Spread the word through social media about Operation write Home. There are lots of deployed service men and women, we just need to get them signed up!!
I tried to join the Ronald McDonald House swap but it keeps telling me that I don't have permission so I guess that's not an option after all. Sad!

For anyone searching this post today, Operation Write Home has "closed its doors" as of Aug 1, 2015 and is no longer taking donations.

Sorry ladies - OWH is no longer accepting cards. This is from their website.
From now until August 1st, 2015, the final stage of cardmaking is on! OWH will continue to accept cards through this period.

To the credit of card makers....Sandy actually got so much that in this week she had asked people to reroute and not send her more. So kudos to all the card makers! You really DID finish strong!

There are so many kids sports teams or rescues in my area that I know would love card donations to sell and make money. I wish I could help them all but I am at my limit of people to donate my cards too! Im happy people like them so I can keep making them.

It looks like From Our Hearts has also closed up as of 09/08/15.

We Are Officially Closed for Business
Our sincere thanks to all who have helped our cause - and to the few who have continued to mail donations to us - the last box of cards will be mailed out today (there were just a few!)
We are no longer accepting donations and will return any boxes we receive in the future.
Again, our thanks to the thousands of you who have supported us over the past 7 years!

Yes, you can send cards. If you sign up to get emails, they will send you a list of kids who have birthdays each month.
I've been sending kids cards for awhile now, I was surprised a couple of times with notes that the kids sent back to me! Most often they don't reply and that's fine, I never expect any.

Sometimes stamp companies have card drives for certain causes. Going on right now until October 31st, Fun Stampers Journey is having a card drive for Breast Cancer Awareness month. They are accepting cards with inspirational or encouragement themes. It's called the Be Brave: Create Hope card drive. Not necessarily with pink or cancer sentiments. These cards will go to caregivers as well as women battling cancer. Info below.

The 6th Annual Caring Hearts Card Drive is going on now. Participants make Christmas cards to send to residents in nursing homes. You need to have a message in each card you submit, either stamped or handwritten/typed, and sign your name and where you're from. I've done it the past 2 years, and it's lots of fun. Deadline for cards to be received is 27 November. You can find out all the details below:

Hello,
I work for an organization in WI. That helps seniors. We would love donations of cards, if you still have some.

You may want to be a card angel. I did this for about a year. They match you with someone who has cancer and you agree to send your person at least one card per month. I googled them a few months ago and they are still in operation.
Just google Card Angels.

I don't want to highjack someone's thread but right now we are listing worthy causes, yes?
I donate to Project Hello. HELLO stands for Helping Everyone Locate Loved Ones. It allows homeless people the opportunity to choose a hand-made card so they can mail a letter to loved ones. Volunteers will use social media to track down families to ensure letters can be delivered if addresses are not complete. This is a Canadian project that is mostly run by high school students but it could certainly be duplicated in other cities.

In case someone doesn't know about it already, there's a section of this forum called Cards 4 a Cause where you can see a number of organizations to whom you can donate cards. If you like challenges, a new one is posted each month but there's also a list of ongoing - meaning they accept cards year-round.
If you have an organization you would like added to the list, you can contact Teresa Kline (va.sunshine) who organizes/runs this effort... It's pretty awesome
