Thank you for the help ... but I must be missing something literally and figuratively because this piece alone won't do anything. The two metal pieces do come together but they are both outdented......

I'm thinking the rubber is in the inside of the punch in order to emboss as you cut in one pressing motion. I have a MS elephant punch like that and its awesome. Love it.
