I have not seen it, but another site I frequent no one liked it. But those people also didn't like his other films (Signs, The Village).

If it is anything like Signs or The Village, I'll probably like it. I don't know if we'll go see it though because DH doesn't seem interested and I'm not sure about my movie-going friends yet.

I saw it the other day with my DH -- we both liked it. It has some suspense, but it's really more of a story than any of his other movies. M. Night Shyamalan has a much bigger role in this movie than any of his previous movies and he's good! DH and I sat and listened to the people in front of us and behind us complaining after the movie was over . . . . they didn't like it but I think it was because they were expecting something more intense like the Sixth Sense and it's not. It's a real people story with a moral. Go see it but be sure to be open-minded!

That is how people were around us when we saw The Village. I loved The Village. I think the problem people are having is they are expecting all of his movies to be like Sixth Sense. Like you said you have to be open minded. I enjoy his story lines. I plan on seeing this Saturday. I can't wait.

I'm pretty excited about seeing this too. I actually bought 'the bedtime story book' at Barnes and Noble the other day, and even DD liked the story (not that I'm taking her, she's only 5, and I think that it might be a little much for her to 'see'.)
I loved The Village, mainly FOR the storyline. I was hoping his next endeavor would be along that lines, glad to hear that it is.

My husband and I saw this last Saturday and we *really* liked it.

We both thought the critic's attacks on this film were unwarranted. It's got suspense and humor and the actors were well cast. It's not like any of his other movies... this is a story so it moves at a slower pace - which we really appreciated after the latest round of fast-action type movies we've been seeing.

If you're familiar with Miyazaki films (Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service - to name a few), this story really reminded us of something he would do in animation. It's a lovely story.

I hope when you see this film you'll let us know what you thought!!

Hmm...I love other movies of his, but had heard this one was strange. My DH and I LOVE The Village. We have watched it over and over. If it's anything like that, then I'll definitely see it.

YAY! I'm glad to get some feedback from those that have seen it. I really want to see it while it's at the theater, just have to find someone that will go with me

I've seen Signs and Sixth Sense.....maybe I need to go rent The Village now.

I love that M. Night is in all of his movies....it's like finding Where's Waldo

ROFLOL!! Well in this one it's pretty darned easy -- he has a huge role.
So all the chatter about The Village makes me want to see it again -- I really liked that one too.

I LOVED signs and the sixth sense...the village dissappointed me, because I expected scary. Once I watched it again, I loved it, and realized it was more of a "lesson" movie, rather than scary. I am very excited about Lady in the Water...my SO and I are going tonight!

Thumbs up Thumbs up!

DH and I also saw this last night. It was much different than the other films of his. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it. M. Night is fabulous in the movie and I love Bryce Dallas Howard... so mysterious, she is. Paul Giamati is an endearing character and when the story of his life is revealed, it makes you love him even more. I recommend it.. but like it was said in previous threads... keep an open mind. Enjoy!

My husband and I really liked it also. My husband is not a big fan of M. Night but he said he really liked this one. The story line was much better than the Village. We give it two thumbs up.

I am so glad I read all of these comments as our local paper gave it a D and that kind of scared me into not seeing it. I should never listen to what "they" say!!! I am going to see it for sure now!

-Signs was one of my favorite movies. I have so many thoughts about the meaning of it plus Joaquin Phoenix just really does it for me!!!
-The Village was so much different than what I thought it would be but the story made sense and I thought the actors were great.
-The Sixth Sense was wonderful! I totally did not "get it" until the end but then again I miss most of the clues in LOST too!

No one has mentioned Unbreakable. Did anyone see it? I liked it but since the Sixth Sense was so hard to follow I think most people were expecting something different. I still think it is worth seeing.

Does Lady in the Water have a good ending (not necessarily happy, but at least satisfying)?

I've seen Unbreakable as well as the others. DH and I love M. Night's movies and his emphasis on family or story with the rest as fun window dressing.

DH and I haven't been to the movies since Pirates came out. I doubt I'll get to see Lady in the theatre at this rate, but I'll enjoy renting it.

Oh my gosh Jennifer is in the movie forum. I almost fell out of my chair,

I keep going back and forth on this movie. We loved Sixth Sense and we were finally conviced to watch The Village. I thought it was going to be scary because of the commercials.. but it wasn't ( I don't do scary). I think that is what I worry about with Lady in the Water. I didn't know that he directed Unbreakable!! Haven't seen that one yet but it is on the Netflix list.

My husband and I both really enjoyed it as well. It's actually somewhat different from his other movies, and it's nice to see he's not getting sucked into to trying to recreate the Sixth Sense over and over. But I've liked all his films. Well, Unbreakable didn't do it as much for me, but that's just me.

The comparison to Miyazaki films is a great one, I never would have thought of it, but wow what a great comparison!

I LOVE ALL of his movies. Lady in the water is the only i havent seen ( I also liked unbreakable)
i love his movies because everything " happens for a reason " or is connected...
Lady is actually based on a children's book he wrote for his kids.... I think most of them if i remember correctly are, he was on the View discussing it a few weeks back
also
Bruce willis was in signs and unbreakable
Joaquin pheonix was in signs and the village
then the girl - was the blind girl in village and then lady in the water
I forget her first name but she is Ron howards( happy days, opie from andy griffith) daughter
