post-it tape like mentioned above, or frog masking tape, the yellow one, it's for delicate surfaces. I use it all the time on cardstock without any problems.

for me the promarkers were not cheaper, it was about the same cost and i did not like the nibs nor the size of the barrel.

you don't use a craft knife with a light box unless it is a glass one and you actually want to cut the image.
most use the light box and brass stencils for dry embossing, and you will need a stylus...
