I use YES glue. Got it at Michael's, it's in a white and blue plastic jar.
I did sand the tin lightly first though. It also works well on wood.

I would just cut another piece of rubyred...

I would just cut another piece of rubyred cardstock to fit the side of the card where the stitches show and glue it on top.
