I mailed some to Iraq to be distributed to the troops to send home to friends and family. I sent some to other charity auctions. I'm selling some to raise funds for my Relay for Life team. I send them out as RAKS to people who need a lift. Just hope that the hobby that brings me such joy might brighten the day of another.

I had thought about sending to Iraq and Keiki's (sp?), but most of my cards don't seem like they would work for those situations. I think I will start making my cards so that I can send them to organizations like those or use as RAKs. Good ideas!
My mom and I are thinking of taking the cards that don't work in these situations and making complimentary (same set/color theme) cards and making a set of 4 and selling at a craft fair that is near her house in Novemeber.

I really need to learn what words to use when searching. I did a search before I posted this, but wasn't sure what to search for so it was fruitless. This time I searched for donating cards and came up with this thread: Forums at Splitcoaststampers
which has a bunch of great organizations to which I can send my cards.
Yeah! Now I just need to sit down and make all my fronts into cards.
I put together assortments--they don't have to be complementary colors or designs--a get-well, a variety of birthday cards, an anniversary card, some thank yous, etc. Package them in a paint can or something cute and call it an emergency card kit. They make great (and useful) teacher gifts & birthday gifts for my friends. My SILs and mom all expect to get one at Christmas and/or birthdays now and look forward to them.
I also have a missionary friend that I have always given stationery to--even before I was stamping. Missionaries have to keep up with a ton of correspondence. I usually send her stamps with them. (She's in the US) That way it helps her even more.
Another thing I do, is try to remember birthdays and tell people I appreciate them when they aren't expecting it. For example, sending thank yous to all the board members of an organization I am a member of, just to tell them I appreciate them serving the organization. I guess you could call them RAKs, but I don't use the SCS list. I just send them to people I know--sometimes even former teachers and people from my past.
I also have an idea that I haven't done yet. Choose a non-profit organization that you would like to support. The one I am thinking of is an equestrian center for the handicapped. So, I figure everyone that goes in and out of that place likes horses at least a little bit. They have employees, volunteers, clients, and parents of clients through there everyday. I'm going to make up a basket of about 30 horse cards. Put them in clear bags w/envelope and see if the organization is interested in selling the cards and keeping what they make. You could do this with any organization, just try to target an interest (golf, sports, whatever) if you can so the cards will be more unique. The organization will probably give you a tax deductible receipt if the cards sell. You could also do this with a school mascot to support the PTO--using school colors, etc. For scouts you could do outdoor themes, patriotic themes, and eagles for those eagle scouts.
