I can't make up my mind over these ATG guns!! On one hand they look great and like I'd use one a lot, on the other hand they are really expensive!! What are your thoughts on them? Pros and cons? Is there a place that I can get a discount on them? Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I love my ATG and I am so glad that I picked it up a few years ago. I have being making alot of cards lately and having the ATG has saved me alot of money in tape. I can put together about 50 cards with 2-3 layers with one roll of ATG tape compared to about 10 cards with the tape snail. The price of the ATG tape is around $3 per roll (I live in Canada so I figured in the exchange and S&H cost) the cost of a snail refill is around $6. The ATG can be difficult to get used to at first but once you do it is great. I do still use the snail tape for really small areas and for some embellisments. If you know someone that has an ATG maybe see if you can try it and see what you think of it before buying. I bought my ATG from 7Kids college fund.
My ATG 714 was purchased online at Framing Supplies. I also purchase my refills there.
For cardmaking I use the 924 (1/4 inch x 36 yards) the average price is $2.50 each roll.
I often make cards for the Operation Write Home group and I've found it to be the best adhesive for me. It sticks really well, I've never had my cards come apart later. I can make 50 to 60 cards with one roll. Keep in mind, I use a lot of adhesive on each card, with several layers.
For scrapbooking I use the 908 (1/4 x 36 yards) the average price for those rolls at Framing Supplies is 3.50.
I generally purchase enough adhesive to last around 18 months so that I can justify the shipping charges. I factored in their rates along with the roll price, and it continues to be the least expensive place to purchase that I've discovered.
another vote for DEFINATELY YES....! I have had mine for just about 3 years now and would never part with it. It is the 714 and perfect for everything I do.

Another "Go for it!" vote. I invested in one 3 years ago and wouldn't go back to the expensive "snail" adhesives. When you consider that each roll of ATG adhesive has 36 yards (not feet - yards!) of adhesive for less than the cost of a little tape runner , it doesn't take long to pay for the ATG and save a ton of money in the long run.
I also say "BUY!" I held out for years, but I finally gave in last month. I bought an ATG from Amazon.com for $25 and refills for a little over $2 each. It's the same ATG as the 50, and both the tape and the gun are JVCC. The vendor was FindTape.com, who was selling through Amazon. I also got a great deal on refills from The Tape Depot on Ebay. So far, I'm loving it, and I originally hated the large yellow Scotch ATG I had tried years ago.
I am another Yes vote. I purchased mine two years ago and yes the initial cost is a little much but it saves so much in the long run. I love my gun and wouldn't trade it for any other adhesive. It is super strong tape too.
I just bought an ATG 50 + 12 rolls of tape. I bought it from the TapeDepot ebay store. The price was perfect. I loaded the adhesive first time - no problem. My question is - why did I wait so long? I love this thing!

The one thing I DON'T like is that there is no 'wiggle room' once you lay something down. I am AWFUL about things being crooked so I like that with glue I have a few seconds to make sure everything is lined up perfectly. If I had no problems with crookedness, then the ATG would be the perfect adhesive.

Amber, have you tried the JVCC brand of tape? I get the 1/4" acid-free rolls, and I can reposition once or twice before it's really down permanently. HTH.
I don't scrapbook, I only make cards and other papercrafting projects. I go through a ton of adhesive, and it's nice to have the ATG gun. It's very lightweight, but is a bit cumbersome for cardmaking. There is one that's a bit smaller, but now I can't think of what it's called. All in all, if you do a lot of papercrafting, in the long run it is more cost effective.
The gun that is smaller is the Glue Glider Pro by Glue Arts. Keep in mind though, the tape is twice the price and only 40 to 60 ft long (depending on the adhesive). I do like it, but I will probably end up upgrading to the ATG to save on tape.
Tip for "wiggle room": I slide my cricut spatula under the piece I have laid, and this breaks the bond enough for me to peel it back up with no damage.
Where do most people get their ATG's? I think I might buy myself one. I really like my Glue Glider Pro but the refills are pricey, even on sale. So I am thinking I might use my GGP for travel and an ATG for at home.
I LOVE my ATG gun! It is the cheapest way to go for adhesive for sure. I bought the adapter for the ATG 700 to convert back and forth between 1/4" and 1/2". At first I thought it would be a pain, but it is not to bad. I just store the unused portion of the roll of tape and start in with the different size. I use it for both card making and scrapping. Hope you enjoy it if you "go for it".

It is well worth the initial expense of the tape gun. It will soon pay for it's self in the savings on refills you would spend on regular adhesives. I've had mine for several years and have never regretted the purchase!

BUY IT. Absolutely BUY IT.
Well worth the cost. I got mine at framingsupplies.com; I know someone who got one at Tape Depot that apparently was a little less pricey, a slightly different shape. I didn't use it so I can't compare performance.
The adhesive refills are so cost effective -- and in my opinion it holds better and holds up longer than the SNAIL or Tombow multi-whatever it's called.

I lucked out while traveling through Utah and picked one up at Roberts craft with a 50% off coupon and the price was so low anyways. I think I paid less than $20 for it. I use a lot of adhesive---I think I overdo to make sure my cards arrive in one piece. I have saved a ton of money by buying this and don't worry about running out in the middle of a project. I have had great luck with Dick Blick for my tape. They sell the guns too. Where ever you purchase it you won't regret it.
Make sure there is tape at the roller, press a small embelishment on the the roller and look to check there is glue on the back. You can press the tape between the roller and the opening, and I just pull the trigger and use my finger to roll the used bit away so it's sticky once more..
works with buttons, flowers, tags, ribbon ends and more, I just sometimes have to fold in the tiny bits of glue that hang over the edges, just check before you press it down that the glue isn't hanging over.
It will save you money in the long run compared to buying refill after refill after refill at retail prices. if you are scrapbooker get it - it is a no brainer. it is a little harder to use for small areas and cards, but I still use it if I am making a lot of cards. for small projects I still use my mono or glu glider gun.

Can't imagine doing without it. I would also recommend the 3M tape. That's what I had first, then purchased some from The Tape Depot. The tape from Tape Depot doesn't stay flat; the outer part of the roll tends to roll outward like a cone, so it doesn't stay straight in your tape gun. I've never had this problem with 3M tape. There was even a message from Tape Depot with my order to lay the rolls flat, which supposedly would help the problem. I did, and it didn't help. 3M 714 gun and tape all the way!

I thoroughly agree with the 'yes' votes for the ATG. I prefer the 3M 714. Since I make mostly cards, I don't need to use 1/2" width tape. I had a generic one and gave it to a friend who loves it. It just didn't 'work' for me - I am right handed and the tape rode on the right side of the front roller. The generic ATG can also be used with the 1/2" tape, I think, so the front roller is wider. The body of the ATG block my view of the front roller so I couldn't get a good view of where the tape would lie.
When I first started, I used the small adhesive dispensers. Their refills are measured in feet and the ATG refills are measured in yards! I buy my ATG refills from The Tape Depot and haven't had a problem. The ATG refills only have the small plastic in the center of the rolls that gets thrown away not like all the plastic associated with the Glue Glider refills or to a lesser degree the plastic small adhesive refills.
I know the ATGs look cumbersome but they are designed not to be top heavy and are relatively easy to adjust to and use.
