Default faux stitching -- you gotta see it

OK, I probably saw it in the Dirty Dozen gallery and didn't even know it (I'm not so good at reading ;) ). But I was cruising the gallery just now and there are some awesome cards with faux stitching -- they look so real!!!

Here is a link to a search for faux stitching:

Amazing!!!

I got a card in a swap yesterday with the faux stitching in plum, and I thought it was real!

Oooh, thanks so much for the link. I wanted to see some samples of faux stitching yesterday but didn't get a chance to do a search on it. Thanks again.

With a gel pen and the paper piercer (basically a big needle to punch the holes).

You can also use a push pin and a mouse pad to poke the holes.

I found out today that any thin marker looks like thread. I used the SU real red marker on pink pixie paper for a valentines card and it so looks like real stitching! Yeah.

I used the SU paper piercing template and the other stuff that comes in the crafter's tool kit to get the holes to line up perfectly.

Yeah! Another new thing to try.

Two other ways to get evenly spaced holes, plastic canvas, and the top of an SU invoice. Hey I think a page torn out of a spiral notebook would work too.

Faux Stitching:

Take the layer of cs you want stitching on and punch holes all the way around using the paper piercing tool and template from the crafters tool kit (or a fat needle and something to make the whole spaced evenly.) Then draw a line with the white gel pen from the hole to the edge of the cs. After that, carefully edge around the entire cs with the white gel pen. That’s it! Let me know if you need more explanation!

Faux stitching RULES!

I must add that I think the gel pen looks more like thread than, say, using a marker.

The gel pen actually sits on top of your paper and you can feel it when you run your finger over the top. To me, a regular marker looks to flat.

BTW, this is to get the blanket stitch look.

For just a stitched look you simply "connect the dots" going around the edge.

Cool! I have been doing faux stitching and ribbon on scrapbook pages for years but never thought of using it on my cards until I saw one of LunarLana's cards a while back (hers may have been stickers even.....what fun!!!
OH and I have to agree that Gel Pens seem to look better!!

Emily thanks for the directions, I have been admiring your cards in the gallery and actually thought you really stictched them. Your faux stitched cards are beautiful.
