Default How do *you* determine color combinations?

I am so curious about this! Lately, I find myself noticing colors more in everyday life. It could be a pretty print or color on a garment, or even a melamine plate! Oftentimes, I'll think to myself in passing, "Hmm....that would look pretty on a card..." but then when it is time to stamp...I forget! Anyone have any tips on how to keep track of what colors you like?

I usually end up looking through the gallery for color ideas...and at the online color combinations...and I was curious as to how many of you use the color wheel? I have only seen it used a few times, and it seems so handy.

Thoughts?

If I'm avoiding using a color, I'll look at the color challenges here. They always have good ideas for using colors that I didn't otherwise like. For example, I didn't think I liked bravo burgundy. There was a color challenge using bravo burgundy, pretty in pink, and always artichoke. Now, I'm sold.

I do have the color wheel and use it on occasion. Most of the time, I just gravitate towards what I feel like using at the time, though.

I usually try the color combo challenge (on Tuesday's) to help me break from my norm. But normally when I am making a card I start with the feel that I want the card to have - happy card = bright colors, etc.

I've started doing the color challenges as well, because there are lots of colors I *never* use. I don't have the color wheel, but I do use Laura's color combo web site a LOT

http://homepage.a5.com/~laura/colorcombo/index.php

I used to think I was good at combining colors, but there are lots of times I'm completely stuck!!

I use my colour wheel almost all the time. It helps me out.

I use my color coach all of the time. The only time I won't use it is if I am doing the color challenge on SCS. The color coach is a very useful tool.

Cheers!

I flip through my magazines and catlogs before I toss them. The ad men and desiginers there are paid to created combos that are eye pleasing and attention getting. Just tear out the page and file.
