Eyelets? how do you use them?

hi everyone i was wondering how do i use eyelets do i have to buy something else in order to use it and what about Brads and Snaps?

wow, I think you are very new to card making and/or scrapbooking. LOL Now don't go crazy with these embellishments until you are sure you want to use them. I attach layers or even just use them as a decoration on cards and pages. For eyelets you need a hole punch and a setter. After paying big bucks for the crop-a-dile you need to use only their eyelets because I have a million (no exaggerating here) making memories and they do not work with the C-A-D. I still use the old fashioned punch and setter with a rubber mallet. I love the banging to get out the frustrations. Also with brads you would need a paper piecer so that you are not creasing your card if pushing them thru. I push pin works well too. I don't use snaps but I think they could be attached with adhesive.

I just wanted to add that snaps are basically hole-less eyelets so they get set the same way.

My use for eyelets is as burgular deterants LOL....just scatter them on the floor under your windows and if he breaks in he will make noise and if he's barefoot he will scream ( ala Home Alone) LOL just kidding...I hate eyelets and wouldn't use them if you paid me.....have about 50 assorted that will be sold at my estate sale in about a 100 years.

I never cared for the look of eyelets but I like snaps and brads. I don't like the hammering needed for snaps and don't own a C-A-D (assuming it would work w/the snaps I've hoarded) so use brads. I do think eyelets are great for reinforcing holes, such as in a tag.

Making Memories has a silent setter kit that you can buy. I love mine! It has all the punch sizes for the holes and differnt sized setters, and the mat all stored neatly in a small tin! The setter is spring oladed, so no hammering is required. Very easy to use! I love the look of eyelets, especilly on masculine cards. They're cheaper than brads too!

I have a Crop-a-Dile and have never purchased their brand of eyelets. I've used it with We R Memory Keepers Extra large eyelets - no problems with those. Also with regular sized eyelets that I think are probably Eyelet Outlet ones. Maybe the Making Memories ones are just a different type of metal or something?

Before the Crop-a-Dile I used the type of hole punch you hit with a hammer and the setter that went with it. I switched to the C-a-D because I could never set the Extra Large eyelets cleanly with those basic tools. Worked fine and dandy for ordinary eyelets though.

There is a brand of eyelets called "Quicklets" that don't need a setter. Once you have punched your hole and pushed your Quicklet into it, you can use something like the tip of a pen to set them. I guess they are just much softer metal and more deeply scored to make them splay out more easily. Those are great if you don't like bashing stuff with a hammer!

Brads are really easy to use and don't need any specialist tools. Make a small hole or slit in your paper where you want your brad to go using anything sharp/pointy you have to hand (tip of a craft blade, piercing tool, push pin etc) and then push the brad through and open out the "legs" at the back. You're done!

I seem to be in a minority because I have lots of Making Memories snaps, and have no trouble whatsoever in setting them with the Crop-a-Dile. I don't have as many of their eyelets, but don't remember experiencing any issues with them either.
For the OP, there are two things that can be referred to as snaps.
There are the ones that are like eyelets only without a hold in the centre, so they look a bit like brads.
And recently I've been seeing the sort used in sewing on some cards - I think Tim Holtz Forums at Splitcoaststampers them. I guess you would attach them with some sort of glue, but the sort I think you are referring to need a setting tool the same as eyelets.

I noticed that you're in vista...if you feel like a drive...I'm co-hosting a ladies night at The Stamp Addict tonight (Fri) and would be glad to give you a hands on tutorial with the crop-a-dile...or if you just happen to be in the neighborhood anytime soon there are several ladies there that can show you how to use it. It's one of the cool tools for this sort of thing. Great for eyelets and making holes as well as embellishing with dot embossing.
