Default Best way to store copic markers?

I just got my first 6 copic markers. YEAH!! So I wanted to know what is the appropriate way to store them. Vertical or horizontal.? Or does it not matter. Any help appreciated.

I contacted Copic directly about this:

Thanks for the e-mail. Japan sells the markers stored both ways, so
it really doesn't matter. AMuse also carries our glitter pens, those
really do need to be stored flat or the glitter won't flow evenly.
Let me know if you have any other questions- I'll be happy to answer!
Sincerely,
Marianne

Note: However, an artist who has worked with alcohol markers for many years has said it's best to store them horizontally. (this was not part of Copic's response, obviously)

Yeah, what Novell said!

Oh, and make sure the caps are snapped shut tight/completely when not in use; they are alcohol-based, so if you're not conscientious about that, they will dry out on you. Some artists have owned their Copics for years, and never even had to refill them, as long as they capped 'em tightly while in storage.

Thank you! Seeing as how I just started collecting them and don't have a case I wanted to make sure I stored them correctly. I just found a post with a tutorial on copics and am very excited to try them

Is it really worth the expense? There are numerous companies represented on this MB that sell markers. What make COPIC so special? I want the best product for my scrapping for sure. I am interested in your humble opinions please.

Copics Markers are not fade-resistant and as they are alcohol based, the ink is not acid free. So, if these are a concern for your scrapbooking, you need to be aware of that.

The Copic Spica Twinkle/Glitter Markers are acid free.

HTH,

Hey, I have a question about Copic markers. What is the best black ink pad to use to stamp your impage before coloring with your copic markers?

I'd second that last question as SU! Black ink ( basic) does tend to run...even when the image has been stamped a few days prior to coloring in with the Copics!

I use Memories, totally "smudge-proof" if dry, and dries within a couple minutes. Versafine works good also, but I find it takes much longer to dry on my GP white paper!

I've been using the Adirondack and haven't had a problem

I've been using Palette Noir and most of the time have no problem with bleed. Sometimes it bleeds a little and I have no idea why it only does that once in a while. I have some Memories ink and need to give that a try too. You could also stamp in black pigment ink and emboss in clear then it definitely won't smear!

I use the palette noir as well. I find that certain paper makes it bleed a little. I usually use papertreys white paper and NEVER have a bleeding or pilling issue. Other than that I would highly recommend the palette noir to anyone.

Default Copic ink compatibility

Some of the inks Copics are compatable with include Versafine Onyx Black & other colors, Ranger Adirondack Inks, Tsukineko Brilliance Ink, or Memories Dye Inkpad. For the most consistent results try heatsetting your image before coloring. Many oil-based inks will get picked up by the solvent and smear.

If these don't work for you, try a different cardstock. Coated papers will not allow the stamped ink to dry completely, so it will bleed.

Copic markers dry acid free, so as soon as the alcohol carrier evaporates they are acid-free.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I have black Brilliance--so I guess I will give that a try.

I have a quick question. I got my Copic markers in the mail. They were wrapped completely in bubble wrap and taped shut. The problem was that a lot of the caps were not tightly closed. Will I have a problem later on? They seem to work and color fine now.

I would probably just make sure they are well capped from here out.

No problem. You'll want to make sure that the caps are tightly on now that you've got them, but if you happen to leave the cap off for a little while (or they fall off in shipping) just replace the caps. If that end was dry, it will re-juice up and work fine.

If the caps are left off for a week, and letting it sit for a few days doesn't help, then the pores on the tip are clogged. Just replace the tip- that should work.
