Default *Updated* Soldiers Overseas Well Loved... Thanks

Hi everyone. I got an e-mail from my hubby who is overseas and he asked me to ask my friends if anyone would be willing to send a cards, care package, etc to a couple of the soldiers that he works with. He has been there since January and works in the mail room part of the time and these 2 individuals have not gotten ANY mail from friends and family but come daily looking in hopes there is something.
Please PM me if you are interested and I will give you their name and addresses. Thanks for helping if you can.

Edited to add: There are 4 individuals not 2. I have the addresses squared away now and will be sending out PM's.

About once a week I am getting new addresses. Things as simple as a card are appreciated. Thanks to all those who have sent stuff.

UPDATED JUNE 13TH: This project is now put on hold. I have had over 50 inquiries and would like to let those be filled and add new names in a couple of months. Thanks again to all those who have responded.

I sent you a PM.
But I just wanted to say that your hubby is very sweet and generous for thinking of a fellow soldier and taking the time to do his version of a RAK even while being away from his home and family. He will be blessed a million times over for his kind heart.

Looking again at the addresses he sent it is a little confusing. I am hoping that he is going to call me here in a little bit and if he does I will confirm them for sure. Please don't send anything quite yet and let me verify the addresses.

Thanks for all your willingness to help.

Hello... when you get the addy confirmed could you please send it to me also... these 2 guys will now be getting more mail then the'll know what to do with. My brother is overseas serving and though we send emails once a month he says he still loves our "packages and cards" the most. It gives him something to "touch home with" as he says. So please send me the address and I will see what I can do... [email protected]

Have you (or your hubby) heard of anysoldier.com? It's a great site and he could be the contact person and get mail/packages for others in his unit. Just a thought. I like that you can search for certain values and mail directly to them. For example on my Dad's birthday (he passed away this past August) I wanted to do something special in his memory. So I searched by his last name and sent some packages to another soldier (my Dad was in WWII) with the same last name.

Will you PM me the addy's as well. I would love to help. I know when my DH was over there the only thing that kept him going was getting letters and cards. Ecspecially when he got them from strangers who just wanted to say thanks. It breaks my heart to think that there are soldiers out there who don't get anything.

Some ideas for the care package could include but not limited to:
snack items: cup of noodles, gum, individually packed candy (they have sugar ants so send these type of items sparingly), trail mix

games and activities: playing cards, books, puzzles, stuff to help celebrate upcoming events (they like to have fun and cut loose so something to help make those occassions fun; ie. Hats, plastic jewelry, noise makers), handheld games

sanitary things: wet wipes, toothbrushes, floss, fingernail clippers, nail files, combs (small for men bigger for female), hair pins and ties, deodorant, chapstick

things that could be used in the office; desk calendars, photo frames, maybe decorated pens, cutesy notebook, stationary, shaped sticky notes (or post it notes with covers)

misc: lightweight scarfs to cover their hair and face. (to help to block out the aroma and dirt in the air), air fresheners (no aerosol), fabric softener sheets

More information on these individuals:
Parker- race-white, older lady,
Cook- race- black, runner, athletic
Green- race- black, athletic,
Lopez-race- hispanic, bald

new soldier; same address as others
PFC Vogland, Garrett - race- white, 18 years, 1st duty assignment

GREAT IDEA LADIES>. I work for Conair Corporation..(like in hair dryers) we make so many personal care products that I can get for $1.00 or less.. ranging from trimmers, to brushes to hair ties to mirrors etc... I can send a pakcage of goodies to your husband to distribute.. I already purchased a few items for the care package I am sendin to the 5 soldiers... and spent 20 on enough stuff for all 5.. so 4 a person and each package will contain several items.. you can't beat it!!

My DH was in Iraq so I have no clue how much help I will be as far as care package ideas. I know that I would send Hard Candy in a zip lock so that he could store them away from ants and stuff. He would take these with him while he was on duty to keep his mouth moist. If you have little kids let them write letters to the troops and draw pictures and stuff. The troops love that kind of thing. I know my DH got packages through adopt-a-soldier and he really cherished the drawings from the little ones. My friends husband got socks and stuff like that which was nice because they get dirty and you can only wash them over there so much before the stink and durt doesn't come out anymore. depending on if the soldier has a DVD player/TV in their room which I know most in DH's unit did then DVD's are a good thing. It helps them pass the time. Other then that and what cookscrapstamp put I can't think of much else but I will post here if I can. I can talk to DH and see what all he and his fellow soldiers got and liked.

Honestly I am not sure it matters what you send though, I think just contact to the outside world helps. Just knowing that yes what they are doing is appreciated makes a whole world of difference. I know a lot of what DH heard about back home (through the media) is a lot of anti-war protests and stuff and it made them feel like nobody back here cared. So just even a card or a letter will do loads to lift their spirits. Thanks cookscrapstamp for doing this. I will talk to DH when he gets home tonight. I know he will want to help with packages and stuff.

Jessica, WOW! It is nice to have connections! I know that my hubby cuts his own hair and I wonder if the other guys out there do too..

Irene, he would be very happy to distribute products to the other soldiers if you wanted to do that. They have a community table where they put things out to share and stuff like that. I also know of another lady who's hubby is in Iraq and I can ask if he would like to do the same if anyone one is interested in sending stuff that way too.

Sharon- You are right. A package, card, note from the homefront in and of itself is a morale booster!

thanks again guys. Your response has been overwhelming, in a good way!

Excellent, what is your hubby's address? My husband is an online game/movie distributor. I will go through his stash and get some games and movies and send them to your hubby.

YuRee,
I just got your PM and replied but I would also like a few of those addresses if you could send some my way! It's free for me to send packages over there because I'm already oversea's and use a MPS (military postal service). I send packages out to my hubby weekly so what's a few more for those who need a little cheer? Shoot the addy's my way when you get them confirmed!!

Can you pm me the addresses, too please? My baby brother and a cousin were there at the beginning of the war, so I'd like to be able to do something for these soldiers, too who have to be there now. Thanks for thinking of them!

I have another soldier to add to the list if anyone wants it. I just found out my 22 cousin got stationed over in Kuwait too and is having a hard time too.

Please PM me if you would like his address also. Trying to "share the love" here too.

I'd like to help out... I grew up with my dad in the service, so I understand and stand up for our service people. Please count me in too... And, could you put the sexes and/or anything else that you know about them with the info so that I can do things accordingly? Thanks...
