Default Patting myself on the back

OK, so last month I went to a whole weekend crop, brought virtually all my stuff. Unfortunately, in my "stuff" is all my ribbon...... I am ok admitting this now, but up until last night, my ribbon was in a giant plastic bag ( the one a comforter set comes in, with a zipper) and strung in some old ribbon, hanging on the wall. Nothing organized, as a matter of fact, 80% of my ribbon was in pieces of 2 yards or so and in baggies/or just loose, stuffed in a small ziplock! It wasn't pretty.
So the last 2 nights I sat in front of the tv with some little paper "bobbins"? I bought a few plastic boxes with these paper bobbins at AC moore, I think they were meant for embroidery floss....anyway, it took 6+ hours, cursing the whole time, but OMG!!!!!! I now have actual organized ribbon, it looks so pretty I don't wanna stop staring at it!!!! I also never realized how much ribbon of different sorts I had. If you haven't done this yet and are in deep ribbon denial, as I was......try it. You will be miserable for the length of time it takes to do, but the payoff is fabooooolous!!!!
(OK, now the sad part.....if I were a single gal with no babes, I would TOTALLY have this pic as my computer wallpaper!!!!!!!!!!!)

I applaud you for doing this...it looks fantastic. I have a very strong need to do something like this, but have been procratinating forever about it. Most of my ribbon is on the spools but just tossed into plastic shoe boxes somewhat separated by color and hard to know where something is. I will get this done soon. I saw the Cropper Hopper drawers and cards that some SCS use and I believe I need that size. They are somewhat pricey though, so maybe your way is best. Congratulations on a job well done.

LOL, actually, now that I can see what I have, I will SAVE some money by not duplicating all the time....I did actually get rid of a bunch as I went.

Default Wow....

I love this...you should be proud of yourself...its BEAUTIFUL! I wouldn't want to use it now...just stare at it. I don't have nearly as much "loose" ribbon as you...but I might do this with mine. Thanks for the inspiration!

I took ALL my ribbon (except SU - 25 yards is too much to unwind lol) off of the spools and bagged all my ribbons and fibers up in the small and medium craft ziploc bags (Walmart 99/100).

I punched holes in all the bags tops, and then put them on metal rings (the kids that you can easily open and shut) according to color.

I love it!
I can see all my fibers and ribbons at a glance, and they are organized by color - and are easy to get to but contained from the cats!

The best part?
They take up about 1/4 the space they were taking up!

Hit submit too quick ;)

Beautiful job organizing - I'll bet it took a long time, but will MORE than make up for it in ease of finding what you want! Pretty and functional~~

It os so worth the time if it helps you to find what you want. Your ribbon looks good. I wouldn't be able to stop staring either.

Great job. You have such awesome colors. I have mine on spools on a dowel poked thru a photobox from Michael's.

Default Me too

I can't believe this came up in a thread this week. I spent two days last week cleaning out my ribbon drawers. Most of mine are on the spools they come on. I have them in rows by color in my drawer. It is a deep drawer in an organizer. I made a second layer in the drawer by putting some of them in baskets from the dollar store. I now have two drawers of ribbon sorted by color with two layers. I can easily take the basket out and put it right on the work table.

That sounds like a cool deal, I can " rent" myself out for a few days of peace and quiet wrapping ribbons!

I didn't buy more than half of it....any time I was doing a trade....I'd ask for x # of feet of assorted ribbon instead....
