Margot, I always store bristle-side up. I store them in plastic holders made for Ikea's bygel rails.I rarely use acrylic paints any more; if I do, it's for dry brushing and I use cheap brushes.

I would try adding a very small amount of corn starch to a small amount of glue, and going from there. If your glue has been stored under cold conditions, you may not be able to revive it.
