I can't predict but I know what I would LIKE to see. I would like to see all people with heads, noses and mouths. I would like to see more realistic images of women's bodies instead of the impossibly skinny ones you see most places. Being of a certain age, I would love to see more 50's and 60's kitcsch/nostalgia -metal rollerskates and skate keys, coasterwagons, bicycles, transistor radios, rotary phones, TVs with dials and knobs and no remote. Ok. You get the idea - she says with a sheepish grin...
I hope the sheet music stays a while longer ......... and am I the only person in the world who does not like the banners?
It's not so much that I don't like them (cause I've seen some gorgeous examples), it's just that they are *not* my style!;)
And cupcakes! Oy!
I guess I just don't like 'cute' very much!

That is a much better way to put it, ;) Just not my "style" and I agree that I have seen some great examples!
However, I do like cupcakes for birthday cards as long as they don't have a face!
I think we're going to see a lot more rubber stamps that you can color in with your copics, or zentangle. Also more stamps that encourage you to make your own background papers. And that makes me smile, because when I first started out stamping a lot of the stamps at chain stores were wood mounted with colorful graphics. We would scratch our heads, trying to figure out how to color that cute mouse or whatever. Now that we have the creative tools, copics, water color pencils, etc, I think that kind of stamp will come roaring back. I hope so!

No, I'm not liking banners too much, either. Other than a special holiday or birthday, where in my house can I display something that fragile (and sometimes pretty expensive)? Between the wood smoke and the dogs, the banner would be ruined within a week, and I'm just not seeing any reason for more do-nothing stuff to hang on already cluttered walls. I don't want to use up my supplies or my budget crafting something that pretty much does nothing. At least a card, you can mail it to someone, and if it's lush and lovely then it's a nice gift. But I'm not at all enthusiastic about the paper-craft home decorating thing. It's PAPER.
Close to my Heart has a nice clear stamp set in their new catalog. It's called "Retro Tech", $18.95 page 74. It's got a coin operated wall telephone, a regular desk telephone, a photograph and phonograph record, a typewriter, a television with rabbit ears and an instamatic camera. It's pretty nice. Very '60s. Oh, and three phrases- "moments to live for", "happy days" and "picture perfect". The font is very retro.

I think we'll see a lot more vintage for a couple of years with more telephones, typewriters and bicycles - although I see the bicycles as being more of a Steampunk item, myself. Steampunk - I'm not so sure- it's tried to rise up a few times over the years. I find it gets a bit 'tired' after a while.
I think the colors hues this year will be welcoming and inviting saying 'use us all together'. No more in your face colors and no more washed out ones either. Just lots of colors with depth and dimension lending themselves to a lot of layering - I can see it now - yellows and browns mixed with pinks and greens; blues and bricks, melons and roses underlined with warm neutrals with just a touch of a very special shade of purple - all sponged to perfection.
Speaking of layering - I see lots more in the future - metal, ribbon, pins, pearls, distressed papers, fabrics, buttons, pockets and flaps,...lots of layering.
I see 2011 as a year in which we'll see a coming together of styles, a more well-rounded look - more put together while being very individual. I think we're ready for less 'cutesy' and more 'wow - this is really me - finally someone's put into products and styles what's been in my head and heart'.

I love the steampunk trend. I would like to see hot air balloons. I have only one image of that. Also, I am enjoying the bird cages.
Colors, I think Grey is the big neutral and I think you will see some soft pastels for spring...butter, lavendar, sky blue and the new honeysuckle, a soft teal and maybe some citron green.
I would love more owls, I can do w/out too much purple. I like eggplant though.
CHA will be the tell all. I think florals are in this year too.
My husband is a cyclist. I have had such a hard time finding cycling things for his sb pages. I am hoping for much road bike things, too.
I just discovered a cling set from Hero Arts that includes a road bicycle! But the rest of the images are other types of vintage bicycles - not road bicycle accessories. :( I have two road bicycles already, from two different companies. It's all I can do not to buy the Hero Arts set right. now.
This is going to sound odd, maybe, but I think inanimate objects are going to get even hotter--decor objects especially. This iheartart card says it all for me: Wedding Wishes � (gorgeous jars). But I suppose that category that encompasses the typewriter, bike, balloon... etc thing. Kind of a safe answer, i guess. But also cities, houses, and trees.
From the looks of the HA catalogue, the retro silhouette seems to be gaining popularity (children playing) and of course the seated type of Victorian silhouettes. The custom one based on a child's photo from Elen Hutson is too cool! Custom Digital Silhouette Rendering, JPG

Sparkle and Sprinkle has great car images for men's cards. I would like to see women in cloche hats both full bodies and side face images. Hot air balloon sounds great. Steampunk jewelry id great on ETSY.com to get ideas. I have been making this type of jewelry for awhile. Great to read everyone's ideas.

The newly released Pantone color is a pink/orange thing that's not rockin' me at all. But, it's usually a good predictor of what the tones will be for the year. So, I guess I'm going with soft and warm. Sounds good, anyway.
I think vintage/victorian is out and 50's are in. I think it's an effort to embrace simpler times. I agree with banners still being big - at least I hope so since I just bought a banner die cut. ;)
I think the sewing theme will be big: pattern layouts, 50+60's style clothing (like when your mom made all your clothes)...
I also think doilies, that dyed wrinkled seam binding, and all colors of twine will be featured even more....I like all these things..
And I have also been searching for some more patterned DP in purple. I'm not a huge purple fan but wanted some just for variety and couldn't find what I was looking for in stores.

Since I posted a week ago I have thumbed through a dozen magazines and at least that many catalogs and websites. Here's a few more thoughts:
Several scrapbook co. have new amusement park lines. Stacation,anyone?
Animal prints are coming back.
Butterflies are still really hot but are evolving from whimsical (like SU! Butterfly Prints) to more realistic and detailed. More coloring.
Paper flowers are everywhere, on cards and pages and 3D projects. The bigger the better.
Teal is still popular even though is was "the color" for 2009.
The marriage of retro and vintage is everywhere. Creating Keepsakes had a big spread on it called "Prairie Chic" and OTC's new catalog had a line called "Homespun Chic."
Black and white seems to be "out."

I looked at this beautiful card and was broken-hearted to read that those jars are a rub-on. Rub-ons and I don't play well together.
I agree with the person who wanted better robots. Yes, robots!! I have a couple cute ones from the Doodle Factory, but they are lonely. I like the geek stuff, too.
This is how I know that I've been stamping a really long time!! Have always loved typewriters and "typewriter key" fonts. Have 3 old ones from about 20 years ago probably won't stop me from getting the new Hero Arts one!
Hoping the sewing trend will lead to some knitting and crocheting themed stamps. I have some but they are a bit hard to find.
I asked that same question about 2 years ago when I first ran across a reference to steampunk. Generally it is a style that combines victorian steam age mechanical components with more modern elements. You see a lot gears and cogs. Wikipedia has a good, albiet wordy, description. Also, a search on Google Images will give you many visual examples. I do a variant of steampunk using parts from computers. I made a Chirstmas wreath out of circut boards. It turned out so good I put it up at work every year. And I've made ornaments out of the platters and spindle rings from inside hard drives.
Would love to see some of your art. sounds interesting.
Hope purple is in. Companies other than SU carry it and I lobe to use dark and light shades together. Outdoor images are good for masculine cards, but I can't get into the techie stuff. More realistic and fewer "comic" images would be great. I love the clear colors better than the muted, muddy ones.
I'd love to see more bicycles and bicycle-related images. I'm a cyclist. I want to see real racing bicycles, not just beach cruisers. I want to see gears and chains and wheels and helmets and floor pumps and all of that. I want to see vintage schwinns, road bikes, track bikes, time trial bikes, high wheel bikes. I doubt that will be coming any time soon though. I liked owls long before they became trendy, so I won't mind if more owl stuff is available. I will like them long after the trend is done.
I want to see more science and tech-related images. I'm a geek, after all. I want to see better robots, too.
Related to that, Steampunk would be fun but I doubt it will ever go mainstream.
Oh, and bring on the purple! I was sad when I realized SU! ditched most of theirs. Deep, saturated hues are best.
Would LOVE to see all these bike images too!!! I am married to an elite cyclist and have used my one bike image many times!!!!!

I've been reading this thread and enjoying it. It's interesting to read all the predictions, wish lists, and the "enough already" comments, lol.
I SO agree with ditching the big headed, no nose or mouth images. They really are creepy. I've never liked such images...ever.
Too each their own is my motto. If you like that sort of thing, go for it. I'll pass. I prefer realistic images. I don't care for "cutsie" stamps. I have some. For reasons I don't remember, they appealed to me at the time...but they sit here unused.
If you go to my gallery, you'll see that I tend to stick to realistic images. I really enjoy coloring, so I usually prefer line art type stamps. As for copics, I'm with the people who don't like them. I don't own any, but have used them in classes and I don't like them at all...and didn't like anything I tried to color with them. I'm told it takes practice, which is true of most any coloring technique. For me tho, I have to "like" the thing in order to have any interest in practice...I simply don't like copics. I don't like the price of them either.
As for colors that will be the trend this year....it's interesting to see what will come out, but I seldom go for "trend". I tend to work with colors that appeal to me, or suit the image I'm using, the mood I'm looking for, or the sentiment involved in the project I'm working on.
I often don't care for what's "hot and now" for colors. I find it nearly impossible to get creative with colors that don't appeal to me, so I tend to avoid them. The hardest projects for me are the ones I do for others, using their color choices...when they choose colors I don't like. I really struggle with those, trying to come up with a nice design.
So...anyway...I thought I'd add my 2 cents worth in ideas while I'm at it.
Sheet Music: I love the look of it worked into cards, scrapbook pages, art journaling, etc. My library has an ongoing book sale in the basement. I am a regular visitor there. I love to read so I like to look for new reading material. But, I also am always on the lookout for card making fodder. I get music books cheap. I look for the books that have the smaller, neat looking pages. I don't like the ones that have big, chunky printed musical things. Often, they are for piano, but there are others. Because these things are considered "pamphlets" rather than books, they're only a dime each. If you want them to look old and worn, it's easy to do with some tearing and sponging, etc.
As I read this thread I saw that many of you are looking for line art for coloring, realistic, beach, light houses, trees, animals, ladies who don't look like super models, masculine....etc.
Checkout DoorCounty RubberStamps.com and North Woods. Lots of wonderful images to color. Lots of realistic images, light houses, beach, kids, animals, flowers, trees, ladies, masculine, etc.
Also, if I remember right, North Woods had a Noah's Ark stamp some years back. From year to year, North Woods puts out new stamps and stops making the previous stamps. But, any stamp they have ever made is always available to order.
I have tons of North Woods stamps. They do wonderful images for people like me who want realistic, wildlife, woodsy, floral, masculine, or what have you.
