TLC840~ Sanded Embossing~ {03/29/2021}
Hello. It's my turn to host the TLC this week and I have a fun and easy challenge for you.
We will call it
TLC840; Sanded Embossing
So, how many of you out there have got a bin like I do, filled with inked or painted backgrounds that just didn't work out for a card or a layout?
I want you to take a look through that bin and pick out one that works then place it into an embossing folder and run it through your die cutting machine to dry emboss it.
If you don't already have an inked background on hand, make one with paint or inks and then do the above step.
After the piece is embossed, take it and lightly sand off the front of your embossed/ raised area revealing the colour of the cardstock. Don't rub too hard or you will tear your cardstock. By sanding, you remove the high points of your inked panel. You could even die cut, emboss the pieces and sand those if you choose not to use it for your bkg.
If you don't have any sandpaper on hand, try using an emery board that you would use for your nails. You will be amazed at how you can transform an ugly panel into a lovely background all ready for making a card.
Now add whatever makes you happy and create a card.
Be sure to add the keyword TLC840 to your card so it will be added to the gallery.
The TLC 840 gallery can be found here.
The card I created for the challenge is called
Wee One
I hope you will come and play along with us.

What a fun technique, thank you! For today's sanded embossing and Sea Creatures challenges- I used a dotted embossed background, colored with watercolor pencils and moistened with my aqua painter. Ran my fingernail over the surface to expose the underlying cardstock. Fussy cut my 3 walruses, adding my sea scene and my sentiment. Here's Walrus trio HB

Loved doing this, Karen - it's a great way to use up some background pieces. I'll definitely do it again. Here's my card:

Thank you, Karen - this was fun when I finally got time to try it out. I've sanded DP before, and cardstock, but probably not my own backgrounds.

Great technique to help my discarded background actually make it to a card! Thank you!
