My long-time friend (friends since 1st grade) is completing her studies to be a nurse practitioner. I feel kinda out of the loop in her life at times b/c she is so busy and we live 2 hours apart, but just like an old friend we can pick up where we left off. I want to make something special for her. I was wondering if you ladies could help me figure out what type of things I could put in a paint can or some other creative ideas. A little about her: she is 31, has two kids, has been a nurse for 10 years-worked in a dr. office, operating room and now works in quality control for hospital. She will begin work for a doctor (ear, nose, and throat dr.) as a nurse practitioner in the fall.

a nurses survival kit (do a web search for "survival kit" and take some ideas from there...some sites may actually have ideas specifically geared towards nurses or medical professionals).
or
a relaxation can (because she deserves it after all her hard work) That could be a can filled with bath goodies...maybe a book and some chocolates or coffee/tea if she drinks it?

any suggestions for what to put inside a paint can for a bridal shower BUT it's an 'around the clock' shower and the 'time' I'm assigned is 12 am - so my gift should be something she can use at that time....

For the 12 am shower, I would say that is time for body lotions, massage oil, lingerie etc. I guess you would have to know her well enough to buy that kind of stuff. Don't to forget the tylenol or aspirin--you know for the 12a times when you have a headache.

I work with many NP's and think the relaxation can is SO the way to go, sounds like your friend will have her hands full with kids and the new job,all the NP's I've worked with had to do the "On Call" thing too wich would be stressfull as you get the odd hour calls and emergencys.
What a good friend you are to do this for her.

Or how about an eye mask/sleeping mask for getting some shut eye? Flash light in case you need to find something in the middle of the night?
