OK Ladies I have a question and I know you all can help me. I like some of the designs of the SU wheels but I don't like to use the wheels themselves. How hard is it to unmount them and use them like with acrylic blocks or whatever? And how is it done? Does that make sense? Thanks alot
Wow, I've never heard of that, but I would like to know. I never use my wheels and I have a ton! I just wonder if it's possible to straighten them out - hmmmmm.......
I have unmounted all of mine, so easy. Do just like above said. I put mine on ez mount also. I have a long block from CTMH that I use with mine. THey stamp just fine. Some people even cut them up when they have alot of images on them.
Another thing you could do is Take the Mono Multi Glue (green & White) And squeeze some out onto your Stamp, and Brush a Thin layer out on it.
Let it dry and you can use it. Just as you would any Stamp set with Ez-mount foam. No need to purchase any Thin Ez-mount foam!
I'm started doing this with some of the Stamp set's that I have been purchasing from companies that sell unmounted Rubber stamps. That come with Double stick foam.
Great tutorial, but I still have a dumb question. If I just want to permanently mount one to a wood block - do I need to buy double stick foam, or was the above poster saying I can just glue it to the block? Or was she saying that it can be used on an acrylic block like that?

I just peel the rubber off the wheel and when I'm ready to use them, I have several acrylic blocks with Tsukeniko's tack and peel on them, I just take them out of the DVD case and stick them on one of the blocks w/the tack and peel and stamp. The tack and peel is a clear cushion mounting material, real sticky on one side to stick to the block, so you don't take it on and off. The side for the rubber is sticky also, it holds the rubber and if you need to clean it, just run it under soap and water, block, cushion and all! I've even just left the rubber on and cleaned it all at one time.

the rubber is less than 7 in. long... the block I have tack and peel on is 8 in. x 2.5 in. I have blocks for rubber stamps w/tack and peel on them and then blocks for clear stamps that don't have the tack and peel. a gal could use them for both though, put the clear stamps on the side w/out tack and peel. The tack and peel is clear but it does blur things so it probably wouldn't work for specific positioning HTH...

I have been a fan of EZ Mount, but I just unmounted my SU stamps and did not have enough EZ Mount to start putting them on that. I've been using them just plain old rubber on the Tack N Peel and I'm a convert. Soooo much cheaper and super easy. For the ones with larger expanses of rubber, I just stamp on top of a mouse pad to give me a little extra cushion.

yep! I trim mine too - a world of difference...hate to LOVE! lol
EZ Mount is made by Sunday International and you can purchase it there. They also have a big tutorial and photos explaining what it is and how it can be used.
Oh, and FYI I prefer the THIN EZ Mount... for me, I get better impressions with it.

Hi, just my two sents worth. They unmount sooo easily! I use double sided tape and a clear block and make great background papers or scrap pieces to use with punches all of the time.

I don't mount any of the SU sets, I take the cushion off and keep the rubber w/the index sheet in a CD case. I have found that some rubber comes right off and some leave a layer of contact cement that I have to rub off w/my fingers....I hate that when it happens! Anybody need wood blocks????? lol Then when I stamp I use them w/ Tack and Peel on acrylic blocks.

I never used my wheels when they were wheels - just having to get out the handle, find the appropriate cartridge, assemble it all, and the cleaning - forget about it! Besides, I couldn't get a straight edge no matter what I tried - even with the wheel guide!
I LOVE having my wheels unmounted. I find that I use my wheels much more now.

Well, I've done two things with mine....
I keep one "naked" and use it to create other stamps. Here's what I do.....
Pull out the little stamps that you have, ink them up and stamp onto the wheel with pigment ink. Then roll the wheel across your paper or cardstock. You get totally unique combination designs this way.
I've also used this technique on tissue paper and then used the tissue paper in collage.
Other uses for "naked" rollers: Get a package of peel & stick foam shapes and attach them to the wheel. I've made wonderful background stamps using little foam dots and lightning bolts. Non-directional letters - those that don't require specific orientation like O, T, U (as opposed to B, C, D) can be used to create interesting patterns too. Of course, if you use non-sticky letters, you can stick them on in the proper orientation and write names and words and short phrases, limited to the circumference of the roller.
I also covered one of the larger wheels with a sheet of solid peel & stick craft foam, cut to size, and use that like a brayer for transfering to paper from printing plates and rubber stamps. You can also use it to apply even pressure to pieces after they've been through a sticker making machine (I use a Xyron but I imagine it would work equally well for other "sticker maker" machines that require "rubbing" before removing the backing. sab
Thanks for the tip on using Tack 'n Peel! I've used that for other things - rubber bands, etc. but it didn't occur to me to use it with unmounted stamps! No more mounting foam for ME! sab
You guys are totally amazing! I never would have thought of unmounting them. I soooo hate to use them, because it takes forever to dig them out, yada, yada, yada. I am so on my way out to my studio to remove them from their wheels...well as soon as I get dressed I am!

These are terrific ideas for undressed wheels. So very clever.
stampit74.....Thanks for your response to my inquiry. I did find a similar product that I can use.
My issue with using the cartridges with the wheels is that I never got an even coverage of ink, no matter how I tried.
Using the wheel with an ink pad worked well, but also seemed to use too much ink.
I like the idea of unmounting. I've done that and they come off very easy as do the other Stampin' Up wood mounted stamps I have. Foam came off with rubber all in one piece with just a bit of gentle prying.
The stamps I've purchased in stores didn't come off the block in one piece. Rubber came off fine, but foam stayed put (I'm not going the microwave route). No big deal. I just stick the rubber to the clear block. Not sure I really need the foam. Seems to stamp fine with or without foam on the rubber.

Do you wash the glue off the stamp after each use or are you supposed to leave it on ???
do you have to store the acrylic blocks that have the Tack n Peel applied to them and special way? Meaning, is it necessary to keep them dust/lint free? Sorry if this was already mentioned, I didn't see it!

I unmounted one of my wheels so I could make custom wheels. The Sculpey texture sheets fit perfectly on the SU/Rollagraph wheels. Just use double side tape to stick them on and you are good to go! Also I took one and wrapped in in drywall mesh and made a cool stamp! I wish I could get more blank wheels!
