How do you store your??

Paper and CS?? I have a lot of cardstock and just stocked up on colors I don't have. Right now I have 8 desktop trays stacked up and it just doesn't fit and I never know which color is which. What can I do??? I have very limited space by the way. Just a corner of my kitchen with a computer desk and a IKEA cabinet.

I like using filing cabinets or file boxes...you can get the plastic milk crate type files and put the 8-1/2 x 11 paper in there, and then there are file containers for 12 x 12 but you have to look in scrapbook stores or online for those. They can be filed according to color and labeled and they take up a whole lot less room than the trays, which I have some of the trays and like them but they just take up too much room. I'm at work right now so I can't post a picture but that's what works for me. Hope you find something that works!

I have a 2 shelf unit that I've turned on it's side and stored in that are individual plastic sleeves that are 12x12 in size and have a snap closure on them. I store each colour in one of those sleeves and I have labelled the side of them. I keep them stored in colour family (all my SU C/S only).

My non SU C/S is stored in a similar way, but in a different shelving unit - again, I've turned the unit on it's side. This lets me stack one on top of the other and in fact I have both of them sitting on top of a huge 4 drawer filing cabinet that is used for "junk" storage in my craft room. This allows me to easily access any and all of my C/S at any time.

I keep half sheets in them as well. In the brown drawers which I got at ikea I keep scraps. I have color families in one, neutral, in color, and the last one is specialty paper like glossy, metallic etc.

You could also divide up each color and store them in large closeable plastic bags (use masking tape to write on and label each color). You can purchase a box of them at the grocery store.....not sure of the size whether gallon ones are large enough, but look on the box for the measurement. Target or Walmart or store like that would be cheapest.

Also store paper laying horizontal not verticle. Keeps it flat and won't get large wrinkles like if stored hanging or verticle in a file sleeve.

If you're talking about the plastic trays that are purchased from an office store and stack on one another, that's a very good way to organize your paper. Just use the plastic bags with those to keep the paper clean. In your kitchen you don't want uncovered paper to pick up stuff floating around. Those trays will stack to no limit (or at least as high as you can reach) so they take up very little room.

File folders in a plastic bin froms Staples. The bin is designed to slide easily, so when I'm done working, I pop the top back on and slide it under my desk. Enjoy!

This is one area I so need to improve.
Right now, I have a crate with file folders for my Bazzill, TAC, and SU bulk cs, magazine holders for my printed paper collections, which are in individual craft keepers per collection, 8.5x11 and 12x12 drawers for assorted printed papers and 12x12 cs, and a large plastic tote for all the DCWV Stacks, small Basic Grey pads, and TAC pads I have collected through the years.
My biggest obstacle is space and I have none. We are also moving in approx. 5 months, and I am not going to invest in new storage quite yet, until I know where my stamping area will be in the new home.

I love threads like this to see what others are doing, so maybe someone has a great idea that will work for me! ;)

I use the magazine file containers that I got at container store. I have one for SU papers and one for Bazzil papers. I have another for generic matting paper, and one for white and neutral coverstocks. I keep the papers in files labeled with color family and color. It is easier to find that way. For my 12x12 papers I cut up a large box- (I think one I got from a TAC order) in the shape of a magazine holder and altered it so it would match my decor. It holds my DCWV stacks and basic grey really well.

For my SU paper I store the cardstock in magazine holder for both sizes. I have an Iris bin that I store all my SU pattern paper in.

Several ways. For all non-SU cardstock, I have a scrapbook paper storage rack (seen here http://www.organize-it-online.com/itm_paperstorage.html )

My SU cardstock is in a file drawer from Crop N Style. I got it at Michaels with a 40% off coupon (they are ridiculously priced). I love it because they make file folders that fit 12 x 12 paper and I can label them easily.

All of my patterned paper is stored in the Cropper Hopper vertical storage containers.

I store mine in an old "teacher" mailbox my fiance got from the school district he works for. They were throwing it away so he grabbed it for me. You can buy smaller versions from office supply stores. It is really sturdy and I use a couple of the openings for other odds and ends.

I use a 3 drawer plastic dresser to store scraps of paper and smaller pieces in 2 of the drawers and then my 12x12 paper in the other drawer. You just can't see it in the picture because it is stored under my work table and it didnt' have it when I took the second picture below.
I also have some of my packs of 12x12 in the black file sorter sitting on the floor in front of my work table

I have my 8x11 in the SU vertical storage and my 12x12 in a similar thing that I got online from Joannes for less then half what the 12x12 SU one costs. I just got them today and LOVE them and organized the craftin area! I will have to get some pictures of my sad little area oneday and post them!

Just a note when storing paper, many plastics and cardboards have pvc, lignen and acid in them that will fade your papers. I really like the vertical storage as it does not take up too much room and I am not sure but assume that cropper hopper (I think this is really what the ones in the catty are) is safe to use for our papers without fading. IMHO

I purchased all matching furniture for my scrap room when I started and one of those pieces was a nice verical file. In the drawer I have a folder for each color in each color family. They are divided by a folder that says the name of the color family and that folder contains a package of the assorted papers that I can grab and run. It is perfect for me with two color families on each side of the drawer. There is a few inch gap in between the rails that seperate the two sides and I store some extra packages of paper in there. Each folder will hold at least two full packages plus whatever I have opened. Hope this helps. Blessings.

My husband made me a paper cabinet which holds loads of paper. I am in the process of purchasing all the colors. I started sorting them by color families, ie, bold brights, etc. and I was having such a hard time remember which shelf they were on so one day I pulled them all out and now I store them alphabetically. So now when I am looking for Perfect Plum, I know exactly where to find it! My husband also made me a two-drawer unit that sits on top of our work tables for my 12 x 12 papers. I have four sections and have divided the papers up into vellum, solids, etc.

I was blessed to get my hands on some paper racks when my local Joann's went out of business. I got 2 8 1/2 x 11 racks that hold a total of 30 colors. And I also got a 12 x 12 rack that holds 24(?) different papers/cs....I only paid $30 for the lot of them. My husband adapted them to hang them directly onto my walls rather than having to use pegboard like they did in the store. I LOVE that I can see my cs right in front of me.

I am very lucky that my DH went on-line for Christmas a couple years ago and bought me a 20 shelf rack that holds 12x12 paper. I store my cardstock on that - divided by solid color and patterned color (i.e. purple cardstock on one shelf and purple patterned paper on the shelf below).

I put my theme papers, like for Christmas and birthday, sorted in a 12x12 file box.

I have a separate 12x12 file box for scraps sorted by color.

The system works great!

Mine is in Cropper Hopper vertical storage - LOVE it!!! It's so easy to find what I'm looking for and great to make the most of the space I have available! I know it's already been mentioned, just had to be sure to get it out there again!

for cardstock--81/2 x 11 I use the magazine file holders. wth them standing up I can see all the colors at once and pull one sheet out without
having to move any others. I have about 6 of them and put two or three
colors in each.
For my 12 x 12 paper my husband built me a holder with I think its 24 shelves. I put a label on each one and go by topic like, floral,stripe, dot, plain colored, matching (as in coordinated papers), etc,etc.

I found a wood, painted paper holder that sits on top of something. It holds
legal papers or it has stops to put in for 81/2x11 papers. there are two rows of 6 shelves. I got it at an estate sale for $4. I have been going to put my
cardstock in it, but I'm thinking I still like the magazine holders as they are
so easy to see and take out of each one. or take one whole file and put it
on my desk.

I'm a Cropper Hopper vertical too, but I use a lot more 12 x12 than 8.5 x 11. I've found two ways that I like to use them, I put the croppers into milk crates with solids sorted by ROYGBIV, currently have two crates full separated by smooth and textured, and my patterned paper in two crates by mfg in one crate and color family in the other. I then made what I call a "skateboard" from 3/4" MDF and some casters large enough to put two crates side-by-side. I painted the MDF to match my space, screwed in some cheapie handles on each end and put the crates on it. That way I can roll them under my table to store and then pull them out from whichever side of the table I am working on where I can sit and look right down in it. I can also roll them anywhere else in the house I am working--paper is heavy and this works for me. I even put a pull cord on one end of the skateboard and just drag my skateboard around if I'm not at my table. :-)

I agree, vertical is the only way to store cardstock, unless you buy huge quanities of the each color. I don't, so I like the ease of pulling one piece of cardstock from my stash. I store all mine in magazine files (8.5x11)and/or cropperhopper file holders (12x12). The magazine files come in several widths, I use the widest. My cardstock and papers fill two whole shelves in my metal cupboard. I slide the holder to the front of the shelf and pluck out the sheet I want. I had no trouble filling them up full enough to stop curling of corners. I arrange them in order by color. So the shelves blend in an array of shades. yellows, oranges to reds. etc. Several on this site have enough paper to keep one color to each shelf, all I see is the space inbetween the shelves that I can't share. Hope this helps.

An inexspensive alternative to magazine holders is to cut down heavy cardboard cereal boxes to the same shape as a magazine holder if you want to decorate use up some patterned paper that you are not using.

I have the same letter trays as you and had the same problem. So I got some zip lock baggies, the large 1 gal size, not the ones with the ziper closure, just the one that you press to close. The paper fits into the bag but it wont close. Place each color in a separate bag and write on one side the color with a sharpie, make sure when you place the bag back in the letter trey with the name on the outside so you can find the color you need. This also makes it easy for me to stuff my scraps back into the bag for the next time. I find I use my scraps more this way also. Hope this helps!

the top one is the ones that I use. Got them at Mike's w/coupon. My friend has them in her VERY organized craft room so I had to have them. I leave the SU plastic on mine so I can be sure of the color name.

What I did for the time being is, I had some priority boxes that I got for free from USPS.com and they are the flat ones that you could send like shirts in or something and I cut them down at the top so the paper sticks out. You can decorate the boxes too. Easy and the boxes were free.

Does anyone have the sizes of the 12 x 12 vertical paper holders, whether they are SU or Cropper Hopper? I got this great storage system at IKEA but need to store those pesky 12 x 12 papers somewhere and my rolling cart doesn't work anymore! My cubes are 13.5-13.5, so that's why I'm asking dimensions!!
