Your favorite card making books

Hi all, just joined today, but I've been *lurking* for weeks.. this is a GREAT community and site!

I've searched for a thread about favorite books and couldn't find one, so I wanted to post this question:

What are you favorite card making/paper crafting books? I'm just getting started and want to buy a few books that will give me ideas and details on techniques. Which are the books you refer to over and over?

sorry i don't have any referrals for books... BUT

have you checked out the techniques forum here on SCS? there is a plethora of information there... you might could save yourself some money!

i have learned SO SO much from the people right here on SCS! there are so many people willing to answer questions at the drop of a hat! you just post a question and you will have an answer in no time! there are also gobs of tutorials on all kinds of subjects too!

i hope you find what you are looking for be it referrals for book, answers to questions, tutorials or what ever it may be! happy stamping and welcome to SCS!!!

Same here. This site is an encyclopedia for scrapbooking and card making. If there weren't so much info on here, my house wouldn't be dirty and my family wouldn't be starving!:mrgreen:

The books I like the most is by Paper Crafts and is called Card Creations. Lots of great pics and instructions. Happy reading.

Momis Mama, thanks so much for the encouragement. I bought my beginning supplies today.. a Big Shot, some dies, a scor-pal kit, and a few other stamps. All my stuff should be here by next week, and I'm really looking forward to getting started on some ideas swirling around in my head. I've been spending hours myself on this site, and had not found that techniques thread, so thanks for that, too!

If you look at the top of the SCS window on the right you'll see "resources". That is the link I posted above.

The other area you could look is in the gallery. Yes you'll see a lot of pictures, but a lot of the time there are links to their blogs that have directions.

If I find a stamp I like or have then I type that into the search option (on the left side of the screen) when I am in the gallery. Then, if anyone has made a card with that image those cards will appear.

This site is wonderful and yes, overwhelming to start with. You said you purchased a scor-pal. You can check that area of the site too!

I agree, I find a lot on SCS, so much so, I'll be giving up my subscription to Papercrafts and Cardmakers magazines. I do like "Just Cards," its published four times a year, but I recommend looking through one at your local bookstore before buying a copy. When I first started, I got 'The Rubber Stamper's Bible', by Francoise Read (amazon.com). It has some basics in it that I found very helpful and it gives you step by step instructions on several techniques. I like having hard copies of some things as I don't always have access to my computer. Most of the techniques can be found on SCS, so if you can look through the book before you buy you can decide if its right for you. Good luck and have fun, there's a lot of extremely talented people here that can teach you everything you've ever wanted to know and then some....LOL

i also allowed my magazine subscriptions to expire because i prefer the info i find here but i do agree that it is nice to have a few mags or books around for 'just in case'

My favorite is Card Design by Dave Brethauer of Memory Box. He gives really good guidance on colored pencil and watercolor techniques, and he includes advice on composition and design. There are large pictures of each card in the front section of the book and clear instructions in the back, along with full information on the supplies and sources used for each card. I've CASEd some of the cards and used others as inspiration and springboards. I love the information I get here on SCS, too, but this is my go-to book!
