot - and Hot - and Hotter! That's summer though so we just have to deal with it. We'll start cooling down maybe by November.
Staying busy but I did manage to get 50 bookmarks made over the last 5 months for my daughter's school. It really doesn't take that long to make one at all but thinking of different designs is a little tricky at times - and then of course, squeezing in time to do them too.

Hello all! It's hot here, too - way too hot! I am starting to rethink heading to a theme park in this crazy hot weather - and hopefully any/all hurricanes stay far away in the time we're going to be up the coast.

Good to see you, Lynn!

Hi girls - we are all girls at heart aren't we, even if the bodies protest!!

Life here has been a roller coaster this week, but not as bad as last week... the weather is still up and down - wet and cold one moment - warm and sunny the next!!

The 50th went well - not as stressful as I thought it may be - a few long hugs and quiet words that were a bit 'almost teary' moments, but overall good. Had a detour on the way home as there had been an accident and the road was closed - thankfully it was near enough that I knew where I was going and didn't get disorientated.

Great to see you pop in Lynn, and to see you blog again too :-)

Darlene I love to see you here too, albeit briefly

Jeanette and Barb are off galavanting - again, and Shelly has had a very busy but wonderful Mom Break, and is all refreshed (or exhausted, maybe) and is back on duty, in the best way possible.

Kelly sounds as though she could do with some of my cool, and I could easily swap for some warm - please don't fry in those theme parks Kelly.

Waving at Kel and Kristie and the rest of you from Down Under

Sweet Maxine - you are doing great!! I love that you are crafting crafting crafting - does keep the mind occupied in spite of ups and downs. At least that's what I tell myself.

Waving to everyone!

We did visit a small paper craft shop over the weekend, but I was careful not to buy much as I want my dollars for later in the month. :-) You know what they say about the grass being greener ...

Had the stitches out from my face this afternoon, and it is more comfortable now. The nurse seems to think it looks good........ will wait and see one the steri strips come off.

Your yard sounds as though it is a lot of work Maggie - mine is a mess at the moment, but we have had some severe frosts these past few mornings (-5 oC) and all is icy - the roses have yet to be pruned, and I must do that before I go away, if nothing else!

Sounds like a wonderful show to go to Maggie!

Barb you really are an energiser bunny - or just like Kelly on coffee ;-)

Kelly I hope all is well with you, and the driving is not so tedious this coming semester.

Darlene I hope the muse visited you and you got something done :-)

Great to see you got back safely Jeanette, and had a good time whilst away!

Shelly I hope you can craft while caring for you Mum - it must be so difficult at times, and other time so rewarding!

Waving to you all from down under - or is that just me holding up my shivering hand???
Oh, I am so envious about your trip to Australia, Maxine. I would love to go there someday.

My yard really isn't much to take care of. Just mowing and weeding a few flower beds, trimming a few bushes now and then, but when it doesn't get done for awhile, then it takes that much longer to do it.

I have a landscape company coming on Friday to talk about doing something with my yard. I don't want anything fancy, just fix up the flower beds and keep them neat and weeded. We'll see what they have to offer.

Maggie- the DNA section sounds especially exciting! I have had both of my parents submit a sample, and over 10 years, Dad has zero 0 or 1 matches...... all surnames are different than his- and varied too. Mom has zillion of matches, many very close.....
Good you are getting in a bit of time in your yard!
As far as our caterpillars, we started with three, just saw one earlier in the week- it got really big and now gone- Ray thinks went to find a place to make a chrysalis. I saw another about an inch or so long yesterday AM, it is gone today : ( Next time, we are going to bring a plant in the house and let it form the chrysalis inside to keep it safe. We do have a wren house full of chirping babies, and they feed the babies bugs (although I hear caterpillars do not taste good).

Jeanette- welcome back! I am sure your trip went well- and was very worthwhile too!

Kelly- hoping you enjoyed your day at the beach! I saw a pic somewhere- your feet & legs sunning : )

Darlene- hope the creative bug got a bite out of you ...hehehe I can only imagine growing up where there were fields and fields of bulbs like daffodils- that had to be magnificent!

Love the tent card- might have to give that a go!

Barb- your trip to Colorado sounds fabulous! And, sounds like our visits- Chris is our guide, he climbs and has his own Raft and of course, a mountain bike as well. I am jealous : )

Mom is doing well, she has kept me busy this week! We went to painting, which is a challenge for her. The place where my sis used to work has a grant with an Art therapist, so I drove up to my sis' Wednesday night, and we went for an Art Therapy session- it was pretty cool. All of the paint is dabbed on by the therapist, and she tells the client what to do- brush it across, dab it, etc.... Mom's painting came out well.

We were supposed to stop by my Aunts on the way up, she just moved into assisted living- she said don't come and caused a huge amount of drama...so we decided after the afternoon visit with my sis to stop there unannounced. Thankfully, it went very well...but...we did not get back until almost 9PM, mom was exhausted! Friday, I spent a bit of time creating- ahhhh- that was heavenly! Yesterday, took mom to a AAA baseball game (the team close to here is Arizona's AAA team) with fireworks after the game. It was organized by the nurses where I used to work, so I did not pay too much attention to the game...
Today, ran to my younger sis' house- she is moving into a new rental, just 1/2 block from where she used to live. It is only a 9 mos lease...so she will have to move again, but a much better situation for her family space wise and all.

Mom will go to my older sis' again this weekend- we have a wedding Friday and a gathering about 3 hours from here in Galena Ill on Saturday. Our close friends from college will be in town and have organized a party. It is a beautiful area- I am looking forward to it and seeing our friends as well.

Waving hello to all!
Shelly
Glad that you and your mom are able to get out and do some fun things together.

It is strange that one family has no interest in their DNA and finding out who their ancestors/relatives might be and the other one does. That's the way it is though. I don't know where you did the DNA but if you upload the DNA raw data (it will be public) on GEDMatch, you may get a lot more hits with it since GEDMatch collects DNA results from all the major sites that have that service.

I finally saw my first Monarch butterfly today for this season. I did notice the other day that at least one had come and laid a baby because one of the Milkweed stalks was stripped of its leaves so a caterpillar had been eating on it, but I couldn't find the caterpillar anywhere. Maybe a wasp got it. I saw the one today flying around some of the other stalks so I may get some more babies to come, but still don't have time to deal with them.

And we leave the 15th for vacation - staying at a resort in orlando with my husband's conference.

Hope you have fun at the resort. Sounds great to have an all expense paid vacation. I guess no one is ready to go back to school. Even me. The traffic is twice as heavy during the school year. I love it when the kids are off and the traffic is light.

Shelly
Good luck with the indoor cattys. I had 2 inside last year, but I had them in net containers so they couldn't go anywhere. Like a small hutch. They are very sneaky sometimes. First you see them, then you don't. Can't wait to hear how they do.

Hahaha! That's funny that you see an Asian festival and have to go have Chinese food. Power of suggestion!

I can't believe how long it has been since I've popped on here. Life gets busy and I lose track of time trying to get all the class reports done on time.

I am thankfully finishing up my course. I turned in one paper yesterday and hope to finish up this Repository Visit Report today and get it turned in. Our new Module starts on Tuesday and I have no idea what it will be about. Nothing is posted yet on the website. I did have some interesting events happen this past week. Turned out that I am related to the subject of our Photographic Report. I think he is my 13th great grandfather 8 times removed or something like that. What a surprise and shock to find that out. Then I was chatting with one of the other students about some people on her line and found out that I'm related to them also! Such a small world. I was checking out my Ancestry DNA matches and saw that I was closely related to someone on there and messaged the lady that posted the little tree and found out that her ancestor was married to the son of one of my great aunts. Got the phone number of the lady's mother and was able to chat with her last week for a little bit. It's wild how all these names are showing up.

Still waiting to hear whether or not my next class is going forward, but it looks like it will. I talked to one of the ladies last week and even though the cut off date is August 22, they are pretty sure that they will have a class. I dbaon't think it's going to be quite as intense as this one, at least not yet.

The kids came over for dinner last night. We decided to have dinner at my house on Saturday for the coming school year since my sil has to work on Sundays. This way he will be able to come also. He hasn't been to a family dinner at my house for a year. My DD and SIL and I really liked what I made. I had an Asian salad with cabbage with an Asian Ginger dressing. They're not that keen on cole slaw type salads. It turned out pretty good though. It also had Quinoa in it. I also made a dish with rice (brown and wild) with black beans and some dried cranberries. It also had some ginger in it. I think it was the ginger bite that they didn't like. No problem, the rest of us liked it all. I was making lettuce wraps, but the lettuce I got the leaves were too small to wrap. Lucky for us that I had some pita bread and tortillas in the freezer so we were able to use them. I did my shopping with Instacart on Friday because I knew I wouldn't have time to shop myself and get the house ready. If I had realized that the leaves were too small, I would have chosen a different kind like Romaine. Dessert turned out great. I made a chocolate cake with the secret ingredient of avocado in it. So yummy. You can't taste the avocado, but it does make it super moist. Instead of doing a made from scratch drizzle, I used 1/2 can of prepared frosting mixed with enough soy milk to think it out and drizzle it over the cake. Worked like a charm.

Default Hi!

Hi ladies! The weeks just fly by! It was a long week- Mom has bronchitis again..... (every 2 months like clockwork). My daughter Katie came home last night, to visit- but actually to be a care companion so we could go out.... We told Mom at dinner that friends invited us to a little festival to listen to a band and catch up. She decided not to join us- we were going to be outside and it was going to be a late night.

Caterpillar update- Ray took the plant outside for some sun and a wasp flew up and ate one of them.....ahhhhhhhhh- that is a scream! So the plant is back in the house, and we are seeing two caterpillars that are bigger and a baby one now .... The largest is about an inch, the smallest, about a cm.

Hmmm Maggie, I did not check GedMatch- will have to look into that. Even though fast moving, your class sounds very interesting, and you are making some fun discoveries! Your dinner sounds interesting! I love an Asian salad : ) And the cake- could you taste avocado at all knowing it is in there?

Maxine be safe in the frost and cold! I see on IG that you have been busy in your craftroom!

Barb will be back in town tomorrow- safe travels! Jeanette, the other world traveler will be back mid week I think. Hope the trip has some element of fun and not all work......all work and no play and all..... : )

Kelly- a couple of days until your fun family trip! Did you get out in the hot, hot, hot weather to the theme park?

Waving hi to Darlene and Lynn!

And hi to Kel and Kristi as well- and hope I did not miss anyone.

Shelly

Hi Shelly - it's not so much the frost now as the wet!!!

I finally managed to get my roses pruned yesterday afternoon, which meant no crafting, but hopefully tomorrow afternoon as the days are showery now for the rest of the week, and then rain on Friday - so glad I will be flying away from it :-). The week is frantically busy with two or more things on most days until I go - at least I got the house cleaned today, so that will do until I am back.

Waving to you all - I had better go and do my dishes and get an early night - I read until 1:00a.m. this morning - the book was The Forgotten Seamstress by Liz Trenow - an intriguing read.
