I also plan on signing up on the 11th. I have been debating it for a few months and decided I would wait until the new catalog comes out. Going to be a hobby demo at first and take advantage of the discount and then see where it goes.
Because there is no better day to start a business than now. (of course I'd wait a week for the free set but, months that's a different story.) While you wait, you could be making money. When you wait for the next best thing you could be missing out. You mentioned one last big order with your demo. Maybe it would be better to have your first big order for yourself. You'd get the bonus 10% income from your first order on it. That could easily make up the difference between a $47.95 set vs. a $65 set of markers. Just my 2 cents. Welcome to the SU family-whenever you make that leap. I have found it to be a fabulous experience.
True, but I am looking at it from a hobbyist perspective. There are so many demos in my area, tons of them. I think customers are at a minimum so even if a person signs now, there is no guarantee that they will be making money. We are living in a recession. The only benefit of signing up now would be to get into the demo area on this website.
I think we will be hearing some BIG new today concerning signing-up---JMO My rationale: (1) Shelli's announcement BEFORE the convention about online ordering (2) demo locator for all demos that have a demo website (3) 20th anniversary (4) couple of years ago the incentive was an entire free set of stamp pads from any color group (that was a biggie--IMO) (5) the Big Shot announcement yesterday IS BIG news; however, not many are going to be able to purchase such a large ticket item---they will need something that is more affordable & inticing to the average Jane stamper (6) yes, a free stamp set is nice; however, SU does offer such an incentive at certain points throughout the year---I would think this time it would be---"and wait...there's more!"
Again---these are JMOs & a LOT of hopeful thinking!! ` hehehe
Here's hoping this afternoon's announcement brings a discounted starter kit or an In Color Sampler (ooooo wouldn't that be nice) or something similar.
If I click my heels & wish it three times...will it come true??? ~ Smiles ~ Kelli
I heard that they are offering 1 less stamp set in the starter kit and 1 less stamp pad, so offering a stamp set is not a big deal. Guess I will be waiting until October.

I am thinking of joining also - what is the advantage of waiting until October? Thanks!
I just joined in May ( I think) and I got the starter kit for 159.00 with a hodgepodge tin. I'm just a hobbyist, but I love being able to order when I want and not waiting for someone to have a party. I'm waiting for the new catty and I go go hog wild.
The only advantage of waiting until October is that it begins the new quarter and your minimums won't be due until the end of March. Also, if you order 300.00 within the 45 days, you will not have another minimum order due until March. If the starter kit has less in it than the old kit and there isn't a good bonus for signing up, it really doesn't make sense for me to do it before October.

Thanks for the info Terri - So, if I signed now, then I would have to turn in a $300 order by when?
And if I wait until October, I will have until March to submit a $300 order?
If you were to sign up now, you would need to submit $300 in orders by Dec 31st to stay active. You can submit a single order or many smaller orders. It doesn't matter.

True- However the value of the stamp sets in the old package was $109.75 and the value of the new sets is $116.80 so the kits are about equal (within a $ or 2) when you compare their value when you subtract the $5.25 for the missing ink pad.
Is it one order of $300. or in the 3 months your orders have to total over $300?
your quarterly minimum is $300, the quarters are 3 months long. so if you have one $300 order, you're set. but you can also have multiple orders that add UP to $300.

Sorry, but I'm still a bit confused about waiting until October to sign up. If you have 3 months to order your minimum ($300) - why would you have until the end of March if you signed in October? That would be 6 months.

The reason for this is that the quarter you sign up in doesn't have a minimum requirement because it's a partial quarter. For example if you sign up now (July-Sept Qtr) you wouldn't need to make your minimum until the 1st FULL quarter, which would be Oct-Dec. **However any orders you place during your partial quarter will counter towards your first minimum. So if you were to sign up today, order $300 tomorrow you would have met your first minimum and wouldn't need to worry about it again until the Jan-Mar qtr. Hope that makes sense.
The current list of stamp on the Demo Starter Kit Order Form is $116.25 which is form 5 stamp sets and one regular wheel.
The four new stamp sets total $116.80. My question is does is there still a wheel included in the new Demo Starter Kit?
Yes there is still a wheel. The only changes that I can see are in the breakdown of the stamp sets and one less ink pad. Everything else appears to be the same.

Thanks Deborah for that info. That makes my decision so much easier. I was kind of worried about having to come up with a $300 order in a month or so after signing up. Question though. Do you have to place an order every month or can it just be one big order? Starting out I may not have an order in the first month or so.
You can place as many orders as you want, as long as the total merchandise comes to $300. You could even wait until the last day of the quarter and place one big order (I wouldn't recommend that though!)

It can be one $300 order or 6 $50 orders or whatever combo works for you. It just needs to be a total of $300 by the end of your first full quarter. You can have one order on Dec 29th for $300 and it will fulfill your requirement. Demonstrator, workshop, and all customer orders count toward your sales. Yor starter kit and any supply orders do not count toward your sales.

also make sure when you are keeping track of how close you are to hitting minimums -- taxes and shipping do NOT count -- its the MERCHANDISE total that matters... its easy to accidently total up the wrong set of numbers, and then you would be short.
Do you also get a certain percentage off your first order or workshop after becoming a demo? It seems to me that I heard that somewhere although now I can't remember where.
Your first "workshop" order (first order over $150) you receive a 30% discount instead of the regular 20%. But only the first workshop within 45 days of the day you sign up.
Sorry, another question...does the hostess level benefit you get go by what you spent before the discount, or after? For example, if i place an order that would normally earn me a level 3 hostess before the discount, but then the 30% is taken off and it drops me to what would be a level 2, which does it go by? Does that make sense?
