Has anyone cleaned their hot knife blade?

Mine has gunk burnt on (I'm guessing it's the adhesive from th EZ mount). The sides of my foam feel sticky from it. Is there something that will clean it or should I just buy replacements?

I've cleaned it with alcohol (when cool of course).

All I do is use sandpaper to remove the black hard things on the blade with not much success. Plus the joint on the blade (you know where there's 2 dots that connect it to the metal) is moving "up" It's a little crooked now :( The blade itself is straight but the joint part is loose. hope that made sense.

just bought a hot knife----scared to use it though. Any last minute advice before putting it to work?

Glitter Galore, here is a tip: after sticking the rubber to your ez mount (or whichever cushion you are using), powder the entire surface. This will avoid gucking (spelling?) up the hot knife. The powder cleans off the stamps very easily. Oh, and I use a glass mat when I am cutting, so the blade will not damage my surfaces.

Don't be nervous! It is fun and worth doing. Just remember to stay in a well ventilated area ('cuz it will smell a bit).

I use my dremel and sand it with a grinder bit - makes it sharp and VERY shiny!

I just scrape mine with my scissors and works good. Black coloring stays on but ive had mine for over a year and haven't changed the blade at all and I mount tons of stamps

I wad up a paper towel and sit it on the table. After cutting, I lay the side of the knife on the paper towel and swipe. I don't leave the knife on the paper towel but a second so it doesn't start it on fire. I removes the excess gunk from the knife. The blade is still black colored but doesn't seem to bother it cutting.
