Can someone tell me what is the trick to get the corners to look good when using the SU Scallop Punch on 4 sides of a piece of paper? I have tried and tried and my corners look horrid. Is there some sort of lesson here on the board that teaches that? I notice some of you come up with perfect rounded corners. Thanks!
I saw a tut on mjalbright.wordpress.com showing how to use the new SU scallop edge punch. The date was July 9, 2008. That being said, I could not get nice corners like hers. I also noticed that my scallops were not clean and tried the aluminum & waxed paper but didn't help. I am getting mine replaced by my demo. Maybe you will have better luck.
Here is the link for the tutorial mentioned in the 3rd post. I think the trick to this is not just the alignment of the punch, but also the size of the square that you start with.
Hi babybs: I am so with you! Haven't gotten my punch yet, but do have it on order. Can't wait to start playing with i! The instructions/videos to me are like physics class....confusing and difficult to understand lol. This girl will need to have the punch in my hand and do the trial and error thing.
I've tried so many "tricks and techniques" for this with the Threading Water punch, and I have come to the conclusion that it just can't be done consistently. It seems to be hit or miss. I'd be very interested if someone discovered a fool-proof method.
The problem is the Stampin' Up scallop punch begins and ends with just a half scallop. The Fiskars scallop punch begins and ends with a full scallop. Therefore you can align Fiskars for a full scallop on the corner, where the Stampin' Up one can not be.
I just hold the Stampin' Up punch backwards and align paper edge up with the edge of the first full scallop and not the half one. I also end it with the edge of a full scallop.
I saw a video where the person showed having the half scallop on the edges, I don't care for that look. Just a personal opinion.
I now have both punches and use them each, but for different purposes.
I figured this out by a happy accident! Start with a 2 1/2 inch square. Lay the square in the scallop edge punch off to the side of center then slide it over until you feel a slight "stop". Punch at the stop then rotate the paper and punch each side in the same manner. You'll have to use paper snips to cut the corners - or you can just leave it as it is and thread some wide ribbon through it with a knot or a bow in the center.

On the other hand, I had no trouble at all with the Martha Stewart scalloped punch. Now I am wondering if I even want the SU one I ordered.

So does someone know what the difference is between the Martha Stewart one and the SU! punch?

Andrea*B.......In my opinion the difference between the Stampin' Up scallop border punch and the Fiskars one is.....Fiskars has a small hold in the center of each scallop and the punch starts and ends with a full scallop.
Stampin' Up punch has no hole in the scallop and it starts and ends with only a half scallop.
To me the scallops seem to be the same size with each punch. I now have both and use each one equally for projects depending on the look I want.

P.S. When I'm using the Stampin' Up border punch, I position my paper so that my border starts and ends with a full scallop. Just a matter of personal taste.
I'm able to do it if I flip it over and line it up, however I can't start with a pre-measured square or rectangle. I just have to punch till I think it's big enough, then turn it and line it up. Don't ask me why.. lol When you turn the corner, you can't push the paper all the way back to the stop or it won't work. So you really do have to flip it over and watch what you're doing from underneath. It's not that hard, but it sure is time consuming.
I much prefer the threading water punch for this. With that one, you just have to match up the little hole when you turn the corner (again, I do this looking at it from underneath). It's much much easier than SU's.

I have a half circle slot punch from Stampin up and make scallops with that but if making a square or a circle, I can't get it to match up perfect with the first punch and the last punch. How do you determine size and scallop to match up right?

WOW she has some talent! I admire her! I will strive to scallop punch like her.
I just wanted to put my two cents in against the Martha Stewart Punches....they don't punch thru the thicker SU cardstock. So I don't recommend them. SU punches beautifully thru thick cardstock, however I'm still learning how to get the nice edges too.
