Default My new addiction is Washi tape

I finally broke down and treated myself to some Washi tape to see what its all about. I used a Hobby Lobby coupon. OMG!! I love it. I didn't want to love it. I didn't want to NEED it. I didnt want to Google for more.

Its too late.

It adds a very nice touch and is so easy to use.

So please post pics! And anyone else who has seen a particularly awesome use of washi, because I kind of don't get it. But I don't use ribbon a lot either.

Bonnie, I'm in the same boat!!! Someone I know on a different forum showed how she used it in an art journal, and now I have way to many rolls. I'm mostly using in my smash books to tape down items I want to add.

I love washi/tissue tape, too.

I buy some ready-made but I also love to make my own using tissue paper and double-sided tape because I can make it custom to match any project that I'm working on and it provides me with yet another opportunity to stamp and play around with my inks and color sprays.

So if you enjoy stamping and playing around with ink/paint/mists, I'd encourage you to give making your own a shot. I think I first saw the tutorial re: how to do this from Julie Ebersole.

Just what is Washi Tape? I'm so behind the times.

Washi tape is similar to masking tape. Thinner, and colored like patterned paper. Easy to use, and obviously addictive to a crafter. ;)

Just to be even more of an enabler...:-)

Here are a few cards from the gallery here on SCS that I think use washi tape really well.

Forever and Always by ~Fee~ - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
Milestone Markers by tayloredexpressions - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
Home Sweet Home by mom2n2 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
Hugs, Hugs, Hugs by khowardga - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

And here is an Etsy shop that sells it in various quantities: Colorful Washi Tape Masking Tape and lots of sticky by StickerStop
I have no affiliation with this shop whatsoever...I think I picked up the link from the fabulous and talented Julie Ebersole's blog: Paper Trufflez

I think Julie's blog is where I got my first glimpse of it in action. I've bought a few rolls so far at Michael's with coupons. But I still have some Christmas money left and might be placing an order at the Etsy shop I mentioned soon!!

Oh man how I love washi tape! I have way too much and keep buying more. I like to buy them from my favorite Etsy store because she sells Petite Rolls in 5 ft lengths and I never can or would use an entire roll of 25 ft!

If you can find it, I am excited to have a couple cards in the current spring Paper Creations issue using washi tape!!

Other than Michael's, Joann's or Hobby Lobby (which aren't within 50 miles of where I live), where can you buy washi tape? We have a Walmart here, but I try to avoid that place unless I absolutely have to go there, so I haven't stopped in to check.

So.... what's the advantage to using Washi tape over simply cutting patterned paper scraps or using ribbon? I'm not being difficult, just trying to understand.

Thanks.

I have the same question...it's pretty, but I'd never use an entire roll.

I too don't understand about Washi tape but see it everywhere plus it is appearing as part of Scrapbooking collections with the matching designer papers, brads, rhinestones and ribbons. Someone gave me a few rolls but I have no idea what to do with them

This stuff is just plain fun. Besides cards and pages, I use it for gift wrap, or in place of painters tape when I don't want a real sticky tape and the kicker is using pieces to hold hearing aid battery in place when a hinge broke! There are thousands of uses for this. I am hooked!

You can make really cute twist ties for goodie bags by placing some thin gauge wire in the middle, and then folding the tape in half. I like to use it to seal cellophane bags with pretty cookies inside.

Glad I saw this thread. I used some washi tape at an SEI class at a convention; it's a gorgeous page but I have no idea what else to do with it!

I don't "get" it either - but it was one of the DTGD challenges last year and there were some lovely cards. Here's the gallery for that: DTGD12BevMom

It was also today's TLC challenge, though I haven't had time to either make anything or even look at the gallery. It's here:TLC417
