Default Dry Ink Pads

I have read a couple of threads here where people were looking for the commotion dry ink pads to make their own. They are on sale for $1 this week at Addicted to Rubber Stamping. They are having a huge $1 sale. here is the link for the pads.

Which did you choose? The Felt, Decor, or Excelsor?

I got the felt (comotion) and Decor for the foams.
10 of each and I might have to go back for another 20?

Cool

Got my dry stamp pads. Inked, and inked them....almost 3/4 of the bottle. Still not feeling like I really have saturated the pad, and not getting the greatest images....sort of spotty, as much as I try to distribute evenly.....only Me?

The Comotion ones are identical to the old style SU pads. It takes one and a quarter bottles to ink well enough that the edges won't turn up. Very well made pads and all of my pads with SU colors are these. I buy 2 reinkers at time and have been very happy. You can also buy blank markers in the Tombow style and make your own markers with the reinker too.

Ok, dumb question. If you buy the blank stamp and 2 reinkers, that would be more $ than just buying a new pad. Am I missing something? Do you just prefer the style of the pad?

For me I purchased the dry pads because I have all the old style pads and just couldn't justify buying the new ones when they came out two years ago. Plus I have a very small stamping area (a walk-in closet), so space is limited. I like keeping all my pads the same size for storage purposes, and this solved my problem. I have to add that I do own some stampin' spots as well, and love them too!

Cool

Ok. So if it takes 2 reinkers and the commontion dry pad, there is no money savings....great.

Actually, you're getting more for your money because you'll have almost a whole reinker left. If you just buy the SU pad, you still have to purchase a reinker at some point.

I used one full re-inker and I am getting plenty of ink on my stamp to make good impressions. I am going to order another reinker of each color though. I do this because I feel the new pads bend a bit in the middle making it harder for me to get color evenly over my entire stamp. It very well could be user error but I just find that the smaller ink pads are easier to use.

The reasons I do this is because the smaller pads fit better in my holder. I think the smaller pads ink better because they don't get the big dip in the center and the sides don't fray like the big pads. I don't like pinching my fingers in the big pads and I was forever dropping the big pads while fighting to open them. The big pads take a LOT more ink to reink and end up being more costly for that reason. I figure with the $1 pads and just over a bottle of ink, I get a pad for around $3.75 and then also have the rest of the reinker to keep it wet. I also think the smaller pads fit my hand better and I get more ink on the stamp because of it.

So one could make markers in the "In Color" colors? I don't know much about the Tombow style markers. Are they similar to SU! markers? How much of a re-inker does it take to make a marker? Where do you get the blank markers?

TIA!

Nope - not user error at all. It's just the design of the new pads. I always have trouble inking up my stamps when I'm over at my demo's house and using her pads. They do dip in the middle. I am just thankful that I got all the colors in the old style pads and now I have the new colors using the comotion pads and reinkers. It's wonderful. Plus all my SU pads are the same size and fit in the same holder. I only had to use one reinker per pad also. I guess it depends on how juicy you like your pads. But one seems to do it for me. Maybe a few drops of a 2nd reinker.... I hope to never have to have the new style pads. They just frustrate me to no end and wish SU would switch back to the old style

I had never heard if folks doing this. I mean I knew tou could make your own pad....like if I wanted a custom pad with multiple colors (like the spectrum)...but I had no idea folks were still trying to duplicate the old style pads. I have all the old pads (some retired) and then all the new colors in new pads (plus RR). My campers don't seem to mind either pad type, but I was thinking, man, I really need to get all the new pads. I had no idea folks liked them better. I find that my older ones fray a bit more than the new ones, and the edges turn up. I know what you mean about the new ones dipping, but it hasn't been an issue for me...I'm a tapper - I tap my stamps like 3-4 times on the ink pad before I stamp, so I've not had the problem.

This is very interesting!

I like the old SU stamp pads too; for the very same reason. I hate the dip in the middle of the new pads and how careful I have to be to make sure my stamp is inked before putting stamp to paper. I bought the felt pads and reinkers for the new colors. Last year I only bought the SU stampin spots of the new colors.

Now I know it takes most of the reinker on the dry Commotion pad, and sometimes a bit from a second reinker. I was only putting only about 1/2 of one reinker....Will add more today, and see how it goes....
I do like the surface of the pad. It is nice and firm. And, you are right, if the pad is smaller, in the end, you will use less reinker ink.....ok....thanks for all input!

Oh darn, I was so excited when I saw this post about the $1 Comotion dry pads but the sale is definitely over - the home page now lists them for $4.48 each. Does anyone familiar with Addicted To Rubber Stamping happen to know how often they repeat a particular sale? (If they even do.) I'd love to catch this one again someday and stock up.

I too prefer the old style pads and have most of the regular colors but want to add a few of the newer colors. And for me, not only is storage an issue (the older style take up less room), and the sagging middles of the newer styles (I've experienced this at stamp camps), but also, I have difficulties opening them up. I guess I'm basically a klutz (or maybe just too impatient to actually make sure that both hands are available when opening them) but the couple that I do have frequently come apart on me when I use them. (OK, I guess that confirms the klutz theory.) Anyhow, I LOVE the clam style ones!!

By the way, forgot to mention...if I can't find a great sale on the uninked pads like this one appears to have been ($1 pads), I've also had success with washing out an old pad (any brand) and reinking when it's dry. I try to pick one in the same color family.

Also - when Hobby Lobby has their stamping stuff half off, I've picked up the little embossing kit which has a small bottle of embossing ink and an uninked felt pad - can't remember the brand. I have no use for the embossing liquid (unless someone here can tell me one) but getting that uninked pad in the kit for $2.50 still isn't a bad deal in my books! And, I've had luck inking up a pad with as little as 3/4 of a bottle, and haven't experienced any problems yet...interesting.

I bought 55 of the pads over that weekend!

Some for chalk inks and some for pigment/dye inks! If, for any reason I have any left when I get done, I'll post them. Not sure if I over bought or not!

Just a lot cheaper to buy re-inkers and make your own, the size I want, than to pay for ones I do not want.

I have and they work great!

I made my own Dove Blender fluid, I touch the fine tip of the Blender Pens (I have TomBow, Le Plumme II and Dove, several of each) and use them to write or color. When I am done, I wipe off the excess on a paper towel and drop a drop or two of the blender fluid to *rinse out* the excess color.

I use one for darks, one for lights and it helps. They work really well on the brush tip end also!

Anyone know if this dry pad/reinker system works for the metallic inks as well?

Question Cut N Dry Stamp Pad Felt

Has anyone used the Cut N Dry Stamp Pad Felt by Ranger to make ink pads? They come in 8"x10" sheets.

http://www.stampin.com/online/accs/pads2.htm

I read somewhere that someone made 80 1"x1" ink spots with one sheet, inked them with reinkers, and then stored them in sealed ziplock bags of similar size.

I was thinking of creating bigger pads (2.5" x 2.5"). This would probably require 1 bottle of reinker and would be easier to ink a larger stamp than the ink spots.

Can someone foresee problems with this idea? Thanks for your input!

I did this with my dried out blender pens (that never worked to start with), they colors run wonderfully through the pen. You can see a picture of stuff I did using the new markers here:

btw, I made mine to be permanant markers, as you can read in my description, I don't use the blender pen fluid, I actually put ink all the way through the pen.

Yes ma'am... but you have no case for this after you cut it to the desired size so i store it in Ziploc baggies...

oh and i had no idea about the commotion pads but, you can get a totally blank pad ( same as the old style su ones) at Blockhead stamps for 2.99 a pad.

So its a little cheaper then the regular price at atrs.
