“Pressure tool” for even inking
I’ve seen Gina K andJennifer McGuire use a tool with the Misti or large stamps to get an even impressive. Where can I buy one or how can I make it?
|
I just bought this one: [url<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/11iqLqX81P4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>

Just 2 of many ways to make one: [url<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/11iqLqX81P4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>

neat - wonder if I could use my original Tim Holtz blending tool (a rectangle) with the felt? Will give it a try... Thank you for all the videos and ideas !!
|
Thank you , Vic. From the quick peek you get of the one jennifer McGuire uses, I wondered if one could be built from felt, a wood block (like from a wood-mounted stamp)and a door knob. There are some really pretty ones at Hobby Lobby :)
I just haven't gotten around to trying it. But now I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried just rolling a brayer over the closed positioner? |
I have friends who use a Breyer and it works. I have seen videos where they made their own with few supplies. I use my hands, but if I had arm or hand issues, I would look Into making one.

I ordered this eraser: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

OOh! The eraser is a good idea! The shape of it is likely kinder to the hand over time.
I remembered I had some felt pads in a recently cleared/organized junk drawer and applied them to the bottom of a wood block (from an old stamp). Works like a charm!! |
Thank you
You took the time to search for a tool I couldn’t find. I appreciate your kindness.

I saw someone on you tube that was using the top of a candle jar. Also saw someone who bought a dey erase eraser from the dollar store.
|
I had no idea such a thing existed. Thank you so much. I went and found one I liked on Etsy. https://www.etsy.com/listing/9791326...f=yr_purchases The reviews are good. Fingers crossed.

I ordered a dry board eraser. :) Cheap and works. Mine is in the shape of a mini iron for better grip. I think I saw Werner using one?
|
I don't use a Misti or any of the other platforms. My stamps are all wood mounted, so I use the old fashioned "L" shaped block with an acrylic plate. However, I have a friend who uses her platform constantly and does amazing work by rolling over the plate with a brayer. No new tool to buy and she keeps it handy all the time.

Brayer is a good idea! Wish I had thought of it!
|
I’m making one from an old wood block and a vintage crystal door knob I snagged for $8 on Facebook Marketplace!!

Some use a white board eraser. I use the back of any flat backed ink pad. This just needs to be anything you can put your hand on and give even pressure to. There are lots of things around the house and in our craft rooms that can do this, including large ink pads (if they are flat), large acrylic stamp blocks, the wooden blocks we have leftover from when we took stamps off of them...etc.
|
I have an original "Chuckie" tool coming like Gina's. I tried a dry eraser because I already had one, but it didn't work for me.

Meant to say but it’s fun that there are options out there. :)

Under Pressure
To my eye the stamping tool looks to be a cookie press with felt or some type of thick material on it.
I has several cookie presses that I purchased at a deep discount. The came with removable silicone covers with different raised prints on them. I used it as a large stamp! Now, I'll try out making it a "pressure" tool! |
I have arthritis in my hands and fingers that seems to be flaring a lot more often (thank you getting older!) So when i saw one of the YouTubers using a dry erase tool I decided to try it…picked one up at my local Dollar Tree and works like a charm.
I’ve since seen many different tools out now for getting even pressure with the Misti but my problem is grabbing something without my hand hurting. I like the dry eraser shape for that very reason. And it was super cheap! |
Here is one I designed!
My wife was complaining about sore hands, and since I have over 70 US patents she asked me to design her a tool to use on her MISTI. She loved it and told me I should sell it on Etsy. I did and now Jennifer McGuire also uses it! Here is a link.

Wow! Somehow I missed ever seeing one of these. I have severe rheumatoid arthritis and this would be a godsend. I need to get or make me one! Thanks to the OP for bringing this up!
|
I made my own sometime ago using a large unmounted wood blocks covered with felt, recycled and re-used.
So far I have three of them and they work great for adding pressure when stamping and to glued or adhesive sealed items. |
I did the same - felt on a block (previous wood-mounted stamp).
It works great! |

I know a lot of people who have made them, But I bought mine. I use it on my Misti (which I also love!).
|
Yet another gimmick to make money. I use my rubber brayer and it works just fine.
|
I bought the air hockey hand things from Amazon. I got 2 for about $7. They work just fine. I like the handles on them as well.
