HI everyone. By now some of you have seen my many requests for help.
Here is a question that I am hoping you don't all fall off your chair laughing at.
I have a set called, "Lots of Thoughts".
I each rubber has a number of lines on it.
BUT, I don't want to stamp all the lines (and they don't look like they should all be done at once anyway).
So, how do I get The 4 line of five lines stamped
The stamp is like this
CHEERS
TO YOU
It's Your Special DAy
Happy Birthday
Your're the Greatest
I just want, Cheers to You on the front
And Happy Birthdya for the middle of my card.
Can anyone help?????
Thanks,
Paula
(Have you all recovered from laughing at my silly question?????)
It is a good question. When I have a stamp that I only want a part of, I cover up the unwanted part with tape, press the stamp into ink, then peel the tape off and stamp onto paper. I hope this works for what you need!

When I only want to use part of a stamp I put masking tape over the parts I don't want to use then ink up the stamp. I remove the tape before stamping on paper. You might want to practice on scratch paper first to make sure you have the positioning down right before you stamp on your good paper.
Thank you everyone. I made the card before everyone posted.
It came out ok.
It's only my second one, so I am satisfied.
I had used the "kit" that I had purchased.
I will take a photo before I seal the envelope. Not near as good as it could be, learned a lot.
I didn't have markers in the house, so I used a q-tip to dab the ink on then wiped off around it. I like th etape Idea and will use tha tin the future.
We would never laugh at a silly question (LOL). How else will you learn?
I have done all of the suggestions listed above. I find markers are the easiest! You might have to "huff" on the image before you stamp it to make sure it has moisture. Understand?
Tape is good. But not when you forget to take it off. :( I am so sure no one has ever done that (I have!).
These are some good suggestion I will remeber these thanks. I am new at this also, but I am learning alot from coming here, everytime i come I learn something that can help me thanks
Thanks again everyone. because I am so new at this I don't have markers.
I had the "kit" and that was it. So, I had to make do with what I had in the house.
I wish the markers weren't so expensive. I am going to be putting in my first order with my wonderful demo, and wish I could get the markers. Since I am not familiar with the colors and such, I really am not comfortable ordering the individual colors. So, hopefully I will be able to make do with the water color pencils when it comes to this situation in the future.
What I did with this set is to cut/seperate the words BEFORE I mounted the set. So, I cut the 'Cheers to You' away from the rest of the stamp. You will just need to mount each piece on opposite sides of the block. Or, you can do as I did and mount it on EZ Mount, then cut apart. This way, if I want the whole saying I just put it together like a puzzle on the acrylic block and stamp away. Good Luck!
I know you are already finished but you may want to consider masking the card and then when you stamp the part you do not want will stamp on the masking. You can just pull of the masking and you are fine.
FYI - masking can be a post-it, scrap paper, or what I prefer is Eclipse tape.
Sometimes its hard to put tape on the stamp if the lines of words over lap. I find that masking is easier.
Also, this is when a stamp-a-ma-jig is perfect so you align the words the way you want.
Finally, I do cut up my stamps when the words seem like they do really work for my style. Since I don't plan on selling stamps I don't worry about what I do to the stamp just so as I'm happy with the results.
I agree with masking the card.
Because I've had a couple of accidents when, even using tape before inking the stamp, if the stamp wasn't spotlessly clean it can leave a little ghost image. I thought I cleaned my stamps pretty well, too. It's usually Versamark that is the culprit.

I don't have the SU markers either (shh don't tell anyone!) but what I have done is gone to HL or M's and got the markers I need for the occassion. I have a handful of primary colors and that has gotten me by so far! Just a thought and not so expensive!
I think it would be too much work for this type of project, but if you're ever trying to only ink part of a large/detailed stamp here's what I do: Ink the whole thing and then use a qtip dipped in cleaner to wipe away ink I don't want transfered. You have to be careful not to over-saturate your qtip (actually, a dry one works fine for dye ink) or too much fluid will get down in the design - which will transfer to the paper & look nasty. It works pretty well if you're careful, just time consuming!
I used the post it notes before for masking and I get the larger ones (knock off ones at Wally world work great) to make it easier for me. I hold the post it note over the area that I don't want inked and then ink my stamp on the pad and then remove the post it note and it's that easy.

I didn't read all the posts, so I don't know if someone already recommended this, but I use blue painters tape and mask off the area that I do not want to stamp before I ink the stamp. The I remove the tape and stamp the inked section of the stamp. The blue tape doesn't affect the stamp or cause it to get sticky. Hope this helps
