Swamp coolers work well here in the desert but they are not really a substitute for good ol' A/C! But my room is in the basement so I have the opposite problem in the winter....

No, kitchen came with the house, so they are standard 36" and since he doesn't do the cooking, they wouldn't be custom anyway. I'm leaning toward 36" because I do often craft at the kitchen counter...
