Teacher Gifts

I'm curious what everyone is planning for end of year teacher gifts this year? I need to start working on projects for the Sunday school teachers who do such a great job with my son's under 3 class. I'm avoiding coaster boxes because I have that project planned for Christmas with the same teachers.

I'm considering some sort of coffee gift - altered frap bottles or a Starbucks carrier with goodies.

I wish I could help. I was thinking the same for my sons Pre-school teachers. I also have to make something for the princepal as we will be in a defferent school next year and she was just wonderful.

I'm considering a name frame for DS's preschool teacher. DD's 2nd grade teacher is harder to figure out. I know she loves Vera Bradley. I thought about using Polka Dots & Paisley for notecards or post-it holder or name frame, etc. in a VB style. Would love to hear some ideas from others.

How about this idea. I was thinking of doing this for our teachers. It's an adorable purse tote with notecards. You can fill them will blank notecards and they can use as thank you cards for all the gifts they receive or whatever.

I am a teacher and I can tell you, note cards and note pads (like post-it notes) are always a hit! You wouldn't believe how many notes (especially thank you's) we go through. A package of cards, a matching post it and maybe a matching pen is a great gift and generally not too expensive. Most teachers will be greatful that you thought of them! I will be making gifts for my parent helpers. What do parents like?? Any suggestions?

Name frames are a cute idea. Crayon kids on black cardstock with white craft ink to look like a chalkboard........hmmmm

I like the name plate - what does everyone think of doing that for a fourth grade teacher? The 4th grade is male and kindergarten is female - I think that a different color/paper scheme would work really well.

I can't wait to see what everyone else has in mind - this is the hardest thing to come up with.

I did do note cards for Christmas gift and it was a huge hit.

I am a 2nd grade teacher and all of the above sounds fantastic. The objects are so very appreciated, but so is the gift of your time and effort.

this is the kind of thing i have done in the past. i had received so many thank-yous from the teachers that i kinda figured they could use them! they were very well received!

my favorite gift as a parent was a school themed pencil holder (it had a little ivy in it for me to plant), altho i am not a teacher, i use it most every day- it is right here on my desk. i got it from one of THE best teachers.

I am making a coffee tumbler for my son's Male teacher. I scored at starbucks and got 18 of those decorate it yourself tumblers. I will also include some home made Almond Roca. Always a hit. My DD kindergarten teacher will get note cards, a beaded pen, and some candy as well. Have fun creating.

While note pads sound good, as do packages of cards with envelopes, I want to relay an experience I once had. We stopped at a garage sale and there was a long table set up.

There were numerous mugs, many said: To my favorite teacher, there were figurines, fancy hankies, all kinds of things you cannot use that many of. I know it wasn't nice of the teacher to sell those items so publicly, she could have donated them but obviously, they get so much stuff that this could happen.

Best to give nice consumables like greeting cards. Everyone can use those and notepads, ditto.

This year I am going to give the teachers a mug filled with 1 drink mixes, small bag of popcorn, and a certificate for a book. Along with the card I am going to make them bookmarks. I know most of this is storebought, but I figure the homemade bookmark will be a hit.

I am a teacher of middle school students and it is always nice just to have someone think of us. Over the years I have gotten many mugs. I have so many that they don't fit in the cabinet.
Even though I know how to make my own note cards, I would still love it if I got those from someone. The purse tote is SO cute. All of these ideas are great!

I am a 4th grade teacher and I just want to say that anything that is a sincere thank you and from the heart is awesome! The best gift of all is when a child says "thank you."
I, too, think post-it note holders or thank you cards are great gifts! I also love the name frames & clipboards. I go through quite a few thank you cards and I make my own for the kiddos, too. This year a made them as large tags and tied ribbons on them---the kids used them as book marks! I do need to make more b/c of teacher appreciation week is coming up.

I make something for my sons' teachers that isn't stamped, but is still cute. It really is only for women. I paint big flower pots for a deck or porch. I use my son's hand and acrylic paint and paint the same number of handprints as kids in the class. I then paint a child's name in the class on all the handprints. Around the top rim I paint Thanks for helping us grow in 2006-2007. They are cute, and the teachers seem to like them. I plant some annuals in them, so they look nice.

I stamped a card with House Mouse on it and I walked into my dd's classroom and noticed she had it laminated and framed next to the If you Give a Mouse a Cookie book. So now I try to give her cards that can go well with books. It is such a compliment to have someone who so appreciates your work!

I can't remember where I saw it. Seems like it was on the Fiskar website. I saw the cutest little mini album made from the Starbucks sleeves. This would be a cute addition to the Starbucks mugs/gifts!

I gave this gift to my son's teachers for years. This was a super hit and I was always asked for more and the recipe.
White Trash
1 small box graham cereal
1 bag of small pretzels
1 cup pecans
1 cup of raisins
1 pkg. white almond bark
Place first 4 ingredients in a large bowl. Melt almond bark in the microwave.
Pour over ingredients in the bowl. Turn with a large spoon until covered. Spread on waxed paper until dry. (about 30 minutes)

I would use my stamps to make a cute container to put the mix in. Everyone loves this mix. It makes enough you could give it to several teachers.

Johanna-- you are right! As a teacher for only 7 years, I have no room for any more mugs and figurines. Not to sound unappreciative-- my students and their families are very generous-- some of my favorite gifts are a free video rental from blockbuster or a Starbucks card...These wrapped in handmade gift card envies would be neat. I also love getting handmade cards-- I can appreciate the time someone else took to make them!

What a neat idea! You could even make the card and GIVE a matching book to the teacher! Hmm...I would have never thought of that!

In the past I've done notecards and I've done paint cans with "movie kits" inside (popcorn, candy, giftcard). I've also baked homemade cookies. This year I intend on writing a letter to have put in their personnel file in addition to whatever gift I end up doing. I know my son's kindergarten teacher is new and gets a lot of flak but I love her and my son is doing great. So I want something for her personnel file.

Thank you so much for thinking about writing a "nice" letter for a teacher's personnel file. In this day in age all we hear are complaints from parents and not the nice stuff. I'm lucky enough to have some great parents who tell me I'm doing a good job, but I wish one or two would take the time to let my principal know.

As a teacher, my most treasured gifts are hand written thankyou notes. I save these, even the ones on lined scribbler paper. If you wrote one in a hand made card, the card in itself would be a gift of love.

Your teachers must really appreciate your thoughtfulness.

I had the teacher's assistant to have the kids in my daughter's class to write their names on a piece of paper and then I scanned it along with the class photo and applied it to a candle. Today was the teacher's birthday so my daughter took it in this morning. She loved it.
