I loved the Mix-Ability challenge on Friday where Tiffany asked us to mix a color medium with an acrylic medium or glue. I mixed Dylusions with matt medium and had a blast.
It got me thinking about other ways to use ink sprays, aside from spraying paper and using them with stencils - I love to make the most of my supplies. I wrote a blog post listing 4 more ways:
Watercolor wash
Ink splattering
Compressed air background
Watercoloring images
But I'm sure there's loads of other cool ways to use them. I'd love to know what other ways you use ink sprays?
I love the look I get from mixing spray mists/inks with gesso to color it in such a variety of colors. It's a great way to use up those mists that are normally just sitting there.

Great idea - that's next on my list to try. I bet it creates a soft pastel effect.

Thanks Lynn!...always nice to have alternatives to do similar things!
Another approach I use is to test out colors and design combinations on my paper with a variety of mists and stencils and continue building layers using the inky back side of stencils too. Then cover with gesso. In a few moments the sprays will bleed through the gesso in interesting patterns. I hear one can alter this technique by using acrylic paint instead of gesso...but I haven't had a chance to try that one yet.
I sprayed a page all over with golden-white spray (homemade) and then sponged regular dye ink on top thru a stencil. I had seen it demonstrated on Youtube and thought to myself, yeah right. They were right and I was wrong. The leaves took on the coolest holographic look!
I have used the sprays to dye ribbon. However, if the ribbon is polyester, the results are unpredictable. My purple ribbon came out a dull green. Test first!

Does anyone know if the Dylusions sprays are alcohol based? I saw a technique that called for alcohol inks and I don't want to start a new ink collection. Thanks!

Dylusions sprays are water based. Most "regular" sprays are water based, such as Glimmer Mist, Mister Hueys, Dylusions, Perfect Pearls Spray, and Distress Spray Stains.
The only alcohol inks that I know of are Copic markers and their refills, and the Ranger alcohol inks that come in the little refill bottles.
