Took this last week after it snowed (again!). Looked out back & there were 6 deer munching on the shrubs. Looked like mom & 5 young ones of varying ages.

Taken through the blinds on nieces back door. Funny squirrel will stretch as far as needed to get to the bird seed!

I can't say I blame him when I see all that snow!! I invested in good squirrel-proof feeders because here they weren't just taking the food, they were wrecking the actual feeders too. We get highly entertained when a new squirrel on the block is discovering firsthand that he can't get at the food.

Thanks for sharing.

I saw some YouTube videos where they attach a slinky to the pole. Hilarious watching the squirrel jump on the slinky and ten it slinks down the pole and drops him off. I tink my niece bought a new feeder too because the last one I saw there was broken around the edges.

I didn't know they had actually succeeded in making squirrel proof feeders. I remember my aunt doing battle with the squirrels when she was feeding the birds. She would get so frustrated with them!

Bird Feeders~The Nuttery Bird Feeders. These are the ones I have bought, and they really do work. The most the squirrels can do is swing them to shake food out, and that appears to take more energy than the outcome is worth. And because they're coated wire and metal, they can't chew them up as they do the plastic ones. I got one for our pastor's wife; they live just across the road from a park and she had given up feeding the birds because within half an hour of putting food out, the squirrels would have eaten it all. She was delighted to be able to invite the birds back.

We had exceptionally heavy snow a couple of weeks ago - just about the last of the shovelled piles have melted now. Here's a thrush in our back garden - all fluffed out against the cold, and the remains of a snowman in a neighbour's garden.

It's been a while since I posted any pics. These are just some flowers that started blooming in the yard. Since we just moved here in Dec, I didn't really know what was here & what would bloom. So far, there's a LOT of blooming shrubs & trees. There are also some weeping cherry trees, another kind of cherry, apple & peach trees. I also found a large grape vine coming back. These are some of the rhododendrons, azalea, tulip, etc. There are a bunch of white azalea bushes but most of them bloomed last week then we had a hard freeze & the blooms died The last pic is the stream behind our house.

They're still in the garage, Vicki. We usually wait until the temps stay above the mid 40's at night before we take them out. Then they usually bloom around July or Aug. Their growing season is a little shorter here.

Yeah they love the sun so I guess their dormant with your winter temp their. But I’m so happy that you are managing to keep them alive and even more so have them grow And blooming there but they sure are so worth it... now you need other colors too. Like the one in my avatar

here they are in the garage. Dormant for now. We'll probably take them out soon. We've still had nights in the upper 30's so I want it to be a bit warmer.

I think these are cranes of some kind. There was also a blue heron, but I didn't get his picture. There were at least five of these white cranes.

How beautiful, Kathy. Brings back memories of the first time I saw a flock of egrets grazing in corn stubble in southern France. Your landscape is totally different...and lets the white birds stand out much better.

Kathy, they may be white herons, or egrets. I just love seeing these birds, and their flight is so beautiful. I have a photo of a blue heron from July. I'll see if I can find it.

I really love living in the mountains. Here's the view a few miles from our house. We stopped at one of the many scenic overlooks. Just one view of the Blue Ridge Mtns in GA.

So beautiful Julie. I have an interesting photo. When I first saw thison my dictamnus plant, I thought it was bird droppings. Ther were 3 on a small plant and the leaves were almost strippeed off. When I went to remove them, they were alive! This pne is on my larger plant, and there are many more. The big plant will survive, but I am not sure of the smaller one. Turns out. It is a swallowtail butterfly caterpillar. Who knew? Many varieties of butterflies and bees in my garden this year.

I hear you, Ina! Since moving, we have a whole new set of problem bugs & weeds. I have one potted hibiscus..it's one of the big saucer types that only bloom once. Japanese beetles stripped it bare! Next year I'll have to plant a bunch of geraniums. They love to munch on the leaves, but it's poisonous to them. My other hibiscus was eaten by squirrels. One squirrel, really. He developed a taste for it & I couldn't keep him away.

I'm trying to figure out what this plant is. It is so soft and when the wind blows, it floats off like dandelion but these are four feet tall and growing in the field next to me. I've never seen them before this year.

this looks like what we use to call thistles as when bloom had purple, orange, or red but then the white fluffy piece, but I have some growing now--I did not plant and looks just like the part here before the white parts---the white had like black seeds inside and as kids we pulled them out ---calling them santa clauses---not sure why--- and the let them go in the breeze as are light so they just fly away in the wind---let me know if you find they are called
