I took your advice and bought the ATG. It is a red one with the narrow tape. I am having trouble keeping the tape on the rollers though. Is that normal or can you offer me any help. TIA!
I had a little trouble at first--but not now at all. At first I tended to turn the corners rather than stop lift and restart. When I got the hang of that no more problems--I just love mine and am so very glad I got it. The more you use it the more comfortable you will get with it. Did you watch the little video U-Tube like thing on it--that helps a lot. I will try to find the link for you.

OK!! I can't keep my tape from getting too close to the edge of the rollers. On the main roller that you use with pressure, the tape is so close to coming totally off of the roller. Is this how it should really be?
it is suppose to be right on the edge, remember this gun is what framers use and they want it right at the edge. sometimes my tape even comes as much as 1/2 the way off the bottom roller, and I have found that I am holding the gun crooked. Check to make sure you are threaded correctly and that there is no problem with the roll of tape you are using. If all else fails, try loading a new roll on and see if that fixes the problem. Mine comes off the roll slighty, but it doesn't bother me now, as long as it does not come all the way off. If it bothers me I just use a very light pressure and push it back onto the roller correctly

I'm like Lisa - mine is at the very edge, and I'm used to it. One thing that I've noticed is that if I hold the gun directly vertical (as opposed to a slight tilt left or right), it stays put (at the edge); if I do tilt, it tends to start slipping.
I'm having lots more trouble than you gals... mine slips but it also is sticking to itself and then stops rolling and then the tape breaks. I am also noticing that the roll thats remaining is not staying wound evenly, i.e. its starting to liftup off the holder so I'm sure that's why it won't stay wound properly... I'm not real happy so far, and I really want to like this adhesive, such a great value if I can get it to work!

maybe you have it too loose from one roll to the other. It is supposed to be taunt. Good luck with it. I love mine and would never go back to other adhesives.
Not sure... seems like I almost have it too tight. It just stops rolling like it is stuck... maybe the tape I got was old? I'm wondering if that is the problem. I just ordered some more rolls from a different store... and I read on another thread that people have been very happy with them. So we'll see...
Thanks for the heads up though, I will try again when I load the next one!

It sounds like you might have old tape. Now, I did have one roll that seemed to seperate from itself on the part that was still yet to be used. It was coming off the roller and such. I just fed it back on and babied it along and now after about a yard or so I can use it again regularly. It still feeds tighter then my other rolls do, but it is usable. I figure once I get past the seperated part it will work just fine again. I have two guns, so it is no problem for me to still keep this other tape going.

This is exactly what is happening to mine. I do have a atg 700 and i dont have the problem with that at all. So Im thinking maybe it's the tape?
Its so frustrating. Ive wasted one roll already..and i can see the 2nd roll doing the same thing.
Im going to try to get my tape from DICKBLICK....the same place i got my tape for my 700 gun and hopefully it will be ok
do you have anyone locally that can take a look at it? any stores that sell the atg? or any scs members in your area? you shouldn't have had to waste a whole roll...
I have had more luck with the Gold tape instead of the regular. I pretty much wasted 5 rolls of the regular tape (I do think it was a bad batch though). So far so good on the gold tape. (Hope I didn't jinx myself!)

That's interesting Deb, I just traded with two ladies on here for one roll of my regular tape for one roll of the Gold tape. I have not yet put it on the roller, but we shall see how it goes. I did go through both my boxes of adhesive and found two rolls that looked the tightest wound and the neatest on the roller in the middle. Then I put them in bubble wrap before putting them in the envelope with a hard piece of cardboard. Hope they make it to them ok. :-)

I'm having the same problems as you guys are - tape coming off of the side of the red rollers and/or breaking and the tape on the inside dispenser coming apart and/or becoming oblong. Hope someone comes up with a solution so I don't have to throw away more tape.
The best I can tell you is I've followed their directions for loading the tape (and there is a video on the website if you need more than just the written directions) and haven't had any problems so far. Also, someone had mentioned (not sure what thread it was on) that when you put the new roll on, it needs to go all the way on the front roller till the center hub clicks in--but don't press on the tape roll to do this, just press on the hub. Pressing on the tape will distort the roll and mess up the tape.

I left a message for the woman at 3M. She is obviously aware there is an issue because she mentions the ATG in her voice mail stating to leave your number and she will get back to you about it. I'll let you know when I hear something.
I spoke with Barbara at 3M and see was wonderful! They will send out a new ATG and replace the tape I ruined when they are sure the bad batch is out of their stock. Should take a couple of weeks, but that's ok. GREAT customer service!
I have had no problems with mine...just make sure that the roll is wound tight in the empty spool and you put the lock back on and twist it...
also if you happen to squeeze the trigger even a little when you are applying the tape, it makes a little gap and then the tape gets baggy and falls off the roller. I think it just takes some practice.
You will love it though once it all works out.
No matter what I have done, it doesn't work properly. Barbara at 3M said there is a manufacturing flaw with a recent batch. It wasn't me, it was the ATG.
