Thanks Kimberly for being encouraging. Michaels did run an ad so call the Gazette and complain that you didn't get it. There is a coupon in there. Sometimes they don't put the ad in the paper for certain areas of town???
I'll try to be more positive about work, just very frustrainting with the changes. Cool Godzilla card!!! Love the rice krispy airplane you did for valentines day too, very fun!
So still haven't heard anything if we can do the gathering at Michaels in the class room I'll let you know as soon as I can.
I called Archivers and was told that they do not "rent" out the workroom but that we could come and use the workroom free of charge. It's first come, first serve so I don't know how you feel about that and it also has to be at a time when they are not offering one of their classes or crops.
Also, I don't know how many people usually attend but when I lived in San Diego, we often used a room at the library or community center. I emailed the Briarsgate Library and this was her reply:
The Briargate branch has a very small room that can accommodate 10 people if they need tables which you would. Is your group that small? If so please contact our meeting room coordinator at 531-6333 to reserve the room.
Will the time work as well with the library, what are the weekend/evening hours? And only one other thing to point out regarding the library, I know they'll let groups use the room but they have an absoultely no sales policy. Just a heads up for those of you who would like to try and promote your business, I don't know how that would work if demos brought their catalogs for hopeful sales. The mom's club I use to be involved in had large gatherings in the large room for holiday events, it was very nice and lots of space.
I'm fairly new to Colorado Springs so I don't know this but do you have Community Centers? In San Diego we had community centers and you could rent out a room...since you already rent the room at Michael's, this my be a viable alternative. How many people normally attend the event so I know what size room I am looking for?
I'm not sure of community centers renting rooms... we maybe able to rent the room at the Swimming pools that are used for birthday partys but not sure if they do that and cost. Usually we have 5 to 10 at a gathering but could be more. The room at Michaels has been $10 an hour and we split that so it would be around $2 or $3 per person. Thanks for looking into this Kimberly.
Hey,
I did check with the assistant store manager at Michaels... at this time no rentals are able to take place. :( Sorry to everyone for this and hope you didn't make too many arrangements for this. Has anyone else have ideas or know for sure if we can rent anywhere else? I'm sorry again.
Mary

So there is another option...
Yeah, so maybe we could meet there? Has anyone made a reservation??? Do we want someone to be in charge of dates/times? Thanks so much CherryBlossom for looking into this.
Hi girls! Just popping in to say hello. After 120 or so days I finally had a FULL day off. I am on a four day pass. The first day was darn close to heaven! I have been sleeping, napping, watching movies on my laptop. It is nice!! I go back to work on Sunday. I am under 60 days...57 days!! YAY! I can't wait to come home!! I heard it is still snowing in COS. It is starting to get HOT here. I hope everyone is doing well!!!
Capucine,
Yeah... warm weather for you and home in a while. Great news. We did have a snow storm last weekend... but it warmed up nice the middle of this week, a bit chilly with the spring wind. I'm so excited that it's Spring time! I'm glad you have some leave and cannot wait to hear about your tour. Are you doing any stamping there? I must be tough to carry over a craft bag with you? Glad to hear from you.
Mary
Hi Mary! No, no stampin here. I didnt have room. I came with only essential items. I didn't even bring makeup!!! The most stampin I get is surfing on SCS, looking through the cattie that Kimberly sent me when I was going through withdrawls and the cards Joanne and Kimberly send me from the stamp club. I can't wait to stamp again!!!! Words cannot describe. Sometimes I think I really am an addict! :-)
Well Capucine, at least you have the cattie and you'll be full of ideas for when you get back and start creating again. Did you get to have a good few days off? I know I'm a Stamp addict, and out of control some/most of the time? ;) I hope the weather is still warm there for you.
Our kids hunted for Easter Eggs in the snow... glad they were colored ones or they'd miss them for sure.

We chickened out and hid the eggs in the basement! As it was, we didn't find them all. I keep finding more as I clean up the house! I don't know why it is but we always forget to *count* the eggs before we hide them and then we have NO idea if they've found them all. Oh well, maybe we will learn and count them next time.

Too funny, but very true. I don't know that the kids gotten all the eggs at our friends place either. There were six adults helping hide eggs on one acre of land... who knows if their all found and at least there all plastic so they won't smell an get gross in the heat of the days ahead. We took 60 eggs out there, I'm not sure how many eggs the other two families had but it was fun. Just look at it this way, a new wonderfully fun discovery everyday.
How is your eyes feeling Joanna? I hope your doing okay!
It is official! We will be moving to the Springs this summer! I am very excited! We are looking at school district 20 or 12; does anyone live in those areas? We just want to make sure the schools are good and the neighborhoods are safe and friendly. Any info is greatly appreciated and I can't wait to meet all of you!

I'm in District 20. My daughter starts Kindergarten next year but my sister's daughter completed her education within this district and has done very well. She just graduated from college and said that college (she graduated from CU in Boulder) was pretty easy because she was well prepared during her school years in District 20.

I taught for four years in district 12. It's a GREAT district. It's smaller than all the other districts (I knew the superintendent because he would come into my classroom often). The neighborhoods in that area are nice.
I have friends who live in district 20, but I don't have any teaching experience with it. When I first started looking for a job I definitely wanted to be hired there. It is one of the larger districts but teachers like it because they pay well. That's actually a good thing. Better pay means better teachers and schools.
Thanks Joanna! Any idea about how they deal with special needs kids? I have an autistic son who will be in high school when we arrive. We have heard great things about dist. 20, but wanted to check out 12 as well as it is closer to DH work (he will be at NORAD). We have talked to someone in dist. 20 about his autism and they seem to be eager to get him the services he needs; just wanted to keep our options open! Thanks again!

Hi Ladies...sorry I've been MIA! Was visiting back home in Rochester, NY. Had so much fun with our little guys. The kids are doing great; was wonderful being able to share Jonah's first bday and Easter with them. I'm back now and just finished catching up.
Why don't we just meet here at my place? I have the room and would love to have you all here. This way we don't have to worry about "renting" anything!! I have room for 10 but could make more spaces available. How does that sound to everyone? Just let me know if you are planning on attending on the 12th so I can have it ready for you!!
I need to get myself off the computer and ready for PT...talk to you all later!
PS Ann, I have a dear and close friend who is a principal at one of the District 20 elementary schools and she LOVES it! We both worked together in Harrison 2 and she is really pleased with the teachers, admin etc. Coming from District 2 it was a "pleasant" change. I've heard great things about 12 too!! So glad that you are joining us...let us know when you arrive!!
Hi Joanne,
Welcome home... glad to hear you had a great time with the kiddos. It's neat that you get to see them as often as you do. It's nice of you to host it again. Do you know what time you'll hold the gathering? I have to work on Sat. until 5:30 p.m. and Sun. until 6:30 p.m. most of the time, unless they call me in or having me stay later. Getting time off is next to impossible at this point. I couldn't even get part of the day off for my son's birthday. Work is a pleasure these days. :( Sorry for gripping. I'll see what time you hold the gathering and try and be there.
Thanks so much!
Mary
Hey Joanne, Sorry I've been a downer lately with Michaels... just frustrating to see so much change, and not sure its all for the best? I sure hope it is, and that these changes will be positive... don't get me wrong some of it is just so very frustrating as a employee to see so much waste, ugh! The things that had to be just tossed I just cringe. The good part is they are getting on everyone (mostly the slackers) about quality of workmanship... and getting the store clean and looking good... I'm all for that. I sure hope this will be a positive change all around.
So did you get to do any fun things with the grandkids while you were out visiting? I'm sure you had many friends/family members to catch up with. I know our trips to NV to visit family and friends is always quiet full and non stop.
Let me know what time you set up and I'll see if I can get away from work and have fun with you all. I need that.
Glad to hear the stamping is still on. Most anytime works for me on the 12th, but if I were to pick a time, I'd say sometime between 9am and 5pm. (I'd even be willing to do it in the evening as a second choice) Dana
Hey Ladies...How 'bout starting around 1:30 on the 12th? That would give us the whole afternoon. LMK by the 10th so that I can make sure that I have everything ready to go for you all...
Still doing a shoebox swap, right? Anything goes and NVR on supplies!
A shoebox swap is very simple! You plan a project (card, 3D etc), make a sample and then put in all of the supplies for as many people that will be attending in some kind of container (shoebox, tub, box etc) For example: if there are 6 people attending, you prep all of the supplies for your project for 6; it is much easier to have everything cut and ready to go so that it saves some time. We usually take turns going around the table and "sharing" our project and we all make it together. Does this make sense? If not, PM me and I'll give you my phone number and try to explain it further.
I won't be able to make it. Our weekends are pretty hectic. Grandma had a massive stroke in February so we try and get to see her on weekends and we're trying to get our yard all prepared to build a playset. I'd love to see everyone's creations!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOANNE! I know that ya'll are all at stamp slub...sniffle sniffle ...but I just wanted to stop in and wish you the BEST BIRTHDAY ANYONE COULD EVER HAVE! Hope ya'll have fun tonight...and make sure to have someone share their drama tonight for me!
