I am going to make my kids teachers purse tins with cards and dividers in them for end of the year gifts. my question is would it be rude to put on the last divider a little sticker that said " For refills and prices please call Ann Marie Lessner at blah blah" that way if they want more cards i could make them and sell them. i just dont know if that would be a nice thing or a self promotion thing. what do you think? i was thinking of only making like one card for each holiday but they may want 5 so then i will gladly make the other 4 but then they have to pay for it. i dont know what do you think? i would really like to start making and selling cards for a business.
see that is what i was starting to think i just wanted a another opinion and my dh said no that was fine but hey hes a man what does he know thanks ladies for the input
I understand where you're coming from with your idea. I spend sooo much on my stamping stuff, it would be nice to offset my costs with a few sales. Maybe you could just simply put down your name and e-mail. That's not really a blatant sales pitch, but if someone likes your work, they would know how to get a hold of you.

When I make a gift for someone I always include a small business size card that says...This gift was hand made expecially for you by.... That way the person who receives the gift knows it was hand made. It also lets them know if they are interested in purchasing more they know who to contact. I have had many people contact me after receiving a gift to see if I sell that item.
I agree....one thing that you could do is when it is given to them, mention that you were thinking of starting a little card making business - If they know of anyone that buy them you would greatly appreciate the refferals!
I don't think that it would be tasteless to add a business card. However, that said, as a teacher I always felt sort of obligated to purchase items made and sold by parents. I know. It was my choice. 'Just saying that you really just want to show appreciation and not refer obligation on the teachers.
I don't think you should mention the sales aspect at all. In fact, if it were me, I would tell her that if she ever needed a refill to call me and I would supply that as part of the gift.
I wouldn't try to sell in that regards to her but if you have a stamp to use on the back of each card or your demo return address label (i'm assuming here) like Hallmark does I think that would be the way to go.

I had the same feeling as these other ladies and did not include a business card or do anything to draw attention to the fact that I sell cards when I made card gift boxes as an end of the year present to my DD's teachers. I thought stamping Handstamped by Susan on the back would be enough. I had sent them cards for birthdays, get well, etc. through the year also. Boy was I surprised to receive a very nice thank you note saying that I always FIND the prettiest cards! Not only did my daughter not mention that I had made the cards, they thought they were store-bought! Just telling you this so you won't be disappointed if they don't realize you made them.
I am with the others that say don't put your business card in there, however, I would make an ATC card saying that this purse tin was handmade for you (name) by (your name and email).
This way you are letting the person know that it is handmade and maybe if they get the hint they will contact you.
I wouldn't do it. What I do is put a sticker with my name and phone number on the back of each card. I do this for all my orders. This way whoever gets the cards can reach me for orders, as well as the person who got the gift (or order) in the first place. This also finishes the cards off with my own signature, so to speak.

Ok, now how does all of this fit into the SU angel policy (if we are talking about SU images being used). I know that we're not allowed to sell from a fixed retail or internet location. Is it "legeal" to take orders in this way? I hope so!

You should maybe think about getting a stamp to stamp on the back of your projects. My freind has one that says, "This was hand crafted for you by (insert full name here)." Then on the next line she has her email address. She stamps this on everything. I don't think it's wrong to do that! It's just stamping your work with your "copyright"!

Yes it is legal. You are correct that it can't be a fixed location. I have had coworkers ask me to make special cards for them and what would I charge. One year my friend had an angel poem for her sisters for xmas and wanted cards with Angels on them. I know some ladies on here have put a box on their desk and people find out and come to buy. It must have the SU copyright stamp on the back though.

I think this is an excellent idea! I know as a cardmaker I always like it when the recipient realises I made the card for them myself. I also know that even using a "hand stamped by" stamp on the back, or signing my name to the back, rarely gets noticed by the recipient in my experience. So, including a pretty little note in the gift saying, "This gift was handcrafted just for you by Cards by Telulah" or just your name is fine imho! I've received gift baskets and heard of others who won gift baskets in raffles where the person or company who made the gift basket included a classy little card like this in the basket.
TY for starting this thread -- I think if I ever make a batch of cards to give to family I will include a little note like this in it too!
I say.. it doesn't hurt to drop a business card in the bottom or back. No mention of needing refills.. but it's good to put your digits in the hands of someone else.. ya never know. I don't think this would be rude, but I wouldn't put the refill note on it..

thank you for all of your ideas. i think i will drop a business card in saying handmade by Ann Marie. i always stamp the back of all of my cards and sign them with a little stamp from SU. i just wont put anything on it about refills. i will definately post when i get them done thanks again

Yes, indeed. I think we who make cards are so detail-oriented and notice things. Many people don't pay attention at all. I have had the same experience. I guess it is really a compliment if they think our cards are "store-bought" but it sure doesn't do anything for repeat business.
