I'm happy to report that I found something that works like a charm!!! Sharpie oil paint markers! The coverage is smooth and even, it dries reasonably fast, and the end product looks immensely better...

If you have a Dollar Tree store in your area, check out the 10" paper trimmers! They work great, and even come with an extra blade! For a buck, you can't go wrong!
