I was mystified by this for the longest time too!
When someone "bumps" a topic, it brings it back to the Current Conversations list.
For example, if you look under Current Conversations right now, there's a post titled "Please help me find the envelope card thing". That was originally posted a few days ago, got a couple of answers and then fell off the Current Conversations list due to lack of activity. When someone posted to it tonight, that post "bumped" it back into Current Conversations.
So someone will just write "bump" to get a topic current again.
