I started the daunting task of unmounting all my stamps and started putting them on EZ mount, yesterday. Then I was wondering, what if some day down the road I don't like having them unmounted. Just curious if anyone out there wishes they hadn't unmounted their stamps and why.

When I unmounted I kept all of my blocks and boxes....juuuuusssstttt in case I changed my mind. The space savings keeps talking me out of remounting them all tho!!! more space=more stamp sets!
No! I have never regretted it for one moment! I have almost 400 stamps sets in 5 photo snap boxes! Just think of all the other goodies I can have because of all the room I saved!
No to mention the ease in stamping! You can see where you are placing you image!

Nope, I have never regretted it. I LOVE having all my stamps unmounted. It is so much easier for me to store, organize, and actually see what stamp sets I am reaching for. Did I already say that I LOVE having my sets unmounted??
Thanks so much for everyone's input. I didn't think I'd regret it but it made me wonder what if I did? I'm looking forward to more space that's for certain!
Holy Cow!! .. NEVER!! I've just finished stamping all of my unmounted rubbah into a book to have an *at hand reference* of all of them. It was very time consuming as I made notations of stamp company, when retired, # in ea. set, etc. I made a separate section for each CD. Anyway, after all that stampin', I pulled out my few Hot Potatoes stamps, which I will never unmount, to reference too. (I iron them on velvet.) It was like going back to the tricycle!! :( Very frustrating to say the least. I was so glad to get that few stamped and realized how happy I was that I don't have to ever do that again! The streamlined ease of stamping with unmounted rubbah is my JOY!!!

Stormy, are you aware that you can heat emboss with ANY rubber stamp? There's nothing different about Hot Potatoes' stamps. Well, except that now they're the only mounted ones in your collection that is, lol...
But any solid image works just great with ironing on velvet. Rubber stamps are made in 400+ degree processes...a little ol' iron won't hurt any of 'em.

It doesn't even need to be a solid image- just slightly thicker lines. TAC Samples by Skittl1321 at Splitcoaststampers This is a line stamp I usually use for coloring in and it works great. (It's a TAC unmounted stamp, btw- I think unmounted works better for velvet, cause it's easier to hold the iron on). I think the real issue is that you get good velvet
No regrets here either. I love the space savings. My only word of advice is - don't try to unmount them all at once. I spread the unmounting process of my several hundred sets over several months. It wasn't too bad that way. And for motivation I kept looking at that huge stack of plastic SU boxes vs. that small stack of CD cases!
Do you think that Stampin Up! will ever catch onto this and start offering unmounted stamps...maybe even offering them unmounted w/E-Z Mount already on them? I think maybe I'd be more inclined to buy from them if I didn't need all that space to store.
One more question...what is TAC? I'm newer to stamping and all the different companies and options out there. I assumed it's a stamping company but wasn't sure.
I unmounted some non SU stamps a few years ago and regretted it.
I wasn't using them so I thought I'd save space and be able to justify keeping them. I didn't save that much space since they were loose stamps that I kept in a basket and then I realized I wasn't using them b/c it was hard to match them up with other smaller stamps (like you would get in a set). Some of the foam was hard to get off the back (but they were all AC Moore/Michaels/Joanns stamps). If I remember correctly there was one type of foam that was messy and tough to get off, I think it was the black but it's been a while.
I understand the space savings for sets but I dont get the "see exactly where's you're stamping thing". With my clear sets I can, since I can see through the stamp but unmounted rubber is no easier to line up for me than mounted since I can't see the paper through the stamp and I lay my stamps on my grid paper to make sure they're staight when I mount them and I can look under the edge of the wood block if it's something that has to be in a certain place. I use my SAMJ for tight places.
There was another woman on here I think, who unmounted all her SU sets and then regretted it so she went and repurchashed them all again. Maybe start with a few and then wait a few months to see how you feel and if you're using them more or less. Thankfully that's what I did so I never touched my SU sets.
I've done about half of mine and luv it! I saved my wood blocks just in case I did regret it, I could just stick them back on the blocks...but I don't see that happening as I see no negatives!
I actually do regret it. Now I am looking for wood blocks to RE-mount them. I only have a few that I unmounted before I realized that I didn't like it as much, so that is good. I just think it is a personal preference - like anything else ;-)

What don't you like about them? I'm asking because maybe it's something I'm not thinking of. Is it the way they stamp? Just curious and trying to cover my bases before I fully commit to un-mounting my stamps.
Thank you, MSBetsyZ and Skittl1321 for all the info about stampin' on velvet. Skittl, I love that pin!! Thanks for the 'how-to'. Yes, I knew any good solid/semi-solid rubber stamp could be used. I've just had the worry that the EZMount might melt or that the cling part be ruined. I surely do not want to go thru re-unmounting. ;) I never thought about ironing on nekkid rubbah, that should be lots easier than trying to stay perched atop that wood block!!
Jennifer, I apologize for the 'highjack'! (Insert JulieHRR's bowing smilie.) It wasn't intentional. Hopefully, this info gave you more to think about.

Thanks so much. I've never heard of it, must not be too big here in Ohio. I'll have to google them.
BTW...your avatar is sooooooo adorable! What a beautiful little baby!
Tonya,
I'll save you a step The website is www.theangelcompany.net We have a brand new catalog that should be up on websites by Monday.
To the OP, I haven't had the time or the courage :( to unmount all my wood mounted stamps. Maybe someday... that said, about 90% of the stamps I buy are unmounted. I'm having a harder time working with wood mounts b/c I feel like I can't see! I never have to use my stamp-a-ma-jig with unmounteds.

I have mounted a couple of SU sets on ez mount (polka dots and petals, the petals wheel, whimsical alphabet and doodle alphabet) and while I like it a lot for the alphabet.... personally, I prefer the "feel" of wood/rubber. I think partially since I need to buy more acrylic blocks. I don't know.. I guess I'm a little old fashion.
That being said, I like some of the new TAC stuff and other unmounted companies and would STILL buy them. I just would be less likely to unmount SU unless I really felt it would help.

I just don't think they hold up as well. In all honestly, though, I am a teacher and my 3rd graders use my stamps for projects (mom's day, christmas, etc) so that may have something to do with it. I have several stamps that are separating from the ez mount and it just kind of irritates me ;-) I have a ton of friends who will only use unmounted stamps and love the storage options, etc. I think it is just a personal preference. HTH!
My only regret is that I didn't unmount sooner! I think I have about 3 more SU sets to unmount (2 are alphas... I'm not looking forward to it). I still have quite a few odds and ends stamps to unmount, but I don't use those stamps much anyway, so they can wait.
I stamp on the back of my EZ mount (the clingy side), so that also aids in placement of the stamp. I cut my rubber VERY close, so placement is just about as easy as using a clear stamp. With wood I'm clumsy and crooked or had to go through the extra steps of a Stampamajig. Now it's perfect every time and sooo much easier!
I did it for the ease of stamping, but the space savings is a huge bonus.
