refilling copic ciao markers

HI all,

Does anyone have any tips for refilling copic ciao markers. A couple of mine are going dry and would like to refill them.

I read on the copic marker website that there are 2 ways to do this:

1. apply the refill ink directly to the brush nib (anout 20-30 drops)

2. Use the booster needle and actually remove the brush nib and inject the needle into the well of the pen and refill.

What I was curious about is what is the better method to use...if anyone has any advice I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks

Both methods work the same, the only difference is that with the booster you will have less chances of making a mess...

As for a tip: When refilling take off both caps, this will equalize the internal pressure of the marker, and it will let you know if you added too much ink (it will start flowing out from the opposite side)...

I actually remove the CHISEL nib with my fingers (you can use a tweezer) and take note of how many cc's you are adding....for an empty ciao marker start by only filling one cc...best not to overfill.
This way is a bit quicker than the direct dripping on the nib as you don't have to wait for the ink to soak in....but is slightly messier than the booster needle method.
Don't wear new clothes and work over a protected surface....ask me how I know

I agree with Sherrie - the chisel nib is a bit more sturdy and can be pulled out very easily with your fingers (wear gloves if you don't want colorful fingers) LOL

I do the same as Sherrie and Colleen - pull out the chisel nib and drip directly into the barrel. I usually use tweezers to pull the nib, just because I feel I have more control on the grip that way, I usually push it back in with my fingers though!

This might sound like a dumb question, but can you also pull out the brush end of the marker and refill directly into the barrell as well? Or is it better to refill from the chizel end?

I can't see why not since the brush nib is removable/replaceable but the shape of the chisel nib just seems much easier to get a grip on somehow and the nib has a sturdier feel so it seems like the logical one to remove.

Definitely refill from the chisel end....the super brush tip doesn't like to be tugged on...it is the only tip that is truly hand crafted so you wouldn't want to unwind those woven fibers....only tug on the brush tip end if you are replacing the nib....
