Foam core board---how to cut?

Can anyone tell me the best way to cut foam core board? I need to make a circle and not sure the best tool to do it with that will make the least amount of mess and give me the best cut.

Also, what type of adhesive would you recommend for gluing cardstock to the foam core? Liquid glue? Hot glue gun? Heat and stick powder?

Stupid 6th grade projects!!

I always cut foam core board with an X-acto knife with a sharp, never-been-used-before blade. Making straight cuts is difficult, good luck with a circle! Try to do a practice area, to get a feel for how it cuts.

Any kind of glue for paper should work to glue cardstock to the foamcore, since the faces of the foamcore are made of paper.

Just like Alice, I use an Xacto knife. For gluing, I bought foam core glue a few years ago that worked really well with things that were fine, like sand, but I use some Aileen's special tacky glue for hard to glue items now. They are both pretty thick glues. Hope that helps.

I don't really have any advice for cutting the circle but I have found that when cutting a straight line to only cut one "layer" at a time. By that I mean, on the first cut just go through the poster board and a tiny bit of the center. Then go over that same cut and cut a little deeper. It usually takes three passes over the same cut line to get a nice smooth edge. Hope that makes sense. It's kind of hard to explain.

I've used a heat tool, the kind that is for woodburning, but used a knife insert rather than the usual point.

It sounds like getting a cheapie pizza pan and modifying that would be easier than cutting foam core board into a circle. Or you could cut posterboard into a circle and use a square of foam core board on the backside to reinforce it. Just some ideas out of the blue, as it sounds like a change in plans might make your life a lot easier!
