Challenge Title: Patterned Paper die cut
Hostess: MISTI Monday
Keyword: MSP21
Date: May 6th, 2019
Hello all! Happy month of May!
This month's card was inspired by new dies I just got of cats and dogs. Now, I don't have any pets, but my mother and a lot of my friends have many and I've been seeing some really nice stamps and dies centered around these animals. I also need to use some of my patterned paper that I've been collecting over the past 18 years. I seem to have an over abundance of it.

I used one of the cat dies to make a card for my mom to send to her friend who lives in North Carolina. I picked out some summer-y patterned paper and used it for a border and also for the cat. I added a simple Thanking of you die cut and wanted to put a word strip that my cat could hang out on. I embossed the SENDING HUGS in white on pale pink card stock.
In order to get a perfectly cut sentiment strip, I used my Cut-Align from My Sweet Petunia. I was kind of nervous to use it for a little bit after getting it, but with some practice I'm very good at it now. What I like most about the Cut-Align are the pink measurement guides situated all over the ruler. With different sizes, from 1/8 inch and up, you can cut very close to your sentiment or further away. I wanted a very close edge, so I used the 1/8th inch measurement running parallel to the cutting guide while using the lines that run vertical to the slot to make sure my paper was straight and exactly where I wanted it.
Iliana created this ruler specifically for paper crafters with a slot that is so thin, it's exactly the width of your blade (precision cutting) and measurement guides (on both sides of the cutting guide) for even our most delicate cuts. There are also centering guides as well.
I've included an extra picture to show you the Cut-Align and also the different strips I cut with it. I had 2 1/8th inch strips left over and if you look at the card, you'll see I placed one along the edge of the green paper, separating it from the floral pattern. I think it was a nice touch to finish that plain edge.
Inside the card I will use the new Double Dip notes for my mom to write on. Her friend can then pass the card on to someone else needing a smile. The notes come sized for an A2 card and you get one Portrait direction and another Landscape. Great idea to match which way you open the card.
This month's challenge is for you to use some patterned paper, create your own with stamps if you don't have any, in a die cut. If you do not have any dies, just use patterned paper in your card somehow. I love the cat matching the border.
Thanks for joining us this week and I can't wait to see your cards!
MAY luck be with you this month! MISTI Monday

Working a J.O.B. all day really cuts in to my crafty time! Guess I need to continue making the cashola to pay for my habit. LOL.
OR...use what you have ;)
One of my sons used to be on a couple design teams, he left me a pile of supplies 9 years ago...and of course I have managed to add to it over the years and then having a birthday recently allowed him to purchase me a fun pad of paper from HL along with some purple baby clothespins that I have no idea what I will do with as I don't make 3D type of cards...
I do need to buy one of those finger cutters that MSP sells as my craft knife doesn't cut well...I'm wondering if they work left-handed? ;)
I am home today with the stamp room as my volunteer station, May is my month for donation cards to my local hospital. I got several positives from the nurses the other night, that was a head-sweller evening!

For those who don't know MSP is having a "bag" sale...the Studio Bag is on sale. This gives me a reason to order the finger knife that I've been wanting!!!!
Oh dear...I had never clicked on the video of the studio bag and just opened my email this morning...
My husband has already left for work...the sale says all month...hope they have a pink one left for me when I can get my husband to place the order for me!

Faye, I just received my Turquoise studio bag today and unfortunately it has a very musty odor. I'm leaving it open to air it out and see if the smell will go away, but I would be interested to know if others have had the same issue, or if after you receive yours, if you do. For $19.95, it's a really nice bag but not if I can't abide the smell. 😖

Happy Friday everyone...Faye I will check out the bag but waiting to hear what you say on the smell and answer to Stef's question first LOL.
Misti Monday...love this challenge and added it to my very very very long list of challenges...I'm catching up after Japan LOL.

Faye, I couldn't wait...I ended up loving the bag...ordered that, some magnets, a mini Misti, the corners......and it only cost me AUD$124.95....LOL...with my USD$50 voucher off. The postage is a killer and nearly as much as the items.
I'm happy though.

MISTI Monday won't probably have anything to say about the smell of the bag...that's something that would be best dealt with MSP direct...
My understanding is that MISTI Monday is not part of MSP, just a fun lady that loves the MISTI herself...like me!
Gave one to Hannah yesterday through her mother...I expect I will get a delightful thank you note in the mail sooner than later with a card she would make using the MISTI ;)

Just an update, I've reached out to MSP and am working with Illiana. I'm airing the bag out over the weekend to see if the smell will go away. If not, I'll either return it or swap for another. Illiana has been very nice to work with on this. I hope your purchases work out perfectly!

And one final clarification, the only reason I broached the issue I was having with the bag here was because you lovely ladies were discussing purchasing it, and I always feel that more knowledge is helpful. I realize this is a challenge blog and not a place to seek problem resolution, I was just trying to be helpful. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Stef...I'm glad you contacted MSP and I expect there will be a resolution! I haven't ordered my bag yet as my husband has been too busy with our social life and yard work today...
But...I'm sitting here with the page still open on my computer so that I remember to ask him to order me one...thankfully I don't live in Australia so postage won't be a killer...
Knife and bag...must remember...knife and bag!

I die cut the trio of birds with the stitched nested die cuts and used it as the focal point of the card. I will use the negative space on another card. I really like this new DSP and stamp set from the new annual catalog.
I used the MISTI to align my sentiment below the DSP. I did have to stamp it twice. Love this tool!
Mahalo Fairy Muchly for this months Challenge. I rarely ever use DSP ..seems I hoarder all the gorgeous ones !, So you have made the lovely’s come out and play!!
Happy Tuesday...look what’s just arrived....yay.

Hi all! I wanted to check in and look at all your cards! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and that you get some time on Monday, if you observe Memorial Day, to reflect on and remember those of our loved ones who have gone before us. Also to all those in the military that gave the highest sacrifice.
My May has been busy with my college aged daughters. Another end of the college semester and another one begun for my eldest and my middle daughter is in ITALY! Lots of running around!
I just saw the remark on the musty smelling studio bag. I'm hoping you are working that out with Iliana. (She's amazing!).
Off to look at cards!
