Default Another Misti Cleaning Question

I love my Misti. However I managed to smear some Stazon ink on the cover. I used the Novus cleaner almost immediately, but it barely touched it. Is there anything else I can try that's safe for the cover?

I got some Novis #2 that I use to clean my Misti and follow it with the #1 .
But I do have to admit before I had cleaner #2, I used rubbing Alcohol followed immediately with water soaked rag and then the Novis # 1 cleaner. My Misti was fine. But I'm
Not recommending that method.

What ever you do, don't use Stazon cleaner on the MISTI!

What do you use to get the ink off after it's dry? I don't care how abusive it is to the Misti - mine is cracked at the corners and the lid is getting loose so I'm not concerned about babying it any more. Is there a way to get black ink off the lid after it's dry?

Have you contacted the maker? You can contact her through SCS or her website.

since you don't care i use odorless mineral spirits (OMS) followed by homemade stamp cleaner. I've never had good luck with novus cleaner and polish to remove ink unless it was dye ink.

Also I sealed the cracks around the edges with super glue and it sealed the cracks.

Thank you so much. This worked perfectly. All the black ink came off with the rubbing alcohol and I can see through the lid again.

I should let you know, I wound up using Stay-on stamp cleaner. It's alcohol based, you can smell it, but so far nothing bad has happened.

The thing that has worked for me to remove dark Stazon ink is to rub the edge of a light grey Stazon pad over the inky spots. I can wipe the grey ink away while it's still wet, and it revives and removes the black too. Whatever stays on the acrylic from the grey is light enough to not show.

StazOn cleaner has harsh chemicals that will eventually cause small cracks in the acrylic. You should not use any harsh chemicals (alcohol, Windex, etc.) on acrylic. This also applies to your acrylic stamping blocks. This is what happened to my blocks. It took a couple of years but the block finally cracked into several pieces.

Thanks for answering, I did not see this question until now. I can't believe your block actually cracked into pieces.

I have a favorite Close to my heart acrylic block that is my absolute favorite of all my blocks. Has nice rounded edges, so easy to hold. It is completely riddled with cracks because of stazon cleaner.

Years ago that is what we used stazon ink and stazon cleaner. Until we all found out what stazon does to acrylic blocks. I still have favorite stamps by Penny Black and Whipper Snapper still completely stained from stazon ink.

Default Cleaning inside of MISTI

I've been using one of those white eraser cleaning pads (dry) to get off black ink and embossing ink from the inside of the cover. It also works great on black ink if you use the "mouse pad" inside the MISTI.

If you are talking about mr clean erasers, these are very abrasive and may/will scratch your acrylic misti cover.

I think there is a warning on the package to use rubber gloves when using this product.

Wow! I didn't know all that, thank you! I have used my bottle of Staz-on cleaner on my Misti, but I did follow it with a heavy spray of water and a wipe, the same thing I do to my stamps and blocks if I use that cleaner. I started doing that because I can't stand the smell of the cleaner.

However, next trip into my craft room and it goes into the trash. Thank you for letting me know about this.

Can you use alcohol free baby wipes like we use on our stamps to clean them. I was told in a scrapbook store that I could use what I use to clean my stamps, when making enquiries about a misti.

It depends on which Mr. Clean eraser - they have a few. The original white one without rough side or embedded soap is gentle. You can use that type to take fingerprints off of painted walls, for example, and wall paint can be easily scratched. (I used to give a pack to clients.)

Other Mr. Clean erasers are harsher, like you point out.

That said, I don't know if they'd work or would be safe on acrylic.

Will the novus 2 cleaner remove permanent adhesive as well? I accidentally used permanent instead of removable!

Novus 1 is a cleaner/polisher for plastics. Novus 2 and 3 are for removing fine or heavy scratches in plastic. Here's some info about them: https://www.novuspolish.com

My understanding from the manufacturer info with my MISTI was to use Simple Green cleaner. I don't have any tho but my MISTI is getting pretty grungy.

When the MISTI first came out I contacted sweet petunia either through SCS or on her website. I asked her directly if I could use simple green, her exact response was "use at you own risk".

So what has changed with the manufacturing that sweet petunia now says it is ok to use simple green????

I am very interested in the answer to this question.

I wonder if you could use this on my car headlights? I need to read some more up on this. I have so much plastic that I didn't realize you could clean it with a specialize cleaner. Guess I need to get out more.
