Snaps- how use them?

Hi,

I have some snaps, but I have difficulty applying them. I used the eyelet setter, but the pointer keeps damaging the top (flat part) of the snap. Any advice?

I am having a tough time with stamp alignment. I see there is a tool in the SU catalog for this (stamp-a-majig), but are there other tricks to keep the stamps straight?
