I'm going to join in with this and try and use up some of that impulse stash buying that I regularly do! But the money I got for christmas that I haven't spent yet doesn't count right??!!
So for me I going to do 15 cards with at least 5 using something from the "Use it up box" = $20 (I have a box with stuff in that needs to be used up first! This is mainly embellishments and different types of paper like peach skin and mesh paper).
Off to make some cards and earn some cash!! Also any money I do earn from selling cards to friends and family I'm going to put into a money box and keep it all there until it's full then I can go and spend!!
Great idea by the way Care Bear. Thanks for making me think about how much I buy but don't actually use!
Lets start getting those cards made. I know that I printed out a bunch of card sketches and challenges here at work and when I get home I am going to start on some card bases so that tomorrow when I am at home all day doing nothing, I can get a bunch of cards made and start working my way up to my huge February SU order.
I really like this idea!! When I was pregnant with our first son 4 years ago, I craved scrapbooking supplies. How many pages have I done you may ask? Just 3! That's ridiculous! I really need to step up my game. I like the weight challenge too! I still have 15 pounds that I want to lose from my last pregnancy. I hate to work out, but money sure will motivate me! I need to get started so I have some money to spend in the new catalog!
Okay, as of Jan 1 I am starting....
already over budget, Just did a CTMH party on my own, thanks to a discount given...so I guess I need to go and create create create...
think it counts if I create enough BEFORE the shipment arrives? I have paid, but if I get done before it makes it here...I should be good eh???
I am great at justifying!
Just finished my thank you notes to my students - I know it is a little late, but it counts as 27 cards. I moved my rebounder to the stamp room to force myself to bounce for 10 minutes before I can be creative.
I have thoroughly cleaned the room - organization deluxe. The visiting family members are leaving in the AM and I can get back to semi-normal - ooops back to school on Thursday - I AM NOT READY!!!!!
Let's see how long we can stick to the challenge! (And if we sway, we can always get back on track with a LOT of HELP from our FRIENDS!!!!) I need to use my supplies because I want more AND I have to lose 30 pounds quickly according to the DR. Just had a DOVE chocolate so ladies help me!
OK Sally - 10 more minutes of bouncing... or you can pop over and clean my scrap room for me! That should help you lose 10 lbs. it's soooo messy. I'm not back to work until the 7th (wooohooo) so I'm still working on my thank you's. I only need 7 for work but then some for family.

OH, I need this thread! I am getting way too much bits and pieces, way too much DP and way too much embellishments. It's wrong if I get something, and it's no longer available, before I've even opened it...
I'm going to figure my value/card by the equivalent value of cardstock that I use up and the embellishments that I use up.
I dearly love this thread! It's as if I could have written any one of these posts! Love you women!
I'm adding myself to the exercise part of this challenge, too, at the rate of one dollar per 30 minutes of treadmill time. That's about $1 per day (I hope), and that seems fair to me, for me.
I read with interest about cleaning craft rooms, and where that task fits into this challenge. For me, cleaning the craft room is a free task that enables me to do actually accomplish some productivity!
But I do notice that my amount earned hasn't changed in a week. I have the excuse of being out of town, but now we're back. It's time to get to work!

OK, I made a start! I had a clipboard that I had done nothing with yet. So I got into my scraps, and covered it, and then did calendar pages for January and February using scraps and my new "Mark the Date" stampset. I will stamp a checkmark on each day I do something with the scraps. For each scrap piece or embellishment that I use up, I give myself a 'tick' at the bottom of the page. Each tick is worth 5 cents. I have to completely use the piece I chose, in order to gain the tick- no making more, smaller scraps! At the end of the month I'll tally them up and see how much I'm allowing myself to spend on new consumables- paper, embellishments, etc.
I'm notoriously good at making plans and bad at carrying them out, so I'll see how this goes. But I have had it in my mind for some time that my scraps bin was getting way too full. I sorted it out into plastic zip bags too- one bag for neutrals, one for DP, one for strips, one for largish pieces, one for smaller bits and one for tags/embellishments etc.
I will share some of these with my friends, but I don't earn credit when I just give them to someone else. I have to use it up myself and be proud of what I make, in order to get my credits. No making junk.
I don't have to 'hide' or 'fool' myself, after all! This is just a way for me to stimulate myself to use my cardstock better.
I think I may get a money jar/envelope whatever. If I stick the $20 in there every time I earn it then...
1)It won't feel like such a big chunk out of my wallet if I spend most of it at once. (I'm planning on putting in a big SU! order the 1st of March. New catty, SAB & the Occasions Mini all at once!)
2)If I can only take money from the jar, its pretty hard to overspend.

I do like that money jar idea - I tend to cringe when I place and order and see what a chunk it is of my funds. If I only have the cash on hand to use it should slow me down (I'm awesome fast swiping a credit card!).
I am telling you, I love this thread! It is making me think about my spending and the time I spend creating. They haven't been in sync...ever! I think this will help me to spend more time creating and less time spending!

I love the money jar idea! It's a great way to actually give myself real credit for my creations! Thanks!

Well, I knew I wanted in but, I couldn't really decide how I wanted to figure up my budget or value for cards and pages created. I'm already a part of the 2008 Scrappin' Challenge which has to do with an allowance for projects created. So, exercise is one of my resolutions and something my doctor has been after me about for awhile. I'm allowing more of a financial reward that what most people would consider fair, however, I am a fibromyalgia sufferer and I haven't done physical exercise is years. So, this is going to take a huge effort on my part. I will be doing Leslie Sansone's In-Home Walking Program (if your familiar with her). Her workouts are about 20-minutes total from warm-up to cool-down and I am allowing myself a whopping $7.50 for every day that I do the walking workout and the goal is to workout 3 times a week. So please cheer me on as this is going to be pretty tough for me.;)

The money jar is a good idea. I'm also planning to put in a big SU! order on March 1 for the same reasons. :-D

Love that money jar idea. I, too, am placing a big SU! order on March 1 (that's the plan). For some reason, right now, I don't FEEL like buying anything, I have so much stuff already.
I made six scrapbook pages - takes a while, but it sure did feel GOOD! I scrapped my 14 yo DS's Boy Scout Awards Banquet from December! Woo Hoo! Did ya know he sometimes pulls out the scrapbooks, looks at them & reads the journaling? That's such an awesome feeling.
BTW - housecleaning IS Exercise, right?
pant pant
It's gotta be - I know how I feel after swiffering the hardwood floors.
pant pant
(oh dang - told on myself...now you'll know when I DO clean the house. :-D)

Well, now I might plan on a big order in March too! I didn't know about the other mini. I love all you inside-information people! I also love this thread. It really had me thinking this weekend. I was SOOOO tempted to pick up a few blank gift bags and some other stuff, but then I thought about those $$ and I didn't want to waste them. I stuck to 3 things in the Target $1 spot and that was it! Yay! I can't wait to do the idea about the $ in the jar too. Maybe that's what I will use my target mailbox for! I want to avoid putting any craft items on credit this year...thanks to you guys, I know I am in good company. SCS girls are the best!!

Exercise to Spend Goal: 20-minutes=$7.50
I have fibro, too. It's hard to get moving when you feel like screaming. Personally, I think $7.50 isn't enough!
I wish you the best of luck.

PS: I've bought that book and dvd but never used it. I'd love to know how it goes for you.
What is this mini that everyone has mentioned for March 1? I was going to do a big order Feb 1, but now I'm thinking I might have to put it off a month?
BTW, do double page layouts count as 2 or 1 for the challenge?
Love the money jar idea - I think there's enough room left on my craft table for it!
I made an anniversary card and some gift sets over the weekend....and then of course I had to order boxes to put the gift sets in...so I'm left with only about $3 to put in the jar....
Must get busy.....I need to place a SU order on Februrary 1 and then another one in March (I've only been a hobby demo since November 1 so I really don't have much cardstock) to meet minimums!!!!!!
I earned $40 so far, I made lots of cards and sb pages over the weekend. I went to ACMoore today and spent $0!! I am so proud of myself. I went looking for the photo boxes but they were not on sale so I gave a quick look and left! I even stuck to my list at Target and did not buy any extras! Now that is a huge accomplishment!

It was great to see that 1st $20 go into the account. I have plans to deposit more later today. ;) THank you for such a great incintive. I was worried about 5 LO's = $20, but it actually works out just about right. I've been using old Kit's and they are just above $20 cost, and I'm getting about 5 LO's out of them even though I'm a bulky scrapper.

Oh yeah, my mother needs a paint can to fill with lottery tickets for a birthday party on Friday, I will get that done today! I am going to be rich now if only someone would really pay me!

I went to Hallmark yesterday to buy some wrapping paper and I found this cute little jar that said scrapbooking fund on it. It was even on sale because I guess that they aren't selling well, so I scooped up one for myself and one for my mom. They are just perfect for this challenge. That was my gift to myself for 1 signing on to this challenge and 2 for the huge re-do I did in my stamp room. That was a huge feat in itself. As an extra added bonus and an extra incentive, I have been tossing in all my loose quarters. Everytime I break a dollar and I get change, I put the quarters int my jar an the rest in my daughters piggy bank, that why when I have earned, earned , earned my huge (gasp!!!!) March 1 SU order, I will have a little extra that won't come out of my checking account.
I'm going to check out my Hallmark store for these! I was thinking to use just a clear jar, but I didn't really want it to be clear!
Since I've been on vacation, I have been doing a lot! I cleaned up my spare room which is my craft/computer room. I love how it has come together and really has made me more productive. I need to finish altering some of my old SU shell cases that I am altering to hold office products (I've gone unmounted) and clean out the box that hold my scraps, then I'm really in a good place!

Oh, I changed mine from 15 cards to 20 cards giving $20. It makes the math easier and I really have a ton of stuff that needs to be used before I should do any shopping. Pray for me...I'm off to Michael's and Target today!!! Yikes!

I love the jar idea! I'd love to venture into my Hallmark but I'd better not - it's a danger zone for me!! I'll have to find something in my stash to alter. TFS!
