I make cards because it gives me something to do and I love seeing and trying new ideas and techniques, but one does accumulate a LOT of cards. I sell quite a few, just wondering what others do. Do you...

can't pick just one!
i make them for myself to give, i also give them as gifts for others to give and i occasionally sell them.
i'd like to find a way to sell more but i never have been looking to 'make money' at this. would be nice to be able to make a little to buy more supplies tho!
Well, at the moment I keep them all as I would like to eventually get in to doing lessons. I don't think my talents are quite strong enough to start just yet, but I'm hoping that some day soon.

I do them all! I sell a lot of cards in our retail store, my mother and her friends buy a lot of sets from me, and my sisters also commission me to make cards for them.
I both make them for myself and give them as gifts, but the gifting happens only a few times a year. I used to make tons when I was actively demoing because I would give a thank you card with each order. Now that I've stopped I noticed my cards were piling up so I joined the RAK group. It's so fun to send off a card I've made to another stamper as a suprise. I know they will appreciate the work that goes into them.

I make lots of cards that I give personally, but I love making cards and giving them as gifts. The recipients are so far always thrilled. Occasionally I sell some.

I make them to give out myself but also I make b-day and welcome cards for my MOMS Club for the moms and new members. That helps me unload cards that would otherwise be stacked up with no homes. :( Of course, I still have a bunch! I also donate some to the people who are collecting for the troops. So I guess that would put me in all the categories.
OK, so, I reread what I wrote. duh . . . I make two of everything is what I meant to say. I give them all way and I particularly enjoy RAKing . . . it just gives me an excuse to make something else lol

I answered that I ocassionally sell but actually, I give them as gifts sometimes and, I send birthday cards to my friends and family. For that, I keep a log.
I make tons of cards...for me to send and also as gifts. I make them through out the year then give the cards for birthdays, Christmas, Mother's Day, etc.
I make cards that I send out myself, but the majority I give as gifts. Any woman that I give a present to knows what she will get-- birthdays, mother's day, Christmas, teacher's presents, and anything else that comes along. I also keep some in sets ready to go for those times dh says "Do you have something that I can give ____ for her birthday today/tomorrow?"

I send them out for occasions and sometimes give as gifts. Used to make them for fun, but now I am having a hard time keeping up with the "occasions".... I want to make them for fun again- Mostly the SCS challenges were my fun ones.
I haven't given any as gifts yet, but I am making the little box holders so I can give them as gifts. I was going to do the dvd tins but I can't find any of the tins anymore. I have sold them a few times, not anything I would consider profitable...just some to a fwe friends who wanted to give them for Mom's day and things like that.

I do the first three choices. Most of them are given away, but I sell a few at our church bazaar at Christmas. I also used to keep a big stockpile of samples of everything I made, but now I just take a photo or post it here on SCS.
I sell a LOT of cards.... but I send a lot as well. I just wholeheartedly make tons and tons of cards as fast as I can! I seriously have made thousands, I'm sure. I sell 200-400 at a single fair... I love it!

I voted for "give them to others as gifts." I make non-matching sets of cards for all occasions to give my mom, sisters, SILs, etc. for their birthdays. I'm beginning to find reasons to make them to give on my own too. I want to stamp more than I *need* to. DH has asked me about selling cards, but I'm holding off because of the legal issues. I'm just so grateful for a hobby that I love!
I had a hard time choosing too. I do them all. I have to make them for myself, my mom, my sister, co-workers, and for gifts. I guess that just gives me more reasons to stamp!
I didn't click on the poll because, none of them actually "fit" what i do,
I create because i enjoy it, when i need a specific card for someone i do that, the ones i made for store displays or classes taught, and ones i made that just piled up i ended up putting into boxes and mailing to troops to mail back to their families.
figure i have enough supplies for the rest of my life (except cardstock and adhesive) so i can always make more cards.
hth,
I both make for myself to give, and I also give them as gifts. Haven't sold nor do I plan to sell any, only because the opportunity hasn't presented itself, and I haven't sough info on selling.
I make to give, and give selectively because even though my creations are definitely from the heart, I'm still struggling with technique. Thank goodness for SCS! This site is like taking daily one on one classes!

I give them out to others when I need to. I also have to say that if there technique cards I hoard them.

It's someone who buys stamps they didn't normally like at first, only to see it in Split Coast Stampers gallery in a different perspective.
I make cards mostly for myself but this year I am making a box with cards and stamps in it for my DIL as she said they don't have money to get cards. I join so many swaps and when someone likes something I made I send it to them so there isn't much of a stock here. I make all of my own Holiday Cards and haven't bought cards in years.
I run the card ministry at my church so I give them either to it or I make them for my MIL for her birthday or Christmas. She loves them and really appreciates them. I love being able to make as many as I want and actually have a place for them where people will appreciate them.
I clicked give them away as gifts only because I make several hundred cards a year for the troops and also make gift sets for friends for their birthdays and Christmas. I send out a little less than 200 a year (including Christmas), so the majority are given away. But I've never sold any and will likely only do so for charity (such as the church bazaar or preschool fundraiser). This is my hobby, not a business, and for me, if it were a business, I'd take it way too seriously to have as much fun as I'm having right now, LOL!
Most of the cards that I make are designed with a special person in mind. So it seems that I never get ahead. If I do get ahead a bit, then I find someone who needs a boost and send it on!
Well, I guess since I posted the thread and poll I will add my two cents. I make a lot of cards, usually just for something to do...I love creating and I LOVE trying new techniques and products. Therefore, I sell most of mine. I definitely don't consider it a business because basically everything I make just goes to buy more goodies. I take orders on some of the items I make, but then I do admit, it becomes work instead of fun. I do have one customer that has litterally bought hundreds of cards from me...I just email her whenever I have a *lot* that I think she might be interested in. Other than that it is mostly online sales. Anyhoo, just thought I would share.
