Red face April Scrappin' and Chatter - sbc19apr

Scrappin' Challenge 2019 Can you believe this is our 11th year of Scrappin' Goal Challenge?! We sure completed an AWESOME number of pages together in 2009 through 2018 and I'm looking forward to MORE Scrap pages together in 2019! Let's keep scrappin'.

It was SO fun to chat about and see everyone's pages, goals and ideas for completing LOTS of scrapbook pages in 2019! Many had a common theme - get more pages done, use what's in our stash, meet new scrapping friends, plan time/crops...

What fun we'll have sharing ideas, cheering success, keeping the motivation and making new friends. Our scrap goal isn't all about getting pages done, it's also about enjoying the process! Please feel free to join at any time!

Here's the CHALLENGE. Each person can share their page goals, pages and ideas. for those of use who like Annual Goals, we will have a better shot at meeting our yearly goal if we break it down by month.

*In this thread, we track our monthly goals. We find it helps us keep getting pages done which is good for all of us.

You choose your own scrapbook page goal and monthly spend goal. You may select 2, 3, 5, 50 pages....you choose. The idea is to be flexible so if you know you're going to be really busy, you can reduce the number one month or if you're going to a couple crops or scrap weekends, up the number. This also works for the budget. Each month, you can change your goals depending on your calendar!

The whole goal of the challenge is to get lots of pages done all the while enjoying sharing with Virtual Friends.

Are you UP for the CHALLENGE?
Come and Play in the 2019 Scrapbook Challenge! Here's to Meeting our Scrapping Goals & Meeting New Friends!

We'd love to "oohh" and "aahh" over your pages so please post with key word "sbc19apr"

Hi Lela, I liked your post at the end of March. You ladies always make sense. Thank you.

I won't be joining in this month as we leave this weekend but I will be following you all when I can.

I just learnt that I have won the March Misti challenge...wow didn't expect that and I will never again say that as I'm based in Oz I won't win. Today has proven how incorrect I was. I am very happy and it's made my day and I look forward to shopping as I so wanted the corners....and magnets...and maybe this chickie will look at the bigger Misti or smaller one...LOL.

Happy scrapping everyone and I will be back in May with more photos LOL. I still have 4 packs sitting on my craft desk that I had printed in March.

Sending a group hug...I'm giving them out today and you ladies definitely get one (((xo)))

March goal exceeded I got 30 pages done. YTD is 71. Set April goal at 15.

Lela and Sharon ... YOU really rocked March...that is fantastic!

Jayne....I so agree with everyone else about what Jayne addresses with feeling bad when she doesn’t meet her goals. it’s very much a season of memory making or memory taking and in Oz right now you are busy MAKING! Travel, family, stories of your poppets we all enjoy your input and miss you when you are gone. It’s not about what you can get done. Besides, I do believe this is a time when your weather is nicer, correct? We are just now coming out of a long yucky winter which for me will increase my making memories time and lessen my scrap time. O go enjoy life whether it’s with paper and paste or people and laughs...we really truly only get one crack at it!

My YTD - 43 Goal for April - 15

I ended up not really playing along with the March challenge, but I did scrapbook 9 layouts, so almost hit my goal. I plan to get back on board with chatting and sharing this month, so please put me down for 10 layouts again. YTD is 29.

Default March/April rundown

I got 37 pages done in March.
YTD is 121
Goal for April will be 30. I don't know if I will reach it. It's time to get back into baby pages and I need to scrap my 7th baby's birth story. She had a lot of problems prenatally and I'm not sure what to say or write about it. I want to be realistic about what I went through with her diagnosis of Down Syndrome and subsequent health problems, but looking back I can see that my reactions were controlled by my fears. I can't measure the joy she brings me now, but the fears were very real at the time. Has anyone else ever scrapped something that was just a hard story to tell?

First of all, way to go on completing 37 pages in March! I get excited over finishing 10 layouts, so that's a great accomplishment.

I wanted to respond about scrapping the hard stuff. I am way behind in my scrapping (just got to June 2014), and this means I am just now reaching the point where I will start scrapping about the two foster kids we took into our family and eventually were able to adopt. I know my journaling now will be colored by how everything turned out and what a hard journey our road to adoption proved to be. That said, I have a few things written down (a couple journal entries and some e-mails and letters) from when the kids were first placed with us, so I have some references to what I experienced and felt at the time. I'm just going to do my best to document what I remember, how I remember it, and not worry too much about it. In our modern culture, we tend to want to show our best side and hide the messy parts, but it's the hard times that make us stronger and get us to the next happy place, KWIM? Plus it might be a little therapeutic to go back through the memories now that your daughter is older and is a joy to you. BTW, I think there will be lots of hidden journaling on my layouts about the foster kids, so don't hesitate to take that approach if you don't feel up to sharing what you've written outside your family.

You ladies all blew me away with the pages you completed in March!!!

Cheryl makes some valid points about journaling. Hidden journaling is a terrific way to go, we all know life is much harder than the "image" we tend to show the public. What we do "in the moment" may not be our best selves but it can be a valuable learning moment for the next time!

(((Amy))) - thank you. Yes it was our summer from December - February. We are now in Autumn but the weather is still lovely.

Andy, everything Cheryl has said I second. She hit the nail on the head when she said that in our culture we tend to show the best side and hide the messy one.

When we were having some issues with one of our boys many years ago the only consolation I found was in my scrapbooking. I found it so therapeutic and it reminded me of the little boy he was and the man he had grown into...the good times rather than focusing on what was happening at the time and how it affected us and him. When I gave him the albums he loved them although I had not focused on the bad times we had all gone through.

It's a different story to yours and I agree with Cheryl, you may find it therapeutic also to scrap from her birth and until now and do some hidden journalling. I kept a journal on the advice of my counsellor and that helped me to put things into perspective and I didn't share my thoughts with anyone. The journal has since been destroyed as I felt that my son or others didn't need to know how I felt at that time but just writing it down helped me tremendously. Now it is all in the past and different.

We all have fears from time to time and that is what makes us stronger by facing them and having the courage to go forward. Keep enjoying your little girl and keep making lots of memories with her.

(((Group Hug))). Enjoy your day everyone

Wow! A lot of chatting already!

It is interesting to follow what you all are saying. Another issue for me, is I am so far behind,(90s) and even early (2000s) )that some of my photos are not revelent anymore! People I hardly can remember who they are, Christmas photos from church we attended 15 years ago, in fact a lot of occasions at that church. I will give myself permission to not scrap them. What I may do is one collage LO of when we attendeded there, because we did attend for nine years. But most of the people, I no longer have contact with.

for March completed 38 12x12 and 5 5x7 pages primarily due to Lela’s March Madness and attending a 4 day scrap retreat.
So I am 52 of 100 YTD

April Goal is 10. (I don’t think I can keep up the March pace!) LOL

Heart Inspiration FOUND!

I LOVE You Scrap Sisters! Have I told you that recently?!

Some of you I've scrapped all 11 years with. I feel like you've watched my kids grow up, move out and me transition to "empty nest" scrapping ... haha!

I have scrapped "tough stuff", I'm getting better in my scrapbooks telling the "Life Stories". I don't get too much caught up in the "it has to be this way" because I'm the Author of my scrapbooks and I get to include the stories that I want to include. My books reflect me and I love that. When I look back, some feelings on some events have changed but I choose the parts I want to remember. I do start out with some journaling now that says, "at the time, I felt ..." then I add, "Looking back, I see ..."

Talking Happy Dance

I'm SUPER EXCITED because LOAD (LayOut A Day) in February and March Madness has helped me finish my current Scrapbook (January 2019 -- March 2019) ....how crazy is that?!

I have all but 2 pages done and in the album ... the 2 pages are laying on my desk partially completed ... It feels fun to have a current album done

I'm playing along with the #100DayProject ... starts today. Anyone else?

I've done this "partially" the last 2 years and I've done scrap projects but this year I'm going to do cards. I want to get better at "sharing the love" with my family and friends. I send out cards weekly to the support groups I signed up for but realized I don't often share with my family ... I need to do better

Have NO FEAR though .... I'll be scrapping! Headed to a 4 day retreat with some scrappy friends next week

Sharon M I have a couple of boxes of unscrapped photos from late 90's and beginning of 2000 that I will not likely scrap now. I scrapped plenty of those old photos, but don't have the heart to pitch them. I have already started, and will continue, to put them in smaller boxes. I have one for my DD, Leia and one for her mother. They may want to browse those photos some day. I will leave the albums I made during that time as they are, and now, over the past years, they will have the pages I've made to enjoy my labor of love.

Lela, that is an excellent phrase starter for journaling!

Hi ladies! Good to see everyone weighing in to help others think through the process of scrapping the hard stuff or even skipping some of the irrelevant stuff. At the end of the day, we have preserved way more information about our lives than the regular folk did at any other point in history, so it's all good, right?

On another note, the April Variety Challenge is up. Couldn't wait for Friday to post it - LOL! Enjoy.

Well done, Joyce Ann! I haven’t started yet. I cleaned up my room so I could make some cards. I can’t seem to do both at the same time, scrap, and card making , that is

I hope I have this right:
These are two pages I just did for my 8x8 album of our Christmas trees over the years. I used a photocopy of a page from my Mom's log book (like a daily journal). It is for the challenge to use journalling.

Two more from me this evening.
I'm working on the plan to keep it simple and get it done.

I had my postings backwards around. Thanks Cheryl (Motherload).

HI all. I'm returning to my scrap booking. I've spent several years doing another hobby of mine ( and yes, it is going to be scrap booked!) Anyway, I thought it might help me if I joined in some group activities. It seems there are not near as many groups/ threads here on split coast as there used to be.But I have always liked it here, I enjoy challenges and being inspired by the work of others. I am going to start out with simple and reachable goals... To scrap at least once a week, to continue sorting my photos, to do at least two pages in four albums of the many I have started
1. 12/12 family album
2. 8/8Christmas trees over the years
3. Newly started 6/6 inchies swaps
4. 11/14 pocket album about my miniatures
5. 12/12 multi media personal growth

Ignore my previous post - I've deleted it.
I too often have called the jaguar a leopard! Didn't catch it until after posted.
I've re-done the title and uploaded the new photo.

Joyce Ann, check your journaling, too. There's still a leopard lurking in it!

Just wanted to share with you ladies. The mailman just dropped off my CTMH order (thanks, Lela!), and I was so jazzed, I made my husband watch the unboxing. He was totally bored but I had to have someone share the excitement as I did my Vanna White imitation on every stamp set and paper pack - LOL!

Thanks Sharon...see you all early May or before if I get chance.

Cheryl, enjoy your new goodies.

I'm packed and ready...even travelling lighter this time. Sharon you would be impressed. Oh that reminds me, I must take a photo for scrapping LOL. I'm taking my travellers journal and pens/pencils/washi tape...hope to use it properly as I end up not having enough time in the day.

Happy scrapping everyone

Good Morning Everyone...

I am setting here with some spare time on my hands. Normally I would be getting everything ready for my Rotary meeting today, but I resigned from all the drama and chaos last week and I feel so peacefully liberated. One can only handle so much negativity before there is a noticeable difference in one's christian attitude!.... ?YES?

My work desk today is filled with some family heritage stuff. So excited to find new "old" family photos.

I had an epiphany today that I wanted to share. So back when we got a digital camera, we started taking hundreds of pictures at every event because we knew we wouldn’t have to print them all. Then I ended up being in the difficult position of deciding which of the 50 adorable pictures of my child in the same pose I would use on my scrapbook pages - LOL! Fast forward to the age of the smart phone, and my use of the digital camera dropped off sharply. Since I am five years behind in my scrapbooking, I only recently realized the quality of these pictures is pretty bad once you try to print them out. So, I’ve decided to let my hubby continue to take tons of pictures on his cell phone to post on Facebook, while I take 10 to 15 high quality photos on my digital camera to scrapbook. Now everybody’s happy. Win-win!
