I love the new wider ribbon, especially that available from SU! But how do you use it on cards? I'm having a harder time incorporating it into my layouts than the 1/4" ribbon.

I like wide ribbon. If there's blank space on the card, wide ribbon layed around and tied in a bow or even just a knot can look great. Or you can use it where you might have used a strip of patterned paper - on it's own or with another ribbon layered on top even. Some time back there was a challenge which was layered ribbons TLC163.
Here's mine from that challenge, but check out the gallery using that keyword for more great ideas. TLC163 Stacked Ribbon Friendship by Cook22 at Splitcoaststampers

A good rule of thumb when using wide ribbon is to keep the ribbon proportionate with the area where it's used. For example, the really wide stuff looks better (and is easier to handle) when it's wrapped/tied around a larger area... say, the entire card base, and not a smaller panel. Smaller ribbon can be used either way (around large and small areas) and still look good, but IMO, the larger ribbons just look better on larger areas. ;) HTH
I am not very good with wider ribbon either, but I am working on it. However, I know someone who is good with all kinds of ribbon, and her name is Becca Feeken. She even has video tutorials on tieing bows with ribbons on her blog. She also has an awesome storage solution for them too. You can find Becca at http://www.amazingpapergrace.com
Her creations are amazing, and she does some awesome stuff with wide ribbon.
I just don't see how these are mailed with the big bows without them getting winkled and mushed.
mama love the wedding card!

I emailed Becca Feeken about the wide ribbons tied in bows on cards, and she replied that yes, they do get flattened, or smushed. There is no way to avoid it.
