UPDATE!! PRAYER/CARD REQUEST FOR MY MOM and BROTHER TOO!!

UPDATE: 10-29-07

Hello Everyone,

Your prayers are desperately needed!!!!

Something very disturbing has happened this past week. My younger brother Schuyler who is 12 was admitted to Children's Hospital psychiatric unit. He just started middle school this year and it has been a very difficult transition. He has been struggling with the anxiety of that as well as the worry of my mom's health. We discovered he has been cutting himself too. I think the home life is really starting to fall apart without my mom as the "rock". My heart is breaking as I type this. I'm feeling rather helpless as far as what I can do to make things better. Your cards ahave always been such a ray of sunshine in my family's life. So here I am asking you to send him a card if you can...but mostly your prayers would be so helpful. See post #71 for a picture of my precious brother!

Thanks so much,
Lindsay

Hello,

My name is Lindsay and I am 28 years old. My SCS name is chaikitty. About 6 months ago my mom, Vicki, who is 53 years young, was diagnosed with CML which is a rare type of Leukemia. She has begun chemotherapy but has not responded well to the treatment thus far. She is also diabetic, so her doctors are running blood tests to see if she is having an absorption problem related to the diabetes. She recently (within the last two weeks) lost her job due to side affects from the chemo preventing her from being productive (is that legal?!?!). It would be an understatement to say that things have been very stressful for her lately.

Anyway, if the drug's poor results are not related to her diabetes it means she is resistant to this drug, and the next step is a stem cell transplant (formerly known as bone marrow transplant.)

Although she is steadfast in her faith and always puts forward a strong face, I know she is probably terrified inside, as am I.

If you could find it in your heart and busy schedule to send her a card I know it would just make her day! This is the first card request I have ever posted...so I'm not sure how it works. But I've responded to a few and I guess some helpful information I can offer to guide you is that she loves anything spiritually related, she absloutely adores chickens as she grew up near a farm on Whidbey Island, and her favorite color is purple.

Vicki Schepman

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I know it will bring her some much needed smiles! I greatly appreciate your prayers as well.

Love and blessings,
Lindsay

Hi Lindsay
I would love to send your dear mom a card. I'm a mom who has a Lindsay too.
You are very sweet to do this for her.

My card will be going postal Friday!

My mom's name is also Vicki, and my 2 year old is named Lindsay... It's almost 2 am, but I thought that was interesting...

Thanks so much, Heather. That is quite a coincidence about the names...especially the "ay" spelling of my name.

Hi Lindsay,
I just finished a card for your mom. It will go out tomorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. I know it's a very difficult time. I just lost my dad to esphogus cancer in January. Just remember...it's ok to have "PLOM" (poor lil' ole' me) (as we called them) moments.
Take-Care,
Tanya

Thank you Carol and Shonna and bless you!!! I'm dying to hear if she's received anything, but I don't want to ask, KWIM?!?!
To Tanya-- my mom has been laying low and trying to rest. She has begun a stronger dosage of chemo and it has been taking alot out of her. The results of her blood test showed that she had a lower than usual level of the drug in her blood for the amount she was taking. Her doctor increased her dosage with hopes she would respond better.
The main symptom she has is sweating that is pretty intense. She goes from dry to dripping wet like she just got out of the shower in about 2 minutes. I try to help her anyway I can by bringing her water and towels, but she thinks it embarrasses others when it happens! I told her that nobody is embarrassed, just concerned for her comfort. It's hard for her to go anywhere since the sweats have no rhyme or reason to their appearance. The oncolosgist that she sees in Portland says that the biggest sign of her remission will be when the sweating subsides.
Her siblings (4) and children ( 4 including me) have all done HLA typing to see who might be a match for the stem cell transplant, and the samples have been sent to a lab on the east coast for analysis. She's lucky to have a big pool to choose from so hopefully someone will match up.

Thanks again for all the prayers and cards! I believe that prayer, good thoughts, and uplifting messages have incredible healing powers. Please, keep them coming!

Love and blessings to you all,
Lindsay

I talked to my mom today and she was so surprised to get the first few cards! She had no idea what was going on. She was very tickled to see where everything was coming from. She also said that each one was so beautiful and thoughtful. I told her all about SCS and she is dying to get on here to thank each of you herself.
I know she treasures your cards, and also knowing you are thinking of her means so much to both of us.
I can't wait to visit her so I can see what everyone made.
I'll keep you posted on how she is doing.

I have the perfect card for your mom!! Will send it out first thing tomorrow, however, I could deliver it to her in about 5 minutes... I live very close to her! (I won't, was just surprised how close she is to me).

I can't believe you live that close...wow! She will be surprised in a very different way from your card. I think it is special to get things from far away, but i never considered the unique possibility of her getting something from so close to home. It warms my heart to know that people near and far have such kind and caring souls. Thanks, Heather!

UPDATE:

Things were looking up last week when we got the results from my Mom's WBC (white blood cell) count...her numbers went from 18,000 to 15,000 which is the lowest she has been in six months. Normal is about 5,000-10,000. This was attributed to her increased dosage of Gleevec (chemo drug).

The bad news is that this week she was up to around 20,000. That is the highest she has ever been. The ups and downs are killing me. We have no idea what could have caused this sudden spike but keep praying, please.

I never realized what fickle things WBC are. Your mom's is skyrocketing, while my close friend recently told me hers is plummeting. I'll send your mom and card along with prayers of health and wellness. Our God is still a God of miracles, hallelujah!

she was getting more blood tests done yesterday and I don't know how long it will take for those results. She told me what she's been diagnosed with (one thing), they keep trying to figure out if she has Lupus or not, and she's also got some kind of ovarian issues. They had to put her on steroids to boost her WBC but that then breaks down her immune system (I think I got that right...) so then doing her needed surgery is a really bad idea. She's had a rough time. She usually seems to feel ok, just her insides are all messed up.
