Welcome to the second monthly technique challenge! This month I thought we would try to use stencils on our layouts. You can use them anyway you like but the challenge is to use a stencil in some way!
I hope you try the challenge, and come back here and link your creation
Don't forget the keyword for this challenge is TECH20APR Keyword for this month's scrapbook challenge is sbc20APR Our April Technique Gallery: TECH20APR. There will be something there as soon as one of you complete a page and upload it using the keyword.
I loved using stencils and stencil paste. I made christmas cards one year that way. I would bet though that my paste is probably dried up by now (if I could find it). I've got a whole container of brass stencils that could be used for dry embossing as well.
Great! Looks like we have some players. Remember, you can use inks, paints, sprays, and other mediums other than paste with your stencils. And, you can make your own stencils, by die cutting or punching shapes on card stock or paper, then using that to apply ink. You can use stencils on your gel plates. So many options!
Sharon, I’ve nearly finished my pages for this challenge, I nearly had a disaster, I had finished the photos etc then decided to do the stencil part, I wanted blue paste to match the page, shook the blue paint and the cap was slightly open, my hands were covered but luckily only one spot on the page, the rest on my glass mat!!
Since I ordered some stencils and plain texture paste and am waiting for them to arrive in the mail, I decided to do some research about coloring texture paste to use with my stencils. Lots of the tutorials explain how to use distress ink (I only have two colors of this) to color texture paste, but I was excited to find a SCS tutorial that explains how to use reinker (of which I have a lot) to color the paste! I may end up doing two layouts for this challenge, one using the plain white paste with a stencil, and one using the stuff I have colored. I always forget SCS has this huge library of tutorials, so glad I stumbled across this one!
Cheryl, I have used re inkers before to colour the paste but the chalk paints worked really well and didn’t loosen the paste too much as it’s thicker, plus that was the best colour match for my page, I have a lot of paperartsy chalk paints I must admit!
A couple of my pastes have dried up and one went mouldy!!

I used a stencil on my layout but didn't quite get the layout finished, so I will try to complete it today and get it posted. Are you planning to post another challenge by tomorrow for National Scrapbook Day?
Finally got mine done - twice! For the Homecoming Dance Layout, I used a stencil and embossing paste to add some dots around the large photo on the left page. I think I may be hooked on this technique! For the Batter Up layout, I used the same stencil and sponged ink on my layout.
